Not far from the city you can escape the hustel and bustle of Addis and visit Menelik's Palace which is still intact. Also there is a small museum of Royal Attire.

The museum on site was interesting with charming English speaking guide. The guide in Palace area did not speak any English but a local translated for me. Seems to be falling apart despite recent refurbishment but definitely worth a visit when on Entoto

Menelik palace sits on the hill above Addis at about 3,000 metres altitude. Good place to visit if you have 90 minutes available, see some of the history of a historic country

Menelik palace is located at the top of Entoto Hill, behind the Orthodox Church. It was home to the first King, who oversaw the development of Addis Ababa and wanted a high view of his domain. The palace is simple and unimposing. No turrets or...More

when you hear about Empopors, you tend to imagine big palaces full of rich decoration and fancy furniture. this place is so simple and basic that we had difficulty imagining that it was a real palace

Interesting look into the very influential past which shaped Ethiopia. It's a must see. There is little grand about the place but it does depict the little there was in ancient times. It does require a good guide to tell the history and relate it...More
