The castle was a bit disappointing, they only had a few rooms open with some random stuff inside, e.g. old porcelain plates Half of the museum was closed when I was there. It seemed they were shooting a tv show there, with a few people...More

This is a beautiful castle. Of 100+ countries I've visited, this is among the top 10. Most tours budgeted for 1.5 to 2 hours. that's not enough. The castle museum is one way in, one way out, same way, so in crowded days or peak...More

This is a 'must-see' if you are in Vilnius. It's not far outside the city - you can take tours there or drive a rental car very easily. It only takes a few hours to get there and back as well as see the lovely...More

The castle is beautiful on the approach and the views across the lake are a hit for anyone who wants that amazing “instagram” pic. Beyond that there is little to see inside and the artefacts don’t give you much context to the history of the...More

Worth a trip and castle is interesting if a bit Disneyfied. The restoration in parts is a bit too perfect. Having said that it is a lovely area being picturesque and photogenic.

We took the Trakai Tour with guide from Vilnius. The cost was 35 Euros. Very good female guide with a lot of spirit and knowledge. Trakai Town was special with many old wooden houses. The castle had a great location on the lake, but was...More

Original construction began in the 14th century - reconstructed in the mid-20th to 15th century appearance. Attractive, but quite crowded - especially the interior spaces. Lots of wooden steps, so not handicap-accessible. Not much in the way of interpretation, and that in Lithuanian. Without a...More

We got the bus there and the train back, it’s only 30 minutes and a fare of 3 Euro each way. It is a half hour walk from the bus station to the castle or there is a little tourist train. It is a lovely...More

I wouldn't wait for Sunset in trakai. It's much nicer during the day where you can enjoy the castle as well as paddle boarding or a boat ride on the lake around the castle which is highly recommended. Anyway the sun doesn't... More
