I do like cats but this is not really anything special. There is a cat placed on top of the building and that's about it.....if you were walking down the street near the building you should definitely look-up to see it but dont go out of your way to find it.
A building in the old town Riga with an interesting history :) one of the few things to see in old town.
The building, from early 1900s, is regarded as an example of Riga's Art Nouveau architecture. It was owned by a wealthy Latvian trader, who, out of resentment at the local guild for not admitting him, placed the expressive cat figures on the roof of his building.
Viewing the original cat is not as big an event as the story behind it and the cat is eponymous with the city. Love the story... love the cat
Interesting history as to how it came to be....worth the walk by and hearing the history. I?t's on the free walking tour and was on the Art Nouveau tour as well.
