The lake is a nice place to stop. There are plenty of photo opportunities and places to walk. For the active you can hike up the many hills surrounding the lake and for those looking for a slightly less challenging walk there are a number...More
The lake is very nice, but I saw lots of trash thrown by the people who visit, and it seemed to be old, so probably nobody is taking care of the shores.
Lots of souvenir stalls where you can buy local farmer products.
We reached the lake at around 4:30 PM. It was fairly busy and not too remarkable. We spent around 20 minutes walking around, took a few photographs and we left the area. It is worth a stop, but do not think it is worth coming...More
We were on a motorcycle trip, coming from the south, and as we approached things became very crowded and touristy. Nevertheless the view was unbeatable!!! Both the view of the lake and the view of the road and surrounding. The view on the way uphill...More
One of the places worth visiting since it is on Transfagarasan highway but the fact that many points of sale of local products were opened, its beauty was diminished, producing an overcrowding of people and cars.

Went to Balea Cascada and took the cable car to Balea Lac because the Transfagarasan Road was not yet opened. The building of the Cable Car station is a shame. Dirty in the extreme, with pieces of old furniture spread over more like in a...More

Haven't got vertigo so can't say how bad yours would be but we drove from the south end of the transfagarasan road so when we did drive up the steeper roads to the lake at the top we were on the right which was away from the side where the drop was so to speak. At the lake vertigo is no issue it is actually quite flat up there and for large parts of the drive you only see trees. It is only a small part of the whole journey where you are driving on open roads where you can see over the edge. Hope this helps.
