One of the most popular attractions in Otavalo is La Cascada de Peguche, a natural waterfall located about 3km from the city center. Given its popularity, I decided to check it out early in the morning at about 8AM. According to Google Maps, Peguche was...More
This was a great way to spend a few hours away from the bustle of town. It was a very pleasant walk to the viewing area of the falls and there were very few people around. We left the viewing area and walked to the...More
An easy walk through the cobbled walkways (inclines) through the woods to get to a bridge across the base of the falls for good photos. An even better view near the top of the falls is slightly trickier to get to up some steep soil...More
Peguche Falls is a logical side-trip from Otavalo. Go to the market first, then get back to nature with a short walk in the woods to these lovely falls. It was not too crowded the day we were there. I enjoyed simply sitting and listening...More

I believe we took a cab to the tiny village near the waterfall, and then walked back (less than $10 taxi, and 45 min or so walk). We took the cab because we were not all that adventuresome, and did not know which way to go... But from the waterfall you can see the town, so it was less intimidating... also it was not easy to find a cab back. The walk back was easy, but not all that interesting.
