My wife is fascinated by Ancient Spartan history, so this site was a must-visit. It definitely met our expectations and the price of admission (FREE!) was perfect. Loved seeing the Acropolis and Agora as well as the old temple site, but being able to walk...More

Although you could say it's not much to see, comparing to Mystras, le's not remember it's history: it is dated around 2000 years BC. It is still impressive to think Leonidas walked the same streets we roam now.

The place is breathtaking, thinking that you walk and sit in the same place as figures like Leonidas, Pafsanias and Nikias. This is the place of heroes that defended the west, and ensured the development of the western civilization. Note: Keep in mind that most...More

Sparta plaid a central role in ancient Greek history. I expected that I will find something which reflects that fact. But basically there was almost nothing. Very hard to find the site, there are no signs in the city, like somebody would try to hide...More

First, it was very difficult for us to find the site since it is not correctly situated on Google Maps. Secondly, they are supposed to close the site at 4 pm, as it is written everywhere. When we got to the exit at 3:57 (we...More

This was great to see and we did a guided walking tour. The view was fantastic and the walk was not too bad. The pantheon itself was good but not awesome.

The remains of the ancient Spartan acropolis and amphitheatre are free to walk around and are signposted reasonably well from the town - the entrance is up a road that runs alongside the sports stadium. We spent about 45mins here on a Sunday so it...More
