Stunning place, great trip up on the cable car, a little pricey but worth the trip. The toboggan run is a giggle.

Great views of Funchal from the very top if you have the stamina to climb all the stairs! Certainly worth it.

If you ride the cable car from the old town up into the mountains it is well worth stopping off at this beautiful church. Once you alight the cable car there is still a little way to go to reach this including quite a few...More

Worth the rather oppressive 15 minute cable car journey to escape the heat of Funchal for an hour or so to see this lovely church

Very nice building on a beautiful site. This is the resting place of the last Hungarian King Charles IV. It was a bit sad to see there is no any information about him to let the visitors to know that. - Nagyon szép épület gyönyörű...More

What a beautiful church. It is well kept. The inside is just too beautiful. You can light a candle and say a prayer. It’s so peaceful. It was busy.

The Church is what made the visit of Monte worth for us. It is beautifully restored, inside as well as outside. It is however to note that it is at the top of.... 177 steps! And it is at its foot that courageous people take...More

Some external work was being done when we visited - it'll be really lovely when completed. Lovely views over Funchal from the front and of the toboggan run.

Well worth a visit but being painted and repairs being done at the moment so shrouded in netting and scaffolding. You can still access the church though.

It is really a very short walk. You will make it without problem. But there are some stairs in the end. To get back you maybe bought a return ticket so you go back to the cable station, or you can take the bus. If you like... More

I believe that the church opens early and each time I have been up to Monte it has been open, even if there are services on. The bell towers and upper floor are open via a door which does not intrude should a service be on... More
