There isn't many places to visit for free in Amsterdam but this is one of them. Located right next to Centraal Station, this is a beautiful, peaceful church. Definitely worth a visit as most other churches in the city charge an entrance fee for visitors!

A wonderful old church near the train station. Kind of shoved in between some other buildings on the same block, definitely not a stand alone. It was closed when I got there and I thought that I was just going to get a chance to...More

The church is near the train station. I walked past it four days in a row about it was never open. The building is pretty cool looked. If you stay at the DoubleTree you can also see it from your room.

St. Nicholas is right across the canal from Central Station so its easy to find and is beautiful. It wont take you long to walk through - maybe 30-45 minutes, but as long as you have a little extra time, I would recommend it.

The paintings (by Jan Dunselman) in this church were remarkable. The scultures (by Elisee van den Bossche) were breathtaking. A must see if you love to be mezmerised by architecture from the late 1800's. It is free to visit, but, please donate a little.

The largest Catholic church in Amsterdam, which is currently operating. Relatively new from the end of the 19th century, it is located near the railway station.

St. Nicholas Basilica is across from the Centraal Station in Amsterdam. It is only a block from our hotel, Mauro Mansion. It is an ornate building and is very beautiful.

Attended mass at the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, located in the Old Centre area of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The mass was like the “high masses” I attended growing up including choir responses and incensing the altar. While the priests spoke in their native tongue, a paper...More

Very large church. Free to enter. The alter, monuments and stained glass windows are exciting to admire. The windows and dome let in a large amount of light. It is a sight to behold downtown close to the Central Railway Station and dwarfs many of...More
