Staying in Santa Margherita is less expensive than staying in Portofino. It is an easy paced town, with lots to see along the sea shore, and a pleasant market if you follow the signs to the centro storico. Make the walk to Portofino, and see...More

There are a number of towns along the coast, this town is low key, tranquil, far fewer large tour groups. There are small shops, cafes, restaurants that are reasonably priced. There is a tourist ticket office on the promenade they sells bus and train ticket....More

Stayed 9 nights and got the train to portofino, Camogli, Portovenere, genoa and Cinque Terre. Loved all those places. Easy to get to. SML itself is beautiful but wouldn't want to be there in high season. Wasn't that impressed with the restaurants though as food...More

It’s just a gorgeous little town that along the Italian coast line. We just stayed here for one night but I wish we would’ve stayed longer. So picturesque, it looks like it’s from a movie. Beautiful beautiful beautiful

We stayed here, like many, as the Portofino hotels were too expensive. It's not cheap here either! The waterfront area, some stone beach and mainly harbour, is extensive and nice to walk along, the only downside being that it is completely bordered by the very...More

Just a beautiful village. Much nicer than Portofino and half the price. There are many restaurants and bars to chose from. I kept going back to the Miami bar and the restaurant Da Gennaro. The beach has pebbles and no sand. The water is crystal...More
