About
The Maison Carree in Nimes is the only Roman ancient temple completely preserved. The inspiration for the design of the Maison Carree came from the temples of Apollo and Mars Ultor in Rome. Inside, you will discover a 23 minutes film "Nemausus, the...more

This building has had many uses over the centuries. It is almost unfathomable that the massive structure was built so long ago, and that it remains standing to this day. Though amazing to behold in size, my eye would prefer a building with a more...More

Beautiful temple, looks great from the square. Inside has been stripped and now shows a video about the history of Nimes in the Roman era. Part of the Nimes ticket, not sure it’s worth individual entry fee.

A beautifully preserved Roman temple. Imagine that this was built then and survived for 2K years. It’s impressive to walk around, the shoe inside is mostly hype, save your money.

We visited Maison du carree as it was included in our arena ticket. The building is beautiful and we didn’t realise we were going to be watching a film which really succinctly galloped through a few centuries of Roman history. Didn’t get to study a...More

This building is one of the oldest Roman temples still in existence and for that reason alone is worth a visit.

Standing in splendid isolation as Nimes had the good sense to demolish buildings around it years ago to restore it to what would have been, in the prime position. It is not a large building so easily and quickly viewed from every angle. Internally from...More

Maison Carree is a beautiful Roman temple, but just be aware that it is empty of any Roman era material after you go inside. Instead you will see an interesting short film about how the local Celts allied themselves with the Romans, and swiftly became...More

Loved it! Such beautiful stonework. I can't believe it has survived so well over the centuries. There is nothing inside, unless the film is running (the projector was broken on the day we visited) so just stand back and gaze in wonder!

A outstanding example of an Augustan temple. Unfortunately nothing has survived internally, instead it has been turned into a cinema where a film is shown, with English subtitles, of the history of Nimes. Although there are some inaccuracies (to a nerd like me) this does...More
