I'm a regular visitor to the ancient city. It is very popular with visitors no doubt due to it's listing as a world heritage site 22 years ago by UNESCO. So I avoid the crowds and instead walk the outer walls which are very enjoyable.

What a place. So, huge, so old, so much history, so impressive a site, etc. Such a lovely atmosphere, and it can take a whole day to over it properly. Entrance into part of it is free and then there are self guided tours into...More

The guide books do not do this place justice. A bit of a climb but worth every step! If you can, do the walking tour from the tourist information office, a really good experience. Yes it is a bit touristy but not really a surprise...More

If in the region then this probably shouldn’t be missed. Can be quite crowded and very tourist-oriented. However, the narrow lanes in the city are great for ambling around and quite atmospheric. Plenty of food outlets as well as the typical tourist souvenir shops. Some...More

I absolutely loved this medieval city within the old walls. This is a stunning location with some great restaurants and shops containing all sorts of sweets and tourist souvenirs from high end to the more basic souvenirs. There is the odd tourist trap eating place...More

Passed Carcassone quite some years on the highway, and put it on the Bucket list. Saw it in a rush a couple of years back and was now back to take it all in. It leave one deeply impressed.

I was a little sceptical about a visit here, but I was so wrong...there is much to learn...buy your tickets at the tourist office..it will save you queuing when you get there. As you go in there is a film presentation...do watch it as you...More

We probably didn't spend enough time exploring the fortified city as it was really windy and cold. What we did see though was very impressive and we would definitely recommend it.

As we walked towards the fortified city it’s towers and turrets were overwhelming. We had a local guide during our tour. The cobblestone walkways along the walls had some spots for picture taking, but we had to keep walking to hear the guide. There were...More
