Although a nice area, I am not sure what makes this area so special compared to other areas with bars and restaurants, except for the nearby university with accompanying student social life. With Hillhead subway station very nearby, logistics to and from are easy.
We wandered through the West End two days in a row. On both days we enjoyed the myriad students in the shops, restaurants, and on the streets. It have the place a vibrant feel. Once we wanted off the main streets, a bit further west,...More
If you like the look of unique architecture then it is worth doing a 'photo walk' of the West End. I spent a few hours walking and taking photos of the buildings and then stopping in to have coffee at some unique places. It is...More
We loved all of Glasgow, but the West End was our favorite part. This would be a good area of the city to stay in during a visit because there are a lot of interesting places to visit - the Kelvingrove Museum, The Hunterian Museum,...More

Hi, parking is not easy around the Botanic Gardens. You can park in Byres Road, if you are lucky enough to find a space. Some of the streets off Byres Road have parking meters which sometimes are quiet and very busy at other times.
Waitrose at the top of Byres Road, near Botanic Gardens has a parking area above the shop. Normally you can get parked there but only for a limited time. Not sure how long, perhaps an hour or two. The lift from the carpark takes you down into the shop, you can then get out of the shop into Byres Road.
In general, I can usually find a suitabke space but sometimes hou have to drive around to get one. However, Botanic Gardens and Byres Road are worth the trouble of parking.
