This is a true gem of Sri Lanka. I'm hesitant to post this because I dont want it to become over busy like Yala, but its WELLLL worth a several day visit, even in liu of Yala.

Wilpattu sits a little bit off the regular organised tour circuit, positioned slightly north of the central west coast of the country. It's also Sri Lanka's largest national park. These two factors mean that you'll experience less safari traffic than in Yala or even Kaudulla....More

Sorry , I was referring to Yala National Park not Willpattu, it will be opened unless severe weather conditions affect water levels for animals..... pl ignore my previous answer
