Giving only three stars has everything to do with the repairs and the high tourism account for a average monastary. True! This is an amazing place. But sadly the place has been somewhat too well restored. It does feel like a proper attraction with the...More

Definitely worth a visit. Easy drive (with a driver) from Dilijan (pay the driver to wait). Several interesting small orthodox churches complemented by a small bakery. Have the Turkish coffee and a gatta (one will do two people).

but monastery is so so. Important as burial site for Bagrutini kings if you are into Armenian history. More significant has been the restoration funded by Catholics and Muslims. Long may such cooperation continue.

Very nice church. It's not so far from Dilijan. The part of road is through the forest, however it's in a good condition.

This monastery is similar to many others in the country. It is beautiful and at a good location. But there are others that are more spectacular than this. Then again, if you are in the area, you might as well go and have a look.

This is one of my favourite monasteries in Armenia! And the hike that starts from the monastery is GREAT. Beautiful views, easy to follow and so refreshing.

Mandy: don't worry a bit about your knees, the monastery is directly on the road. Hardly any stairs at all. Tour buses were there, though I don't know if they were private or public transportation from town. Best bet is... More
