About the operator
- flatbed1300A lovely day in CalicutReally interesting, informative and enjoyable tour. We combined it with the punting tour of the mangroves at the Kandalundi bird sanctuary. Calming after the heat and bustle of Calicut. Easy to combine if you have a car and driver. Try and start the walking tour of Calicut as early as possible due to the heat.
- Kelvin L00Don't do itTerrible experience after booking a mangrove tour for 2 using this TripAdvisor site almost 24hrs in advance! Despite information about the tour saying 'reserve now & pay later' I was required to provide credit card details to complete the booking and the payment was subsequently drawn from my linked account. I subsequently received an email from TripAdvisor confirming the booking but advising it was pending confirmation by the operator - which may take up to 3 days! There was no indication of this potential delay in the tour information - which may take up to 3 days! We duly arrived at the designated meeting point in Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary next morning in the hope that the tour would be delivered, only to be told by staff and other operators that they had NEVER heard of this tour operator! No-one answered the contact number for inquiries to the supposed operator that were provided in the TripAdvisor booking confirmation despite repeated calls over 30 minutes, including by concerned officials from the Sanctuary. The number came up as belonging to Jays Inn, not Tyndis as advertised. It seems this tour page may be a scam. Ultimately we took a great tour with another operator for a fraction of the price we had paid for the boat tour that was NEVER DELIVERED!
- Safari5101418596400Best tripAmazing planner Good experience Customised the trip according to requirements Well mannered drivers Best resorts with in budget
- deepakjois00Well worth it!The experience was wonderful. It exceeded all our expectations. Our guide Sreekanth was so knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic. We discovered places we wouldn't even have known about if we walked around on our own - a halwa making kitchen, a coconut oil making facility etc!
- 392tanushreem00Insight into the stories that make CalicutThis was not like a normal tour, it was the story of a city that you'll never experience or read about on Wikipedia. The storyteller Sreekant took me through the streets of Calicut, revealing the stories that made up the streets and buildings in a way that made everything come alive. The meandering nature of the walk felt like I was back in time and here in 2023 at the same time. He answered all my questions, introduced us to local vendors. It amazed me at how ancient the international trade in Calicut is and how old and instrinsic the multicultural harmony is to its identity. I am so glad I found this company and I look forward to other experiences in the future.
- EmmaJoly7800Wonderful one week trip in KeralaI had a wonderful one week trip to the best places in Kerala! Lux hotels, great food, marvelous landscapes, and an exceptionnal driver!! I warmly recommand Tyndis and Biju as a driver.
- johndX1793MZ00The best planner hands downNaveen was a dream to work with. He was responsive, proactive and planned the trip to perfection. He not only allowed changes but encouraged it so that we get the best experience for me and my fiance. All the hotels were top class and every stay was a picture perfect. Most of all, the staff and contractors he hired were very polite and courteous. Our driver Umesh is probably the highlight of the trip. He made it so special with his warm personality. He made extra effort to ensure we are taken care of EVERYWHERE we went. We have made a friend for life. I still text him even after 6 months. He's a great man. Naveen was the best thing that happened to us when my fiance and I were trying to spend some quality time together before we tie the knot. Now we are happily married and have a lot of great memories from our 7 day trip that Naveen planned to perfection. Thank you Naveen. I was sceptic when I first booked the trip reading the reviews thinking those are fake and all as I was flying in from Washington DC. But all the positive reviews are actually true. He is truly the best. I am so thankful for the time you spent in planning our trip. I'll be using your services again and again coz my wife wants us to make a trip to Kerala for our anniversary. I highly recommend Naveen and his company. Ask for Umesh as your driver if you wanna make your trip memorable. Make sure you ask him to play his music in the drive. He loves classical music and it really goes well with the trip in his gods own country Kerala. Cheers
- Scorpio1500A whistle stop tour of Calicut history, culture and foodI m so glad we took this tour on our first visit Calicut. Our storyteller - Rajeesh - was an energetic and passionate local with nuanced knowledge of the city nooks and corners. Well versed in the history and culture of the city, he ran the tour at a relaxed but efficient pace. We spent good time at the key temples, churches, mosques in the different quarters of the city. He also gave us a superb insight into the most famous food of the city - halwa, chips, biryani, pickles etc. He took us into the bylines where these things are actually made - he knew the owners of these paces and took us deep inside the kitchens to see, for instance how is the famous Kozhikoden halwa made. For our next trip, I ll definitely sign up for some of their other tours! Keep it up Team Tyndis!
- OutinOttawa00Beware of scamI was not provided with a meet up time or a contact number. Basically, this us a scam. They took my money and offered no service.
- Nuvena00A must-visit if you are in CalicutExperiencing these mangroves was incredible, to say the least. The way the community is intertwined with sustainable practices over decades is nothing short of a miracle. And hearing first-hand stories of the planting and preserving of the mangroves is just a cherry on top. Ayyappan sir is a treasure trove of stories that will make it feel like you are in the documentary when it’s being shot! Thanks Naveen, Maria, and Neha and hats off to all the storytellers of Tyndis for helping us connect with the heritage of the Malabar region. No amount of pictures and videos can do justice to this place - so don’t Google, just go!
- crizt_maria00Overwhelming ExperienceGreat hosting..It was a very good experience.. Such a calm and peaceful resort.. We could work and enjoy at the same time.. And too good hospitality and friendly staff.. Thank you so much ... Loved it ❤️
- Passport4363616953300Munnar - The Tall Trees ResortA very pleasent and memorable experience. Tyndis performed all expectations professionally, right through booking a 3 day vacation for our large family group of over 25 members, multiple changes to plan, customisation, special requests, assistance on day of check-in and follow up during our stay.
- Sahanaspbhat00Best workation trip involving scenic beauty ,beaches, river views motivated for the maximum productivity and joyMe and my husband had a wonderful experience with Kerala workation package. Naveen was very kind and based on the requirements was able to quickly suggest the best places and even kept in touch with us throughout to ensure the best experience. started our trip with: 1) A hidden gem in the midst of marari arakal heritage , walkable distance from the beach is a must visit once in a life time. Tasty Indian cuisines, authentic heritage kerala food and hospitality from the host Abi Arakal , wifi speed was good and then 2) we moved to a beach front place in neela backwaters allepy though it was raining we had an amazing view from the room and wifi speed was good and never had power issues. 3) We ended the workation in kumarakom mango Kerala homes with moments to cherish for with house boat cruise, river view room stay and authentic Kerala home food. it was a week long workation trip getting away from the hum drum of the city life and best place for IT people irrespective of positions as the wifi speed everywhere was very good! Definitely we will visit soon and thanks so much for hosting us and suggesting these amazing places. I suggest this to everyone who is looking for a workation, intimate time with family/significant other guys just trust and go ahead with the tyndis, tree monk workation!! they will plan the best deal for you .🎉🤞
- nimbuuz00The best workation experience arranged by TyndisAfter 2 years of “home arrest”, we wanted to just get out and get lost in nature, yet, ensuring that we are safe and not exposed to the risk of Covid. We opted for a workation at Lake Song resort, Kumarakom. The workation was arranged by Mr. Naveen Mathew from Tyndis Workations. This was the best workation I ever had. No internet issue, No room service related issue, nothing. Everything went super smooth, as promised. Mr. Naveen from Tyndis and Mr. Arun from the resort even went the extra mile during several occassions to ensure that our stay at the resort and the workation experience was hassle free. I was accompanied by my wife, and my entire family. Needless to say, all of us had the best time eating, chilling by the pool, getting into a Shikara boat ride on the lake, getting rejuvenating massages, kayaking our way through the backwaters, sitting in the middle of nature and relaxing + working, and clicking a zillion pictures. If you are looking for a relaxed, smooth workation - service by Tyndis Workation is definitely recommended!!
- BhaskarM2100Great antique place, well thoughtThis place is very well constructed. It has so many details and is decorated with antique style, you will get some good European feel with all the great wood work. The bathrooms have glass ceilings and hot water. It has some fountain, very good campfire area and sorrounding lights. The internet is pretty good. I got 22mbps around the area with decent mobility. A very nice place for writers, employees planning wfh and for couples. You have a very nice view of chembra peak as well

I experienced the Theyyam tour arranged by Tyndis and it was overwhelming for me!
This is going to be a long one…yes, I have a lot to tell about Theyyam!!! I heard this word for the first time when I was travelling in South India from Hampi to Mangalore last year. Mr Akhil, one of my friends, who was also a photographer mentioned about it. I’ll be ever grateful to him for that!
Theyyam is a ritualistic dancing art form, performed sacredly in the groves and temple shrines in northern parts of the state of Kerala in India! Some rituals involve blood sacrifices!!!!! Well, it’s a sight one must experience – words are just insufficient!
I was introduced to Theyyam sometime in June by Akhil. I soon started researching about it and planned for my visit to Theyyam in Kannur. The Theyyam season falls between the periods of late October to early June. During the Theyyam season, small temples and shrines across the northern regions of Kerala host hundreds of Theyyam dance performances.
I searched for the best options to explore the Theyyam tour in Kerala. I came across Tyndis Theyyam tours through their website. I contacted them and came to know about the exclusive Theyyam tour they provide. I needed to explore as much Theyyam as possible - this was my main request to them. Tyndis team customized their existing package according to my needs and came up with a 2N/3D which had 9 different theyyam including all the day and night ones with fire dance and rare theyyam festivals called the ‘Perumkaliyattam’ which happen only once in every 12 years. Well, I could just say that I was lucky enough to find Tyndis website online!
If you are a traveler who is looking to experience a theyyam , they also have a short Theyyam storytelling tour of just 2 -3 hours experience. However, my requirement was different.
I had free time during November – Tyndis team scheduled my tour according to my dates and arranged the best possible Theyyam experience. Theyyam is seasonal as well as strictly scheduled. So, you must plan your visit according to the best available Theyyam festivals. Thanks to Tyndis and storyteller Sidharth for this effort! Tyndis team was extremely careful in organizing the entire tour – They picked me up from the Kannur International Airport on my arrival. My accommodation was arranged near a beach in a beautiful beach resort in Kannur. They served absolutely delicious malabar food!! Also, the taxi and the proper arrangements for shooting and experiencing each Theyyam was really professional. Tyndis had curated this Theyyam tour in a way that I could experience the rituals connected with the Theyyam , preparation of the artist, face painting called Mukhathezhuthu, interaction with Theyyam artists - altogether this experience had stories as well as local community engagement .Tyndis storyteller Sidharth is a person I cannot miss to mention. He assisted me throughout this Theyyam tour. He explained about each Theyyam and Theyyam festivals to me. I really cannot miss to mention the moment when Sidharth introduced me to Mr. Mohanan - the head of the Theyyam artists. It was wonderful to talk to Mohanan who have been dancing as the divine god for the past 45 years!! Though he talked in Malayalam, Sidharth translated each part to me in English. He even had tender coconuts arranged for me during the day time. Much recommended service by Tyndis!!
Though Theyyam performances happen at all times of day, be sure to catch one or two in the late night or early morning. That’s when the fire comes out! Theyyam attains heavenly feel with lamps, attires and the music. Traditional instruments such as the Chenda and Elathalam are used to produce ambient music during Theyyam performance.
As mentioned, Tyndis had arranged for my stay in a beautiful place called Thottada in Kannur district, near to a beach. I was picked up from my beach resort at 21:00 by Sidharth in a sedan car, and dropped off at 12:00 the next day. It was a bit hectic schedule, but I could really enjoy the essence of the Theyyam festival. During the break times in the night, I slept in the car, though I was offered a space in a household near the temple. The people were so welcoming!! There were curious kids smiling at me, wondering where I came from!
In this part of Kerala, the young and old alike cluster around for Theyyam festivals. For the night’s ritual, frenzied drummers begin beating a tattoo in perfect synchronicity. Young priests light palm frond torches, swishing embers off into the air. Older priests in crisp white lungi, south Indian sarongs, stand in front of a small temple, staring sternly. Suddenly, the collective breath released, and a sense of awe filled the void. The god arrived. The Theyyam began!!! That night, at that ungodly hour, I was standing amidst the crowd, watching the divine dance of the Kutty Theyyam, somewhere in a village shrine in Kannur! Sidharth explained the story of Kutty Theyyam to me as Theyyam stood atop a wooden stool before the shrine. Two young priests held his hands, steadying him as he circled in a tight, stomping dance to the drums. Bells and bangles clatter as he rattled his feet between rotations. It was a magical experience for me! It can be a magical experience for just about anyone! Thanks to Tyndis and Siddarth
Practical tips for seeing Theyyam in Kerala
You can take photos, but be respectful and avoid flash
Respect the norms and regulations at the temple
There are usually other attractions alongside the rituals, such as dramas or music. It varies by the festival
Try to make a donation to the temple -Not necessarily.
Theyyam is a must experience if you are travelling to northern parts of Kerala. I recommend that it is always good to arrange tours with operators like Tyndis who provide storyteller/ local guide assistance.

Excellent tour to take to experience the culture of kerala. Vibrant dance of theyyam is a great visual treat. i like photography and theyyam gives you a great space for creative photography. The team made good arrangements for pick up and drop. theyyam festivals often are held at remote villages - so get yourself equipped for the adventure. Tyndis storyteller Mr. Sujith was exceptional in telling the stories and coordinating the tour. I expect to experience more tour like this one from tyndis tours! I definitely recommend this tour for others!
