I recommend doing the fish curry. It was delicious. Interesting, right pace, lovely food and Manisha was a great host.Written 17 August 2024
- SomiLondon0 contributionsLovely cooking experience, well worth it.A lovely way of spending a couple of hours. Great cooking and chat with Manisha, such a lovely lady. - SharonC4030 contributionsTerrific Cooking Class in PondicherryWe had an absolutely delightful experience here. We attended a Creole Cooking class with Manisha - who was warm and friendly and a skilled, experienced cook! First we prepared the food, then we cooked the food, then Manisha served us the food on traditional banana leaf ‘plates’. Everything was fresh & delicious. Manisha was very respectful of our western palates and didn’t push us into anything too hot or spicy for our taste. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience and absolutely recommend it without hesitation!Written 29 February 2024
- anneguionnet0 contributionsWonderful Cycle Tour and Art and Craft Class with SITAAmazing place to enjoy Pondicherry, with very nice people. The cycle tour offers a nice variety of perspectives. The art and craft class is fantastic. A must-visit place.Written 17 February 2024
- Paul M0 contributionsGreat Cooking class with Maneesha.Wonderful morning and afternoon spent going around the market with the wonderful abd knowledgable Maneesha. I’ve been cooking Indian food for many years and know that Indian home cooked food beats restaurant food hands down and Maneeshas food that we cooked was delicious and very healthy. Highly recommended.Written 5 February 2024
- A4813KPandym0 contributionsDon't miss it!Excellent! Great value and great hostess!! A trip to the market to buy the ingredients and then a leisurely lunch preparation. A great first lesson in how to prepare and use so many spices and flavours.Written 1 February 2024
- sophiecS4048MP0 contributionsA highlight of our Pondicherry tripCouldn't recommend the cooking class more highly. Manisha was extremely informative and a joy to work with. The class is well suited for a wide range of cooking experience/confidence. The menu is very customisable and can be vegetarian. Also brought us to the fish, produce, and spice market that we would have been sorry to miss otherwise.Written 24 January 2024
- Howard1090 contributionsKolam class - a spiritual oasis in PuducherryThis was a real treat. Saranya was a patient and charming hostess and teacher. She gave us a delightful glimpse into daily family life and the spiritual place of Kolam in Tamil Nadu life. We were also kindly allowed to transfer our rained-off bicycle tour. Generous. Thank you. Highly recommended.Written 4 January 2024
- NMDA0 contributionsIf it’s the only thing you do!!!Outstanding! The multitalented Manisha was brilliant she clearly loves her role. Her enthusiasm for teaching was exceptional. She took us first to the local market to buy vegetables which is an experience itself! We cooked the meal under her guidance and so far the best simple meal in India. I’d come back any day. Give her 6 out of 5 stars.Written 31 October 2023
- jay171610 contributionsUnprofessional and shabby kitchenIt's like a household unit. Not a professional teaching centre. No proper equipment. Old worn out ovens and gas stove. Everything looks like a stopgap arrangement. No chef's knife. No proper planning or methodology of teaching established. The poor kind lady was struggling herself to find the things. She was trying her best to teach us how to make eclairs and tarts but kind of like lac of training for the job. But she was very kind and polite.Written 22 September 2023
- viona v0 contributionsMandala drawingsLovely experience great teacher Heema thaught us the traditional ways of kolam or mandala drawings. We had a really good time and it was fun to learn. She also explained some of the history, gave us lots of practice and informed us how we could do this in Europe with similar powder.Written 8 September 2023
- Anna L0 contributionsGreat experienceSo fun! Wholeheartedly recommend the cooking class to all, young or old, experienced cook or not. We went to the market to do the shopping with Manisha, and we made vegetarian dishes and one meat dish and dessert! All delicious and tailored to what we wanted to learn. I loved it.Written 23 July 2023
- HafodBlueMountains0 contributionsSo much more interesting than just eating and shoppingA variety of craft, cooking, exploring and shopping experiences offered on different days/ times - check whats available. Central to main tourist area and an easy walk. Class run by lovely ladies (experienced in their area) who offered the class even though I was the only one (higher charge though).Written 18 July 2023
- Road410585598310 contributionsA fun way to pick up a practical skill!Went for the saree draping workshop and had such a lovely time with Mrs. Lakshmi. She's very passionate about her work and an enthusiastic teacher. We started off with some history about sarees, and what to look out for when shopping for one. Then we moved on to actually draping sarees from her collection. She explained everything step-by-step, demonstrating different styles. You can also pick some accessories to complement your look, and finally get some nice pictures clicked!Written 29 June 2023

Truly terrible service. We had booked for a group of 6 and had two cancellations which were advised well in advance. Continued unanswered emails to seek a refund with no response. I’m not sure if it was just our group, but the sandwich or snack they promise is also at a cafe round the corner at your own cost.

We went to different quarters of Pondicherry on a bicycle. All 4 of us are avid cyclists and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The charming tour guide was very knowlegeable and fluent in several languages. We would recommend it to any travelers who want to go to the inside streets of Pondicherry and learn the history of the place

SITA offers so many options to experience the real Pondicherry. We took advantage of 3 classes:
- Kollam Making
- Bicycle Tour
- Creole Cooking
We enjoyed all the classes and had a very personal experience as we were the only people in each of the classes. This made the classes even better as the teacher was able to customize the class to us. For example, we were on the bike tour and then we were in a cooking class so we purchased food for the dinner at the city market during the bicycle ride. While at the market the teacher bought me my first custard apple. The teacher also adjusted the menu for the cooking class to fit the dietary restrictions of my wife.
Don't miss these experiences.

Took the tour in December 2022 with Manisha, who was very hospitable and welcoming! She explained the history and geography of Pondicherry quite well before we started the bike tour. Had multiple stops on the route covering Tamil Heritage town, fisherman’s village and ending with white town. The tour was intermittently interrupted by rains, which gave the group a chance to get some filter coffee at Surguru’s. Highly recommend to experience Pondicherry this way.

it was really fun and interesting and a good way to learn about the basic layout and history of the town in a quick and interactive way. although, id recommend to future travelers that they undertake this tour towards the beginning of their trip (there's definitely many places you'll see that you'd like to come back to), and that they should only do this if they're quite proficient cycling in traffic - not that there's much traffic early morning, but still. also, the advertised garden breakfast is actually not available anymore - i think the local guides have requested the cultural centre to remove that part from the listing, unfortunately it's still up.

This tour takes you around the four quarters of the old town and also a few interesting spots. Our guide Manisha was really well informed about the history and took us to see some delightful parts of the city which a common traveller would not see. I really liked and enjoyed riding a bicycle around town because for at least some time it made me feel like a local.

If your visiting Pondicherry and you don't do the cycle tour , then you have missed one of the best things out here and your trip ain't complete.
The trip is only for two hours 7 am to 9 am (Yes! You gotta get up early on your vacation) and you get to choose one of the funky colorful nostalgic cycles (as kids we used to see the doodhwala's (milkmen) use this cycle).
Manisha our guide is a charm to be with and knows Pondicherry on her fingertips.
The trip covers all the heritage sites like the Muslim quarters, french quarters, Aurobindo Ashram, Governor House, Sacred Heart Church, Markets of Pondicherry and many more while you tring-tring away on your cycle....
Finally you end back at the cultural centre and are treated with a sumptuous South Indian or French breakfast... where Laxmi - the receptionist takes good care of you.
A must do and a must go when you visit Pondicherry.
Three cheers to Sita Cultural Heritage Centre for adding the extra glamour to our trip.

Relaxed and packed with info! Manisha was a darling, taking care of the entire group as we cycled through little alleys and traversed all local quarters. She's happy to share all information she has to satiate your curiosity. From architecture and demographics, to little nuances about life in Pondicherry, the bicycle tour is a great way explore the Franco-Indian territory.
The vintage cycles are done up so cutely, it's worth a picture and memory! I'd highly recommend reaching at least 15mins before time - helps them seamlessly execute the tour for you. They run two slots at the moment - one in the morning, other in the evening. Roughly 2-2.5 hrs. It's a breezy and relaxed pace, allowing you to take in the sights and sounds at leisure.
Laxmi at SITA was equally helpful, providing details, schedules, and taking care of other nitty-gritties of breakfast. The meal I chose was traditional south-Indian, with a steaming cup of tea. Absolutely fresh and delightful, especially after our morning ride. You can always opt for the French breakfast as well (croissant with jam, butter and some juice at the side).
Definitely recommend the tour.

We went on the Wake Up Pondy bike tour with Manisha last week and loved it. We were jet lagged, so the early start didn't bother us, but it is vital to avoid the heat. Manisha was a lovely guide who took us through the different areas of Pondicherry and explained the notable features. There a few stops on the way, my favourite being Goubert Market (right in the action of a busy morning!). I was concerned you would have to ride on the crazy roads with the tuk tugs and cars, but you pretty much keep to all the quiet roads and alleys. And just when you are feeling a bit saddle sore, we got back to a lovely South Indian breakfast in the garden of Sita. Highly recommend this tour!!

Does one have to be very adept at bicycle riding? I rode a lot as a kid, but since then and decades later, I am a bit wobbly. Will it matter? Or should I find a walking tour? Thanks for any response.
Written 24 June 2018
No you need not be very adept... Plus you could go one day earlier and check out the bicycles and try them which suits you best and use the same one the next day.
