- rashmu1350 contributionsA wholesome experience filled with knowledgeI visited this place with my friends on our trip to Coorg. It’s a scenic plantation site that has varieties of coffee and spices. Mr. Ravi was our guide who gave us a tour through the plantation. He had such an amazing knowledge and explained us about plantation of different types of coffee and spices. We also saw their coffee roasting unit and got some free chocolates for tasting. The other staff members were so polite and welcoming. We had coffee and Kadambuttu- a traditional rice dish over there which was delicious, got free wine tasting and purchased some spices from there. Thank you to each one of you. It was such a wonderful and wholesome experience, and I would one hundred percent recommend this place to anyone who’s planning to visit Coorg.Written 25 February 2023

- SUNKHAT0 contributionsA must thing to do while you are in MadikeriMercara Estate Tour must be top of your list when you are in Madikeri. Its around 8 KM from town and amidst of green cover. Tour is typically for one hour and whether you are a coffee lover or just a casual observer, there is something for everyone. The tour starts at every hour and one of the local representative of estate takes the touring party around. For us, it was Mr. Ravi and what a blast we had with his funny but entertaining comments while explaining the nitty/gritty of the coffee making process with sublime messages towards our own responsibility for greater good. You can buy the coffee (blend as you like) and variety of spices from local shop, which are local produce. Interestingly we also saw one snake trying to cross the road but retraced when he noticed us moving in our car, proving that we are in middle of true nature and in their terrainWritten 25 December 2022
- gitart20220 contributionsEpic tour with good food and proper descriptions. We started the tour around 11:00 am and Mr. Ravi explained everything beautifully and after each explanation he even gave us samples of various coffee berries, beans, black peppers, chillies, etc. I would recommend to visit this estate if anyone wants to know how coffee is grown, different types of coffee, different spices, and how they are processed, roasted, and packaged for consumption. We had booked a tour with lunch and it was really good. I recommend everyone to try the pork option, although chicken and vegetarian is good too. I am happy with the way Mr. Ravi explained everything in detail and we even had tiny discussions about the good and bad aspects of caffeine. He even took pictures for us and while having lunch we even talked about local cuisines. 11/10.Written 16 December 2022

A must visit for all coffee and spice lovers.. The guide explains in detail about the various type of coffee and different spices that grow in the estate. They have these items on sale and the quality is on a different level.
We had the Coorgi traditional lunch and each item prepared and served by Yashoda and Murukesh was lip smacking.

This was a very informative and fun tour of the coffee estate. Our tour guide (Ravi) was very knowledgeable about the various plants grown on the estate and had a nice friendly demeanor. For the very reasonable cost of the tour, I would highly recommend taking this tour when visiting Madikeri. Even though we visited once the crops had been harvested, the information about the process of growing the various crops was definitely fun to learn about.

Visited Mercara gold estate coffee plantation with family a few days back for a guided tour of their plantation and lunch. The plantation walk and guided tour was very nice and unique experience. Our guide Mr. Ravi was very knowledgeable and explained in detail the different varieties of coffee and other plantations here, how they are grown and nurtured at every stage and their health benefits. We had opted for veg lunch thali. The food was very homely and delicious though the options on the platter could have been more for the cost paid. They have clean and well maintained washrooms too. Strongly recommend a visit to this estate.

The tour is very educational and fun if you have Ravi as your coffee buddy..His immense knowledge and sense of humor combine to give a very educational boring tour a twist. The estate on its own is amazing. Both my parents are senior citizens and Ravi was very patient with us. We took a little extra time to walk from one place to another. The best part is as much as my senior citizen parents loved it so did my 9 year old. Ravi made sure that all of us feel included in the discussions and answered our questions patiently. Thank you Mercara!!!

After reading a lot of excellent reviews about this place online, we decided to take this plantation visit, and I must say it was a good decision. Mr. Salim very patiently gave us the plantation tour which went around 1.5 hours. The tour was excellent and gave very minute details about the whole process. While we were staying at Rare Earth (Ama Stays and Trails), the staff arranged an estate visit for us, to Mercara Gold Estate. As it is fairly close to Madikeri, it is a convenient distance for those staying around Madikeri. We visited Mercara Gold estate in July (2022) during the heavy rains. We were received and taken around by Ravi. The walk around a part of the Estate was terrific in the rains (with umbrellas) accompanied by Ravi's fluent description of all the nature that surrounded us. Ravi's sharp and tongue-in-cheek humour along with his immense knowledge made the walk very special and entertaining. During the monsoons, the walk is not suitable for older people as the terrain is slippery. Vichitra's hot choclate at the Cafe was excellent. The walk is available for the public at a cost of Rs 200 per head (which includes a free cup of the coffee from the estate).

A few kilometres from the city (About 7-8) it was worth a tour of the estate. We started off with knowing a lot about coffee types and different spices.
It costs 200/- per head and is completely worth the money.
The Guide Mr. Ravi was very fluent and knowledgeable and did provide us with a number of facts previously unknown to us. He was really enthusiastic about describing the minute details about coffee and the spices.
At the end they serve you with filter coffee and you can also try different other things with it. They have a shop as well wherein you can get your coffee spices and chocolates as well.
All in all a great 1 hour and worth the visit. Would definitely recommend for the tour if you are on Coorg.

It's a beautiful estate to spend an evening with a healthy vegetation of coffee and spices. A must visit when in Madikeri for learning more about coffee and a chance to buy your personalised blend. Mr. Ravi gave us a nice tour of the estate and will explain all you need to know about the lifecycle of the plant, from seed to your cup with some great facts, origin story and myths about different varieties of the beloved brown bean.
They use the traditional old school ways from hand picking till roasting and blending and you get to see all that first hand along with the mesmerizing aroma of the Arabica bean lingering across the roasting room! And finally a traditional cup of filter coffee to fuel your senses!
A worthwhile experience, one should absolutely include in their itinerary!

The Coffee estate is located amidst the beautiful hills of Madikeri, Coorg making it a perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely time. We were welcomed by the staff at the estate and Mr. Ravi among them took us for the Coffee estate and spice tour. He explained wveeything in great detail and really added to our knowledge and experience of Coffee. We were also showed how varoeties of coffee are roasted and processed.
We had also booked a lunch at the estate, so after our estate tour we were served with the some really nice home cooked food made all the more delicious by Mr. Shaban's hospitality. He was very warm and cordial.
After finishing our lunch, we were served with a cup of nice filter coffee, which was on the house and then we indulged in shopping their own grown, spices, coffee and skincare products guided by Mr. Bichitra.
They also made us taste some lovely wine, please try their bird eye chilli wine.
It was a wholesome day!
Please keep it on your list if you are heading to Coorg.

We were very excited about our coffee plantation tour when we arrived. Unfortunately, while it was very informative, experience wise, it was a bit of a let down. They were very accommodating as we were a little late, but when we arrived, we were just sort of gestured to sit down at a table and wait for 15min. This wouldn’t have been a problem but there were a lot of people standing around and it was not made clear to us what was the agenda. It would have been a nice touch to have been welcomed, informed clearly of the plan, and offered some tender coconut water or something to drink. Ravi did our tour - he was an encyclopedia of knowledge about coffee. Unfortunately, there were parts of the tour experience that could have been much better. We had 4 senior citizens in our group and there was quite a bit of uphill climbing ( which we were warned about and would have been ok with) except there were no handrails for most of the uphill steeper parts. Our guide often rushed ahead of us, and the information, though delivered in a professorial way, felt very rushed and impersonal. We would have appreciated a warmer more personal experience.
Of note, we did have a traditional Kodagu lunch afterwards on the estate, hosted by Ponappa who was an excellent host, friendly, welcoming and generous with his time. Cannot speak more highly of him. The food was 5/5 (felt traditional, home cooked and not greasy/ spicy) so highly recommend this part of the experience.

It takes about 2-3 hrs inside the estate. They tour you in a group and sometimes there may be a wait time for more people to join to form a group.
You can call them anytime during the working hours(number is available on their website) and fix up a time and walk in.
Good place to visit.
