    What to Expect
After port pickup in Skagway, your approx. 4-hour shore excursion starts with a pleasant 10-mile (16-km) van ride along the coastline to Chilkoot Trail. Upon arrival at the trailhead, follow your knowledgeable guide into a temperate rainforest. Your active moderate-level hike covers 2 miles (3.2 km) and begins on steep, uneven ground that ascends in elevation about 300 feet (92 meters), before proceeding downhill and then on level terrain for the last mile.
Along the way, look for local wildlife and plants, and hear engaging tales about Skagway and the Klondike Gold Rush. The Chilkoot Trail provided the most direct route between the Skagway/Dyea area and the Klondike Gold Fields around Dawson City in the Yukon. During your hike, you’ll be retracing part of the same path that prospectors of long-ago took to get around Skagway's White Pass Trail and arrive at the Yukon River.
Then, climb aboard a rubber raft seating maximum 11 passengers and drift along the Taiya River, which flows parallel to the Chilkoot Trail. Your river float takes you through the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Keep your eyes peeled and listen for possible wildlife, including otters, eagles, bears and salmon. (Note: Wildlife sightings though possible are not guaranteed)
Wrap up your rafting journey with a riverbank snack.
Your Chilkoot tour ends with transport back to Skagway's cruise terminal.

We booked this scenic hike and float in the hope of experiencing some of Alaska’s nature up close but beforehand we were worried that it may be trying to cater for the cruise ship masses. We were extremely pleased to say this excursion was everything...More

I would recommend this excursion - a two mile hike on a tiny portion of the Chilkoot Trail and a slow raft trip down the Taiya River. Our guide Brook was extremely knowledgeable about the berries, trees, bushes, etc. and so helpful and capable. An...More

There are a few places where you have to scramble up and down some rocks - if you are fit and able, you should be able to handle it. I highly recommend making use of the walking poles they have for your use. Our guide was... More
