Overview
With alligators, hidden villages, and snakes, Louisiana’s swamps can be scary to explore on your own. On this tour, your guide will keep you safe—and fill you in on Cajun history—while you explore the swampy territories. Visit areas of Honey Island Swamp you can only reach by boat, and learn about the area’s wildlife from your guide. Plus, round-trip transport from New Orleans makes for a no-hassle adventure.

    Honey Island Swamp
    Stop: 2 hours -
Your guide welcomes you aboard a custom-made 22-passenger flat-bottom boat. The smaller sized, quiet boat can fit through narrow passages in the swamp foliage so that you see more and get closer to wildlife. It’s the ideal way to take in the lush environment of Cajun country. As your guide explains the history of Louisiana’s wetlands and swamp ecosystem, be on the lookout for resident wildlife including alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boar, nutria, snakes, turtles, black bears, bald eagles and many other bird species. Get a close look at some wild gators as your guide shares facts about the toothy beasts, who can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Their ancestors once roamed the earth with the dinosaurs and scientists estimate that they have existed for more than 150 million years. Glide safely through the fertile swamplands, learning about Cajun culture and how local people have utilized the swamp for food, homes, and medicine from your guide. You even see an authentic Cajun village that is only accessible by boat. Gain an understanding of why the wetlands are slowly disappearing and about the efforts being made to preserve Louisiana's natural treasures. After a fascinating 2-hour boat tour on Honey Island Swamp, your guide returns you to shore. You can either take the coach back to your New Orleans hotel or make your own way to your next destination, depending on the option you have chosen when booking.

This was one of our favorite activities on our trip to NOLA. The bus driver was very accommodating when I got lost and was a couple of moments late to the bus (whew!), and didn't shame me when I arrived (though my companions did!). The tour guide, Barry, was so fun and funny and

This tour was great! From the moment we were picked up by our shuttle driver Alfred, to the end of the tour. Alfred told us info about the area as we passed certain places on the shuttle on our way to the swamp. He was very knowledge and friendly. The tour itself was great.

Difficult time to get around the City due to Mardi Gras restrictions but picked up at the hotel and taken to another meeting point and transferred on to a larger bus. Travelled for about 40 minutes with informative and humorous commentary from our driver Dewayne - great guy.

I was fully expecting this to be a leisurely boat tour with maybe a few guest appearances by cute swamp animals. And don’t get me wrong, you will very likely get some great photos of raccoons and wild boar frolicking in prehistoric swamp fantasia landscapes. But the tour
