Overview

Experience the Louisiana bayou outside of New Orleans on this airboat ride near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Learn about the historic swampland, just a short ride outside the city, teeming with wildlife through your guide’s commentary. This tour offers an excellent way to get out of the city and into Louisiana nature. Both self-drive and hotel pickup options are available to fit your budget and schedule.

What to Expect

When booking, customize this tour to fit your schedule. You can choose from morning or afternoon departures; self-drive to the town of Jean Lafitte; or bus pickup at your New Orleans hotel.

Once you arrive at the launch site, step aboard your airboat (small boats accommodate six to eight passengers; large boats are limited to 25). Hold on to your seat as the fast, light boat takes off through the tidewater cypress swamp, which borders Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The flat-bottom airboat allows access to even the shallowest of water, where many tidal birds and swamp creatures make their homes.

Your guide narrates the sights, such as tupelo-gum trees and cypress trees covered with moss, as you whip through the water. Learn about the bayou’s native creatures, such as nutria, snakes, turtles, and alligators.

Back in Jean Lafitte, stop by the albino alligator exhibit or grab some food before leaving.

My family and I had a great time! This is the perfect experience if you’re looking for a good blend of fun, informative, and unique. The boat goes fast, the landscapes are breathtaking, and we learned so much about the wildlife and the area from...More

Smiled the whole time

Great fun! We went mid March and saw around 20 alligators, 10 turtles, and many birds. We went on the small airboat, which may have gotten us into more isolated and narrow channels. Definitely bring a warm jacket that helps break the wind, the boat...More

Fun Airboat & Gators too

A cool March day (~60 degrees) is not real favorable for alligators but we probably saw about a dozen, mostly 3-4 feet long. The pilot was great. He took the time to talk and explain what to expect. He used finesse to get us close...More

Paid for airboat, got a pontoon ride

Poor service. Not true to what they say. Very disappointed. We have been on pontoon boats if we'd known thats what they were going to do with us then definitely wouldn't have wasted the extra money we paid for an airboat ride nor the time...More

Great experience!

Paul gave us an amazing experience from going fast to slow rolling and answering questions. Even in March we saw several gators and other animals. He got a few to come close and play with ropes.
