    What to Expect
The Museum of the American Revolution, opening in the Spring of 2017 in the heart of historic Philadelphia, tells the dramatic story of America's founding through immersive gallery experiences, object theaters, and large-scale tableaux. From the early moments of unrest in Boston to the opening shots of the War of Independence; from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the beginning of the American Republic, the museum’s permanent exhibition explores the ideas, events, and legacies of America's Revolutionary beginnings.

The 118,000-square-foot museum will highlight America’s founding generation, honoring those who risked everything to secure the liberties that continue to influence the world today. Develop a deeper understanding of the people, the ideas, and the events that gave birth to America and enjoy high-tech media, digital interactives, hands-on experiences, and personal interactions with the museum’s guides.

Learn (through seven galleries) how the American Colonists became Revolutionaries. Explore a massive, interactive map of North America. Discover what it meant to gain independence with a hands-on interactive display. Watch Congress issue the Declaration of Independence — one of the most important documents ever written — on July 4, 1776. Stand beneath the branches and lanterns of a life-size reproduction of the Boston Liberty Tree. And see original examples of the first state Constitutions.

Also, experience America during the darkest hours of the Revolutionary War. Follow the American retreat from New York through the Battles of Long Island, White Plains, and Fort Washington. Walk across a floor-sized map of the campaign in New York and look at original witness objects from those battles. Design a soldier uniform with an interactive display. Plus, in an object theater entitled ‘the Weapons of War,’ check out a wall display of world-class weapons — British, French, and American weaponry — used during the Revolutionary War, including muskets, swords, powder horns, cartridge boxes, and more.

Then explore the final years of the War for Independence from a variety of perspectives from the people who lived through it. Come face-to-face with life-size figures on horseback, climb aboard a replica privateer ship, and view the war in an immersive theatre experience.

Finally, watch as a new nation – born of the War for Independence – begins its own journey. Learn how the nation emerged from war to create a republican society, come face-to-face with America’s first ‘greatest generation’ through their photographs, and much more.

Additional museum amenities include a gift shop and the Cross Keys Café, with breakfast, lunch, and snack options.

We loved this museum. But the number of school groups with unruly kids was annoying. To really get the most out of this museum you need to read the signs and do the interactive items. It was hard to concentrate, absorb, and appreciate everything with the raucous hoards of high

A very well-done museum, covering the revoluton from several perspectives. Just opened in 2017. Has 2 short videos giving outline to the museum displays. I didn't realize how close we came to losing that war. And it shows how George Washington was such a hero, in a number

This museum is so awesome and not just because it has Washington’s Tent either. The exhibit and the film is phenomenal. All the hands on learning and extras are great as well. I would definitely visit again next time.

Nice museum but nothing special. Its interesting but not worth the price of admission. The best part is seeing General Washington's actual tent that he used as an office during the war.

Went here on a rain-soaked Friday and was very impressed by all the interactive features. The completely immersive nature of all the displays, including video, sounds, “please touch” reproductions, (and so much more!) was about as good as it gets. Almost as if Walt Disney told
