What originally got me to book this tour was reading the responses the owner had to some of the negative reviews (I specifically enjoyed "the gall" response). I figured a person with this amount of care for his customers, coupled with the humor displayed, should be a good time.

And boy was I right!!

Though we did not have Tim to give the tour (his name was Shaymus? Seamus? Shaemas? .. anyway) it was an overall delight to go through historic parts of the City of Brotherly Love, and hear interesting tidbits of "unofficial" landmarks along the way! While we were not able to go into some of the buildings, we spent ample time around the area, and got an in depth review of its significance in American Revolution (or even before!). The walk was an easy one at a perfect pace, with no one (from what I saw at least) feeling tired or out of breath by the end.

If you have a few hours to kill and are willing to part with the ticket price, I say it's a quick and easy way to get a brief review of historic landmarks of Philadelphia.

When touring Philadelphia, no trip is complete without visiting the historical sites. There are many museums and special exhibitions to see, but to get a more in-depth view of our nation's history, a walking tour with a local historian is a must. After researching several tour companies, we chose Founding Footsteps Tours, and we opted for a private tour to avoid a larger group due to covid as well as to have dedicated attention from the guide so all our questions would be answered. We were fortunate to have as our guide Casey, who is not only a local resident but also is a history teacher. He spent over two hours with us, walking us all across historic Philadelphia, stopping at the many sites: The Liberty Bell, grave site of Benjamin Franklin, Firehouse Engine 8 Ladder 2, Betsy Ross' house, Elfreth's Alley, the Franklin's printing press shop and home site, and ending at Independence Hall, with a smattering of a few other places in between. He was a terrific tour guide and we highly recommend Founding Footsteps for your Philadelphia historic tours.

Out tour guide Tim was extremely knowledgeable and his sense of humor made it fun. He. made the founding fathers come alive, especially Ben Franklin, and we highly recommend this tour.

It was challenging for all 13 of us on Tim’s tour, walking 3.2 miles in a 101 heat index (temp + humidity) through historic Philly. Tim conveyed lots of info in his machine-gun delivery, so fast much was lost by aged ears (mine). What we collectively paid $455 for (13 x $35) was two hours of Tim’s undivided time. Instead I felt Tim just didn’t relate, spending too much time on his phone either booking other tour customers or reviewing his spiels. Read the exclusions: we thought the higher price might include an admission or two; we didn’t go in at any stop. At tour’s end Tim had the gall to say he depended on gratuities, despite what we had already paid. A bottle of cold water would have gone a long way. The super rating of this tour is unwarranted when compared to similar tours. Choose your tour wisely.

Hi. There’s a lot of discrepancies with your review that I’d like to point out. First, gall is a strong word. What I actually say towards the end of every tour is “We are a hospitality industry. Gratuities are greatly appreciated and never expected. More important for us are reviews.” There was no issue at all with you and your wife being the only people on the tour not to tip. Second, while I appreciate you doing the math for the group, it’s not accurate. There were 14 people total (of which your party was 2). It doesn’t account for the heavy fee to the ticket reseller and assumes all the money goes to me. it also ignores the thousands of dollars a month in overhead and nearly a year of my business being closed due to the pandemic. As for the distance walked, it is nowhere near 3.2 miles. You and your wife walked to the starting location from your RV, adding about 1.5 miles to that total. Perhaps that extra distance contributed to you both feeling the extent of the heat. It certainly was a hot day. We sell a 90 minute tour and usually are closer to two hours. At any point during that time, you could have spoke up if you felt I was talking too fast. As for getting you a water, I would’ve gladly done so. You came prepared with your own as well as wet handkerchiefs for yourself so it seemed to me that you were already prepared. We did make a stop half way through the tour at a coffee shop specifically for people to take a water break. You chose not to use it. Lastly, you state that the tour was “challenging for all 13”. I don’t appreciate you speaking for the rest of the group. Again, you were two out of 14. To insinuate that everyone else agrees with you, when that was not at all the case...the gall. Thank you.

We saw everything I hoped we’d see, except Christ Church Burial Ground and the Liberty Bell, which have a separate admission fee. Tim was fun, knowledgeable, had some Dad jokes and playfully harassed folks in Sox and Mets hats during the tour (totally Philly). Highly recommend this tour!

Tim was a wonderful tour guide, explaining historical facts and legends "with a side of humor". At first it was a little difficult to understand him because of the wind blowing (the tour is mostly outdoors), but in the wind-protected courtyards it was awesome!

The coffee that he provided as a free beverage was the BEST!

The pace was unrushed, very doable for someone like me with a knee issue. It was perfect because we had a few opportunities to sit for a bit. The group was small and we stayed outdoors 95% of the time, so it felt very COVID safe.

I would totally recommend this outdoors walking tour for adults and kids alike! You will hear a lot about Benjamin Franklin. Most interesting to me was hearing my favorite story of his writing the Silence Do Good stories and how he changed from being a loyalist to becoming the "First American" in one day. Walking in the same places our founding fathers walked, where Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross lived and where the Declaration of Independence was signed is the genuine American experience!

This was a fantastic tour! Seamus was an awesome tour guide and we had a great time. It covers the main sites in old city and ends at Independence Hall. The group we were in was pretty small, maybe 10 people and Seamus was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone. It's truly the perfect length at 90 minutes and Seamus gave us plenty of time to ask questions and take pictures. Also - please tip your tour guides people! This is still the hospitality industry.

This was a great tour to get familiar with all of the top spots to go back to later. Seamus was very knowledgeable and entertaining in his presentation. We appreciated his time in answering all of our questions to the best of his ability. He was even able to handle non-paying people that listened in at a stop with clarity, grace, and kindness.

Excellent tour by Tim, the owner, whose love of Franklin is evident at every stop. Full of knowledge and enthusiastic to share,he delightfully engaged someone at the Betsy Ross house about the earliest flags and as we learned more, he did as well. Pace was good. Great coffee/cold drink stop. Second time we have done this tour and if guide differs (as it has), so do the areas of expertise/emphasis. Would not hesitate to use again next time we have guests in town. Highly recommend!
