Begin your tour at Tompkins Square Park, where you meet up with your guide and small group. Then, stroll with your guide through the streets of the East Village, learning about Manhattan’s cocktail culture from Prohibition to today. See a water fountain donated to the city by a temperance leader who advocated water over whiskey. Hear about the key figures in the Village’s bar scene, including cutting edge mixologists. Visit former speakeasies and learn about the mobsters and corrupt officials who kept the taps open during an era when alcohol was banned. Stop into Astor Wines and discover small-batch distillers and local producers. After three cocktail stops, head off on your own armed with recommendations for food and drink from your guide.
