Overview
Greenwich Village, or simply the Village, is one of New York City’s most beautiful and famous neighborhoods. Take a guided 2-hour walking tour of this legendary Lower Manhattan space, an important landmark on the map of American bohemian culture. Learn how it became a birthplace of the ’60s counterculture movement. Hear about the famous artists who once lived here, from  Edgar Allan Poe to Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and countless others. Walk the winding streets and visit popular Washington Square Park, reliving more than 200 years of history.
What to Expect
Greenwich Village and its winding streets were already here when the rest of Manhattan’s streets were laid out as a grid in the early 19th century. See those crooked streets and more in a 2-hour guided walking tour that covers more than 200 years of history. Check out the beautiful, historic brownstone residential buildings and the area’s bars and restaurants.
Edgar Allan Poe lived and wrote in this historic and beautiful neighborhood. The poet Dylan Thomas drank himself to death here. Radical thinkers John Reed and Upton Sinclair started counterculture movements, and the Village has been a haven for bohemians and a birthplace of the Beat movement. Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix played the small clubs and created some of their best music here. Your guide will also share the history of the gay rights movement as you pass landmarks.
Experience the present, learn a lot about the past and maybe even get a glimpse into the future of this iconic space in New York City. Finish the tour in iconic Washington Square and continue to explore this small but historic geographic area on your own.
