- 667deedeeb0 contributionsWorse tour I’ve ever been onThis is the worst tour I’ve ever been on. I love taking all kinds of tours and I’ve never seen anything as pathetic as this one. It was more of a theatrical performance than an a actual ghost tour and the “acting” was horrible. The stories were not even good. That’s 2 hours and $100 I’ll never get back. Don’t waste your time.Written 11 November 2022

- OHsoccermom50 contributionsDaytime Scary Stories and a bit of historyWhat a great time!! So, firstly there was Bernard, our Grave Digger tour guard. Not only was he an excellent orator, but also a large and looming presence which enhanced our tour. We went during the daytime; I would love to go back for a night time tour. If you take this tour, just know that there is some walking, and some hilly sidewalks.Written 28 August 2022
- KitKat_CoatRack0 contributionsThe scariest part of this tour is customer serviceThis is my first review on Trip Advisor, my second on Yelp, and second on Google because this is how bad the experience was. I don't normally care enough to write review, but here we are. This isn't actually about the tour, as we were never able to get on one. We arrived 2 minutes before the trolley left (7:28pm for the 7:30pm tour) and were informed by the man who checked us in (who was very nice throughout this process) to try running and making our trolley. Unfortunately, the trolley coordinator informed us we weren't able to make it because we were supposed to arrive 30 minutes early as specified in the email. We never got this email and have checked the deleted and spam folders (this will be important later). Our seats had, by 7:28pm, been "given away to other people not on the tour," according to the trolley coordinator. This seemed odd, but wasn't a biggie, as he told us he could get us on the 8:00pm tour. It was cold and rainy, but we figured it gave us a chance to us the restroom and also thought, at this time, we may have missed the email in our inbox. We also made friends with the three people who were there at 7:25pm and also weren't allowed on the trolley. They commented at one point that it "seems like we are in time out". This was the treatment given despite the fact they were late because one of their party got an email without a ticket attached and only got the ticket a HALF HOUR before the tour (bizarre as you're apparently supposed to be THERE a half hour before). The bus arrived and people were getting on who had their tickets for the 8:00pm train; we could not get on until last because we had tickets for a different time and they had to ensure people got onto their correctly timed trolley/bus (these were buses now, not trolleys, just fyi - they still looked nice as a tour vehicle). But here's where it got...interesting. The other party of three waiting got there five minutes before the buses (there were two for 8:00pm) left and weren't allowed on. Five, four, three minutes before these buses left, people were allowed on continuously. Two, one, zero minutes before the buses left (we arrived two minutes before ours) they were still letting people on. 8:03pm, three minutes after the buses were supposed to leave they were still letting people on. So, two minutes early and we couldn't get on and three minutes after these buses were supposed to leave, people were allowed on. The three with us also were still waiting. At this point, my husband (we're on our honeymoon), went up to the bus coordinator to ask why people were being allowed on far after we and the others were not, at which point the coordinator raised his voice and sent my husband back to the line. He said the time on their clocks didn't match the time on ours OR the other party's clocks, so somehow, the clocks of the first tour were at least five minutes early but the clocks of this tour were running at least three minutes late - I have no idea how that's possible. When my husband explained we didn't get the email and showed his email inbox to the coordinator and allowed this man to scroll through it, the EXPLANATION for us NOT GETTING THE EMAIL was, "oh, that happens sometimes." To top it all off, after that we went to the ticket counter because again, he had been very nice and helpful, to try and figure out what was going on. Unfortunately, he could only direct us to the passive-aggressive and inconsistent individual we had been trying to work with. He informed us he'd let the bus leave with "two seats allowed for" us because we'd "decided to move to the ticket counter". So, we were 15 ft away but he couldn't let us know because we were making a fuss. Glad the other three made it on for not complaining, but clocks don't change within half an hour, and not getting emails because "oh, that happens sometimes", is unacceptable. Do NOT trust this company.Written 13 November 2021

- sclawgirl20160 contributionsA little history, a little spooky, a lot of funAn hour and a half of local ghost stories and history. Told in an entertaining fashion. Not recommended for small children, as they might be too scared. Couple of things. My gps took me to the wrong place. So make sure you have their number. Also, this is not a sit on the trolley all night and ride around. You get out and walk through a couple of cemeteries and one is up an incredibly steep hill. So that may not work well if you have mobility issues. But overall, a wonderful time!!!Written 26 October 2020

We really enjoyed this tour, from the sights and facts to the outstanding storytelling by Evelyn. She was so expressive and fun to listen to and I learned a lot, even as a lifelong local resident. There are several parts where the group needs to walk from the trolley to/from a graveyard and I was impressed with the hustle and coordination to keep everyone together and safe from traffic. Evelyn also engaged with the group during the walks with more informal conversations while still in character and it added so much to the experience.
The trolley is heated with plastic zippered windows, so on a cold night it was chilly but comfortable. Great for teenagers and adults, If you’re considering this tour I highly recommend, it was great to have an activity after most attractions are closed for the evening.

I appreciated how easy it was to buy tickets online and check in upon arrival. The staff was friendly and helpful with any questions.
If you look at the website or see reviews with pictures you will see the guides “dressed” in costume. The guides spoke with what seemed to be fake voices the entire tour. The costumes with the perceived fake voices made it challenging for me to decipher what was historical information vs jokes or embellishments and all in all was very theatrical and distracting. If they are going for zombie guides- they may have nailed it…a baby doll head on a walking stick? Umm…I’ll just leave that there.
All of that aside, the trolly was smooth, safe and clean. The cemeteries you get to see are very old, historical and a portion of the ticket price (I believe $5 was mentioned) goes to upkeep of the historical cemeteries in Boston. You also get to see other areas such as the location of the Boston Massacre, where the Boston Strangler committed acts, and the origin point of the great molasses disaster.
**Do be aware there is walking involved on the trolly tour- including up a steep hill. This may be a challenge for those whose mobility concerns.**

My husband and I did the Ghosts & Gravestones Tour last Thursday night. We’ve done ghost tours before, but never with a trolley. The trolley was decked out in spooky decor which created a fun ambience. It was rainy when the tour started, but thankfully the trolley had clear plastic shades that could be unzipped to add a little ventilation. We visited 2 graveyards and learned numerous spooky stories throughout. The real highlight of our tour was our guide, Bernard. He was animated, hilarious, and fully committed to his spooky character. He kept the trolley laughing the entire time while making sure we all stuck together and were safe. He made an A experience an A++. I’d highly recommend the Ghosts & Gravestones Tour to anyone visiting Boston who doesn’t mind a good scare!

I’m usually not one for leaving reviews, but I feel like I had to say something about our experience. I didn’t set my expectations over the roof but I at least expected to be a little spooked considering this a ghost tour but unfortunately it’s just another tourist trap. I had expected that at least we’d stop by at more places than two graveyards for an hour and a half, however majority of the tour was spent in the tour bus driving in circles around to pass the time. (only spent about 10-15 minutes in the graveyards just standing around and looking at a couple tombstones) and even in the graveyards it was pretty lack luster and overall a non scary and boring experience. At least if this a supposed “ghost tour” you should expect some sort of thrill other than a straight up history lesson for the price. Multiple people left in the middle of the tour and didn’t board back onto the bus and I couldn’t blame them. I just expected so much more for $47 per person. The guide was witty and informative but honestly if I’m paying this much money for something that’s false advertising I could clearly just research the stories being told myself while visiting the graveyards during the day for free. If you’re looking to spend majority of your time sitting down then this is for you, but if you’re expecting something more immersive and actually scary I would recommend skipping this one.

We really wanted to like this tour. Our family does a ghost tour whenever we travel so we have an extensive background on what to expect.
First, the trolley is a bonus. The staff and guides are all in costume and character. They are all very good.
But this is where it ends. The tour was "meh." For 2 hours, there wasn't much content. We were entertained the entire time, even while riding the trolley but given that this is Boston, you'd expect there to be tons of great stories to tell. Instead, we got a handful.
The event was fully booked but the attendees were all quiet and there was little interaction. Essentially, the entertainment was great but the content was sparse.

Great family adventure. We loved the 8PM tour because it was just dark enough to get into it! Agnus, our amazing guide, was completely in character the entire time. She was full of great stories, humor and kept the crowd of 10-75 year olds entertained the entire time. We took 10/13 year old boys and it was their favorite part of our time in Boston/Maine.

So fun! The tour was lively and our costumed guide was a passionate and knowledgeable storyteller. We enjoyed hearing some of the darker stories of the city’s rich history. We arrived 30 min early as requested and were offered two spots on the tour leaving momentarily so we got on the earlier tour. Really great customer service and a lot of fun!

So much fun for the whole family (3 teenagers)! The staff are dressed up in scary costumes and definitely play the part.
We had an amazing animator who really entertained the whole ride to the two graveyards, with spooky stories. We took the tour at 8:30 and the atmosphere was great as it was dark and nobody was in the graveyards from the Freedom Trail.
Definitely worth the $!

We initially booked a tour for 6pm but we received a text at 4pm saying that if you didn’t check in 30 mins that “Late check-in may result in forfeited seat and missed tour times are non-refundable”
The information on trip advisor said 20 mins, I know this is small, but I feel like it was a bit off putting prior to the tour starting. Everyone seemed to follow the directions from the text so it could have just been a “me” thing. The text also said, Half of the tour is walking outside in graveyards. I feel like the description of the tour could have been more accurate, there were people on the tour that you could tell didn’t expect to walk as much as they did. It also is very dark, the tour guide did have a flashlight but I think either offering them or having another person with a flashlight would have been nice. I also had a really hard time hearing and understanding the tour guide once we were at the sights. On the bus they had a microphone so it was better. The tour guide was nice and funny but I was looking for even more stories. My husband really enjoyed it and I thought it was okay. 3 stars for logistics and description but everything else was fine, all and all a solid tour and a different activity for a night out in Boston!

these guys go above and beyond to create the mood for tour dressing in costume and trying to frighten you . All a lil bit of fun
this tour is approx 75% on the bud and 25% walking. You will visit several gravesites
I believe I saw a ghost / vision (call it what you want) at the Granary graveyard which I am still waiting to have verified from the tour group
It was a silhouette of a man in a thick long cloak with some sort of hat on . He was holding an unlit lantern which peaked my interest. I assumed it was our tour guide waiting to frighten us or the next group that arrived at the graveyard but as we got closer to the Franklin obelisk - nobody was there
My investigations tell me it was possibly a famous lawyer , James Otis Jr
Tip : we got a $10 discount for each ticket because we combined our trolley ride and tea party ticket

Our family is vacationing in Boston the middle of August. We have a 1 yr old. I know the ages say 6-99. I am just wondering if we would be able to do the tour with our 1 year old?

To be Honest, I don't think so. There is no car seats or seat belts in the Trolley plus you are roaming graveyards in the dark. Not a great place for a stroller. I would check with the tour staff but I would think it will be a NO due to safety concerns.

Is there parking close to starting point? Cost? Is it cold in late October?
Written 21 March 2023
There is a parking garage 0.3 miles away at 5 Broad St., and a parking lot 0.5 miles away at 14-40 Lewis Wharf. Average temperatures from 10/21 to 10/31 range in highs between 57-60 and lows of 43-46. Wind can cause temperatures to feel lower than they are.

Not really heated, they have plastic windows that you can pull up and down, but as far as being heated and comfortable they are not, you have to wear jackets and and you're out walking around quite a bit so prepare yourself for cold weather if that's when you're going.
