Touring the Back Country of Canyonlands and Arches was so worth it
We chose to visit Moab in late February. Unfortunately, most places were not open for the season yet. One place that was open was Navtech. And, Boy Howdy, are we glad they were. We did not we'd be that interested in a full day back country 4x4 tour, one half in Canyonlands and one half in Arches. We did not think we were the type to enjoy the (occasionally very) rough road touring through the back country of the parks. We were WRONG, it was GREAT! We are so glad that Navtech was the place open and the tour we got from them. There is a wonder in seeing things in the back country that only probably 3% of people who visit the park see. So our, oh well I guess we'll do that, became Oh my goodness, I am so glad we did that.

Amazing Expedition of Arches and Canyonlands!!!
There are not enough positive words to say about our experience with Navtec. Our guide, Marcia, was beyond knowledgeable about the area and was so amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a friendlier person to show us the ins and outs of the area. we saw so many amazing sites and our guide really took her time and allowed us to explore the area and showed us all of the things that are off of the beaten tourist path. She gave us so many ideas for the next time we come back for things we want to do and see. There were so many more things that I could say about our experience, but I will just leave it at excellent, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly, highly recommend!! And if you have the chance to request Marcia, you won’t regret it!

        Wow! What a great day!
Fantastic experience. Ron was our tour guide and went the distance to create a great day. Can't thank him enough. My advice, bottom line: Just do it. Pull the trigger and sign up. You'll be glad for it. I was traveling through with limited time in the Moab area so decided to rely on a tour to get the best experience for both Arches and Canyonlands. I would not have seen the incredible places Ron took us without being on that tour. All the tour guides do their best to provide great experiences. The full day tour that I purchased provides lunch, plenty of water refills and lots of good snacks. To have someone else do the driving and show you around while you focus on the sights and take all the pictures your camera can manage. Wear good walking/trail shoes, a hat, and bring your personal water bottle for refills.

Incredible Day on the White Rim Road!!
My wife and I did this expedition in late October of 2024 and it was absolutely incredible. From start to finish, everything was perfect. I initially considered renting a 4x4 and driving the road myself. After taking the tour, I'm glad I let the professionals handle it. If you are not an experienced off-road driver, don't do it. Spend your time enjoying the ride and taking in the sights instead. Our guide Seth was friendly, a responsible and highly capable driver, incredibly knowledgeable about the area, a great conversationalist, and more than willing to take as many photos as we might request (hint: It was more than a few!). You will see so much on this tour and the day will just blow by. Some examples: 1. Petroglyphs 2. Jug Handle Arch 3. Thelma & Louise Point 4. Musselman Arch 5. Lathrop Canyon 6. White Rim Road 7. Shafer Trail Road There is SO much to see here, and all of it is beautiful. We took literally hundreds of photos. We even got lucky enough to run into a small group of Bighorn Sheep grazing just beside the road. Even the lunch was fantastic. We had a chicken wrap, which was cold and delicious, along with fruit and a small dessert, next to the Colorado River in Lathrop Canyon. Navtec is very mindful of safety and the needs of passengers. There were plenty of bathroom breaks, and snacks and water were readily available at all times. Our guide Seth was trained in remote medical emergency procedures, and the 4x4 was equipped with spare tire, medical kit and other emergency supplies should we need them (we didn't). We wrapped up the day with a drive up the Shafer Trail Road. You can see this road from the top down at the Canyonlands visitor center. It was a completely different experience driving up it. This tour was unquestionably a highlight of our trip to Arches and Canyonlands (and we had a LOT of great experiences). Navtec was highly professional and our guide Seth was exceptional. I cannot recommend this tour enough! Mike

        Mike was awesome!!!
We had an incredible experience with Mike as our canyoneering guide! He was fantastic with our 6-year-old daughter, making her feel safe and excited throughout the adventure. His wealth of knowledge about the area added depth to the experience, and he was always focused on safety while ensuring we had a blast. Mike's fun personality made the day unforgettable for our family. Highly recommend him for anyone looking to explore canyoneering!

Great guide and great hidden views
We didn't know what to expect and it was AWESOME! Our diver and guide Andy was great! Very very knowledgeable about everything and had some really good BAD jokes. We were able to see some places that the average park goes doest get to see and the trail were full of exiting obstacles. If you want some real 4x4 experience and see some beautiful country highly recommend this company company. Want to come back and do Canyon Lands with them!

        Awesome new vistas
We had gone to Island in the Sky with an audio tour the day before. This was even better. Driving into the back country over insanely rough roads opened up a vast wilderness of rock formations and grasslands we could never have seen on our own. Charlotte, our guide, was a great driver and a fount of information on geology, flora and fauna.

Excellent tour with Seth! Off road trip to places we would never have seen on our own. Seth was very knowledgeable and told us all about the geology, stopped at multiple sites and took photos. Great experience!!

        Awesome Tour!!
We took the Canyonlands half day tour from Moab through Navtec Expeditions on 10/22/24. Our tour group size was 5 and Navtec provided pickup and drop off at our hotel. Our tour guide was Cody. Cody was an excellent tour guide! He was very personable, passionate, and knowledgeable of the history and facts of the Canyonlands area, as he spends personal time there as well as conducting tours. I highly recommend this tour for seeing the Canyonlands, as we took a back country route that provided unique perspective. The scenery was astounding and the overall experience very enjoyable. A memory maker!

        Fun, scenic float trip!
The views were amazing and so was our guide, Turner. He was so knowledgeable and made everyone feel comfortable. The trip was about 3 hours, with a stop for lunch which Turner prepared for us. Various sandwiches, chips, drinks and cookies. It was hot so wear a hat, sunscreen & take water. We did get wet but dried off pretty quick. Would highly recommend!

        Calm Water Tour was Gorgeous
My husband and I booked the calm water tour of the Colorado River. It was a beautiful fall day - warm and sunny. But the water levels were low so we opted not to do river rafting. We basically had a personal tour with Josh - we were the only ones this afternoon and they gave us the option to pay for the 3rd person so the trip would go (minimum # of guests). The tour max is 6. We did this mainly due to time constraints on our part - but it turned out to be wonderful. Josh was informative and friendly. He stopped at some great places along with river and gave us the history and importance of each. We also stopped for some great photo ops. We put in at Potash Rd (just beyond the Mine) and went about 14 miles up to the Dead Horse Canyon Overlook. It's just beautiful to see the views from the water after having hiked up on the rim at Dead Horse the day before. It was a beautiful way to spend the afternoon.

Really Fine Back Country Excursion With Knowledgeable Guides
We went with a group of friends on this tour, and we all had a blast. Our guides picked us up at our hotel, and we set out for the tour in several Land Cruisers. The tour is mostly through unpaved back country without the glitz and traffic of Arches (which is of course outstanding in its own right). The guides were very knowledgeable about the history, industry and geology of the area. They explained in excellent detail the petroglyphs, rock formations, arches, potash evaporation ponds, watercourses, and geography that we were seeing. A highlight of the journey for some, beyond the knowledge imparted and gained, was the experience of ascending some 1200 feet on the Schaefer Switchbacks on what for all appearances is a canyon wall. A big thank you to Blaine and his knowledgeable, careful and responsible crew. We would definitely recommend this excursion.

Fantastic adventure with memories that will last a lifetime.
Our family was traveling through Utah and made a quick change of plans to visit Moab. We stumbled on NAVTEC and gave them a call. The 4x4 Canyonlands tour was their recommendation for our 1 day stop in the area. When we arrived, the office was well prepared and the tour started on time. Seth was our families tour guide and he shared his passion for geology with us along the entire tour. It was like my kids had their own private geology tutor as they adventured the roads less traveled. I'm not sure any of us will ever look at rocks, dirt, mountains or cliffs the same. Seth shared the history of the areas ancient civilizations, pioneers to the current legends. The views were incredible. He also gave us a few 'choose your own adventure' type options. Seth was a fantastic guide, Navtec was well organized and the adventure was one we'll remember for a lifetime.

Took the 1/2 day tour to Canyonlands on October 14, 2024. Our guide was Greg. He was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. So glad we took this tour instead of driving ourselves. Highly recommend this tour and ask for Greg as your guide.

The guides - Jason and Joe were fantastic!!! They not only showed us the usual sites (arches, windows, etc), but they also provided history to explain the formation of the terrain, the colors, and the inhabitants of the land from prehistoric through current times. Because the tour started late, we actually were able to witness the sunsetting over the national park and glimpses of the pink color across the La Sal mountains. I highly recommend this tour to anyone especially with Jason and Joe. They are very experienced at what they do to include driving across very challenging terrain...and entertaining as well. :) We all enjoyed both of them tremendously.

Viewed sites off the beaten trail but the ride was like being in a washing machine. Guide David was superb, he kept us safe as our 4x4 climbed rutted hills and inched down 30% grades. It was worth it and I highly recommend it.

It's hard to review this, as we did not go on it. I would like to leave a review of the company itself. About a week before my trip, I began looking into a tour in Moab. This company had some of the highest reviews, so I contacted them about a possible teacher discount; they said they did not offer one, but to look into other possible discounts. I found a free coupon code and entered it into their site (a tab for coupon codes). It worked! I signed all the forms and was ready to go. The day before my trip, I began getting emails/texts and phone calls asking for my remaining balance. I let them know that from my end, everything was complete. They said no, that I must pay the full balance. I sent screenshots of the confirmation and an email from Kim at NAVTEC showing that I had been encouraged to look for discounts. They said, "We do not accept free coupons or comply with any third party coupons." They said that unless I paid in full, the tour was cancelled. So even though there was nothing on their site showing they prohibited this, and even though I was able to book it this way, they said no. I offered to pay 1/2, as I know they are a company and need to make a profit. Again they said all or nothing. We went back and forth on this topic for several texts messages and they even acknowledged that this was not great, as I was only in Moab for one day from Alabama with my two little boys, but they would not budge. The last text was very patronizing, letting me know that I could easily do the Arches on my own with my kids. I know I can do it on my own, I've been a single mom for 4 year and Can do it. I was hoping for someone else to drive us/tell us about the Arches.
We did have an amazing trip on our own, but I am deeply disappointed in this company. If they do not accept coupon codes, it should not be an option. Even with my compromising and offering to pay 1/2 they would not budge.

It would be exceptionally helpful and to me unforgiveable not to say at the Arches Park National website that they allow use of your National Park Pass but what no one tells you is that in addition to that pass that gets you into any national park for free is that you also need a " timed entry ticket". It gives you a set time to enter the park. The line of cars to get in is awful, over an hour. While we waited to get in, I looked at the park's website and while they stress you need to do the timed entry ticket they never, ever, not once, say your national park pass alone will not get you in. They say you can use it but leave out the important part. The park ranger who greeted us and let us know we could not enter could not have been nicer but couldn't they post that you needed both passes to get in? How about a sign at the entrance where there is a very long line of cars waiting? We had just visited the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce National Park where none of this was an issue. The park is small and has problems but they should tell people on the website and with a sign at the entrance. No other park we have been to does this, We were so, so disappointed.

We went on two 4x4 tours. First with Blaine in Arches and second with Mike in Canyonlands. Both were excellent for very different reasons. Both took us in the back way which avoided lines and crowds and gave us an outstanding way into the parks which would have had long wait times or been shut down (Arches because of overcrowding) otherwise.

      Arches
Blaine took us on an excellent tour after picking up us at the hotel. He gauged our appetite for adventure and bumpiness and brought us up stone staircases in the 4 x 4 safely and enjoyably. He showed us and explained both dinosaur fossils, flora and fauna and it was obvious he enjoyed the outdoors and his work. He took us to spot where there were no (zero) other people explained the area and then stood back for us to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature in our own way and at our leisure. He was great.

      Canyonlands
Again we were met at our hotel but this time by Mike. Mike is a character. He mainly does rappelling and overnight camping trips. He took us on winding, switchbacks that appeared harrowing but he did it safely and again knew how to navigate the roads and land safely. He knew the area well and explained the rock formations and the parts of the park we went to. Mike also enjoyed his work and the outdoors.

I would recommend this tour company for Moab and while they were not inexpensive they were competitively priced and absolutely worth it.

Based on the two guides I want to go to a staff meeting at NavTec because I bet it’s a riot.

My 8 year old son and I did an afternoon trip with Tristan in late November to Arches. It was truly one of the best days we’ve had in recent memory and one of our favorite adventures in Moab. Tristan was incredibly patient and gracious with my 8 year old’s barrage of questions and jokes, and he did a fantastic job engaging my kid in the amazing nature and beauty of Arches. The trip was educational and fun, and never once did we feel rushed. We loved the dinosaur tracks and the short hikes to Eye of the Whale and Skyline arches. My California kid was fascinated by all of the patches of snow throughout the park and the pockets of ice in the shadow of the arches. Tristan matched my son’s enthusiasm with kindness and positive energy, even helping him to find a patch of ice he could crack at the end of the trip. My kid generally hates long car rides, but Tristan’s friendly banter and sharing of his wide scientific knowledge made the entire day a blast. My eight year old literally skipped to Tristan’s jeep at the end of the day because he was having so much fun.

Tristan made great recommendations that we followed up on during the subsequent days of our visit: In addition to checking out Lin Ottinger’s impressive Moab Rock Shop for the free dinosaur bone and sliding down the massive red sand dunes across from the park, we went back to Arches on our own to do the Landscape Arch trail and to check out the windows sections. We also went back to the beautiful La Sal Mountains viewpoint at sunset. All of these were great recommendations from Tristan.

Arches is easy to drive through on your own to see many spectacular sites, but we are so glad we started our visit off-roading through the back entrance with Tristan. We loved the silence (even hearing the beating of a raven’s wings!) and experiencing the park without the crowds. We also learned so much from our afternoon with Tristan that gave us helpful perspectives for the rest of our time in Moab! I would heartily recommend this tour with Navtec, and if you have kids, definitely ask for Tristan. We couldn’t have asked for a kinder, more patient guide! (Tristan, if you read this, don’t miss Point Lobos State Park for the amazing lichen if you make it out to California again!) Thank you from a grateful mom!

David , our tour guide was so skilled and cautious driving the 4x4 and he was familiar with the area like the palm of his hand!
This park was our favorite of the 5 National Parks we visited. Part of the reason was because our guide, took us to spots we never could have found on our own.
It was like a museum of art with impressive and majestic stones made by Mother Nature.
Highly recommend this company. Having a tour guide makes a huge difference.
      It was worth every penny!!!

Can’t say enough about this half day tour. Our guide, Shaggy, was phenomenal - exceptionally knowledgeable about everything from the living dirt to the sky, plants, geology, history, and gave some great local restaurant recs as well! He went out of his way to make it fun for the entire group (from 4 and 6 yrs old to 40!). We got to see most of the park, do some fun off-roading, see dinosaur prints, and hike to tower arch! It was a great way to see and do a lot in a short period of time.

It was an extraordinary experience through the back roads of the park. Dave was a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable in all things geological, archeological, botanical, and biological! He really brought the landscape to life and helped picture for us how this incredible landscape came to be and how it is today. Can’t say enough about how wonderful he made the experience for us.
