Great Way to Start a Food Tour
Definitely got more than expected. Started off at the south gate in Chinatown and proceeded to a local park where we ate Korean "meat buns" - delicious and surprisingly sweet to some degree. Our guide was a local writer who provided many fascinating bit of trivia on our four hour walk through the two districts, ending in North Beach/Little Italy. Along the way we sampled dim sum, chocolates, Chinese entrees, tea-tasting from a true expert, grilled sandwiches and finally wine and pizza. Don't eat before this tour or you'll definitely be stuffed by the end! Definitely recommend for those foodies wanting a quick taste of the local cuisine - well worth the money, as you'd spend much experiencing all these treats independently.

    Delicious and authentic!
We had a wonderful time on this trip! Isabelle was a wealth of local information and fun stories. We read the reviews so we knew that it would be a 4 hour tour and we'd eat a lot. At first it seemed like we wouldn't be filled up, but with so many stops with something to eat at each one, it added up and we were stuffed by the end. Highly recommend this tour!

    Fun and informative
Our guide Doug was so knowledgeable and entertaining. It was a great quick view of vibrant neighborhoods and I’d highly recommend this for people who don’t have much time in town OR for those who are staying several days and can take this on your first day. We will definitely be going back to a few places.

Time so well spent that your foodie soul was quite fulfilled
So well worth the time - time was so well spent with Doug. I was stunned how Doug maximized our time with great care, quality and eating! Oh the eating as I was starving when we started and my soul was satisfied in the end. I love trying new places and have been to SF Chinatown before so I was curious. Curiosity settled and I learned a lot more about the area than before. Doug was a great storyteller and perspective sharing. Highly recommend from a Native

    Great experience for the family
We loved our Chinatown and North Beach walking tour. My family enjoyed all th walking history and of course- the food. The time in China Town was our favorite piece and if you have less time I would recommend doing at least that tour. Our tour guide was a knowledgable and interesting character that was informative and patient with our group. The tea tasting is something we are still talking about weeks later-a truly unique experience. Some people in our group seemed a little rushed to make it to their evening plans- so give yourself enough time surrounding your tour. Come with an empty belly and your curiosity! I would recommend this tour, and even go on it again!

Excellent tour - don't eat before going on it
Great tour! It exceeded my expectations. Our tour guide, Doug, was fantastic. He was full of information about the area. I learned a lot about the history of San Francisco. The tour was a great summary of the culture, people, and food in the Chinatown and North Beach areas. We sampled a wide variety of different foods from eight shops and restaurants - and even got a glass of wine at our final stop. These were not small samples either. The was more food than our group could eat. Easily one of the best food tours I've ever been on anywhere.

Fantastic experience. Brian went over and above from all perspectives. Overdelivered. Food was fantastic and the local knowledge second to none.

Perfect day of friends, food and fun!
It was a beautiful day in SF and Brian was the perfect guide. He was knowledgeable, funny, welcoming and accommodating. There were stops not in the description (additional pizza, shirt shop, focaccia sandwiches, churches, etc). If there’s a place that interests you, he will take a little detour. So you can pop in. And you definitely eat plenty so come hungry. I’ve lived in the city for years and there were places and history that I didn’t know about so it’s good for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend!

Scott was extremely knowledgeable about SF history and fun to walk around with. It was a great way to safely see the city and try some good Asian and Italian food!

A food tour that lives up to its promise and more
We chose this tour based on a chef's recommendation. It was fabulous. Isabella, our guide, was knowledgeable about the city (which she clearly loves), the culture, and the foods. In addition to all the landmarks we learned about, she took us by a parade in Chinatown and a man playing an erhu (beautiful). We even found Zoltar, for Tom Hanks fans! We enjoyed so many delicious treats: pork buns, moon cakes, a sit down Chinese dinner which included Peking duck, cannoli, and much more. The evening ended with another sit down dinner of pizza and wine. The pizza was the only disappointment - it was good, but not great. At this point, Isabella left us (giving us another treat before going), so that we could stay as long as we preferred. We sat for awhile chatting with a delightful couple, but others could feel free to leave as needed, which was nice. We truly enjoyed every moment of this tour.

Nice walking tour of North Beach (aka Little Italy)
Doug led a very nice tour. We have been on several walking tours of SF and this one was pretty good. Doug had some solid behind the scenes info because he lives in the neighborhood. Definitely would recommend. Come hungry!

    Yum!
We had a great time with Isabella on this food tour. Lots of walking but plenty of food and rest. Isabella's knowledge of the area was extensive. She was professional and fun. The food was interesting and delicious!!

We had an amazing tour with Isabelle! So much food (half a pork sandwich, moon cake, onion roll, potstickers, fortune cookie, Peking duck & green beans, etc.) My favorite was tea tasting. Isabelle provided so much historical context and was an amazing guide. She lso made sure to accomodate members of our group that didn't eat pork or beef.

If you’re looking for a great introduction to the food, culture, and history of San Francisco’s Chinatown then look no further. This was 3.5 hours so we’ll spent and in terms of value for money a 11 out of 10. Brian was a super (!!) tour guide using facts and humor to craft an excellent narrative for the tour (Many thanks!). Make sure you go hungry because you’ll be well fed - we had rolls, dim sum, noodles, pot stickers, moon cake and Peking duck.

The piece de resistance to the tour was our last stop at Vital Tea-Leaf for a tasting of 6 different teas. The explanations about the teas’ benefits, and their tastes, were great, but 90+ year-old “Uncle (Mad Dog) G” provided the best sales pitch and comedy show ever! (Keep going Uncle!)

My only comment on the content of the tour is that the tour guide could add a few extra comments about how all the street art reflects the culture and history of Chinatown.

I look forward to trying some of their other “Local Tastes of the City Tours!”

Such a fun way to see San Francisco! We had a great time on our walking food tour with Isabella. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide - thoughtful, knowledgeable, funny. Isabella taught us so much about the history and people of Chinatown while feeding us yummy food along the way. Best pork buns ever, fun fortune cookie factory, oldest bakery in Chinatown were just a few of our stops. Would definitely recommend this outing for anyone wanting to dig a little deeper than just passing through this fascinating part of the city.

Well, that was fun! Love being a tourist in our own colorful, vibrant, endlessly fascinating City - particularly on a perfect day - what a treat! Our guide introduced us to a few gems that we have not found on our own numerous visits to Chinatown. Tea tasting was most educational with the very enthusiastic Mei, and the sneak-peak theater tour was a surprise. If you are familiar with basic Chinese food and culture, there are really no wow moments. But this is not intended to be a deep dive into Chinatown history. Still, there was enough info to spur additional research post tour. Recommended!

Brian is hands down the best tour guide ever (and I've been on dozens and dozens of tours in my life). Fun, engaging, knowledgeable and considerate. Walked and talked and ate our way through the history of Chinatown and it's obvious the store owners love and respect him greatly... they treat him like family and we became an extending of that family while visiting each place. Such a delightful experience.
A suggestion would be to indicate in the your description how much walking there will be... it was not as much as I was thinking for a 3 hour tour. It really only goes slowly around the compact area of Chinatown but not being familiar with the area, guests don't really know what to expect and may be hesitant to book a 3 hour walking tour thinking they will be walking for miles.
We loved everything about our tour with Brian and would highly recommend him and this tour to everyone!

We took the culinary walking tour of China town in San Francisco. Brian was our guide and he was informative, fun, and made the trip excellent. We enjoyed all of the history presented and some of the sidebars that only come with walking a city like San Francisco with a local like Brian. His unique flair added to the excitement to the tour. If you have an opportunity to book this tour, ask for Brian. You won’t regret it!

Our guide was SO knowledgeable and patient. We had two people with gluten intolerance on the tour and she was well prepared with food that they could enjoy. She was very charismatic and told a rich history of Chinatown that we never would’ve gotten otherwise. And the FOOD. Holy moly it was AMAZING, filling, and so so much. You will not be hungry afterwards. The food was so authentic and high quality. I would do his tour again. Our tour guide also deserves a raise, she rocked.

The tour was so wonderful! We stopped at five or six different restaurants and were able to try all the types of food that Chinatown had to offer. Our tour guide, Cynthia, was very knowledgeable and made the experience that much more enjoyable! She recommended several places to check out after the tour was over and not one of them disappointed. Will definitely recommend this to anyone looking to visit San Francisco and experience a bit of history and culture in Chinatown!

What a great way to see SF Chinatown and eat some of the best Chinese fare we’ve had. This was as much a food tour as a history tour, with Brian, our SF local, telling us all about the area, architecture, and cuisine and how it has all evolved and developed over time. And the tea tasting at the end was incomparable!!! Thanks Brian!

Good food, fun tidbits about Chinatown, we loved the mooncakes. The restaurant owners were engaging, especially the Vital Leaf tea host and the hand-folded fortune cookie people. Great for bringing out-of-town guests, but my friend and I are locals and we enjoyed the walking tour.
