EPIC rainy jungle kayak and hike- loved it!
Annie was our guide today for the Wailua River Kayak and hike to secret falls- EPIC! My husband and I are not avid kayakers or hikers and this was a little beyond our comfort zone- but we did it! Annie is definitely an expert guide with a passion for Kauai and the natural beauty of this gorgeous island. It poured rain the entire time down the river and hiking- but that made it more fun if that is even possible. I felt safe, at ease, and challenged and I would absolutely do this again!

      Incredible Customer Service and experience!
Exceptional. My daughters and I missed the tour due to getting over colds and we were offered a free full day SUP rental to enjoy the river and Sacred Falls hike on our own. It was super easy to navigate and owner John Fisher was beyond gracious with providing an alternative to the tour we missed. Thank you a million times over!!! Justin helped us get set up and made sure we had everything we needed. Such a positive experience and an unexpected gesture that we had not expected. And the river was phenomenal. The falls were breathtaking. The entire day was so beautiful, it was spiritual! Highly recommend!!

What a wonderful low-key day! From the sea hibiscus flowers floating on the river next to our kayak to the refreshing dip into an ancient sacred pool, not a single moment was wasted or regretted. If you are looking for a stress free activity which keeps you moving and restores your faith in nature, this is the trip for you.

      Dukes kayak water adventures
This is an active adventure that has much beauty along the way. Both the kayaking and hiking was excellent. There were a few streams you have to cross which required water shoes of some sort which we brought along for this expedition. The waterfall was beautiful. For the price we paid this is highly recommended.

      Old, broken kayaks
Our group was outfitted and I was left solo. The "guide" told me as the kayak was put in the water "that some guy broke the seat yesterday,", but I'd be okay. Actually, I was not. The foot rests were also broken so there was no way to leverage the stokes, and it made paddling doubly hard. Our "guide," Brian, was poor. He bypassed little kids and got far ahead of the group going and coming on the river. Do not recommend this tour or this company.

      Really fun adventure
This is a fun trip but be prepared. You trudge through mud for a while. Bring shoes that tie. No crocs, no river shoes, real shoes only. First you kayak 2 miles up the river in a 2 person kayak. nice little ride. Then you get off the kayak and hike 1.5 miles. Quite a bit is through the mud. Real wet mud. Then you get to the beautiful waterfall. Bring your waterproof camera. Fun stuff.

      DANGEROUS !!!!!
I took part in this trip 3 years ago and broke my leg on the very slippery rocks on the mountainside. I thought it was just me until I met a lady this year who had the same accident. There really needs to be ropes or handholds on the narrow walkway that is so slippery when wet

nice trip, could be made on your own
This is a nice trip, which consists of waiting for the guide to arrive from the previous trip, a ride to the marina where you board the kayaks, a paddle along the river and then a walk along an extremely muddy as it turned out, trail. Even though the guide was very nice, cheerful and accommodating, I felt like we would be better off just coming to the marina, renting kayaks on our own and doing the same thing. I did not check prices, but suspect it would be much cheaper.

      An amazing experience!!
We have been in Kauai in September 18 for our honeymoon. Unfortunately we found that Na Pali Coast closed because of the flooded road so we decided to do kayak through the wailua River and we chosed this company and it we nailed it!!! Brian is incredible, we couldn't stop laughing and we learnt so many things! We recommend them 100%. You won't regret it!

Awesome trip! Better pricing direct thru Dukes too!
Awesome trip! Brian was our guide and he was awesome! Funny guy that related well to our teens and little kids and had great stories and knows the area well! Memorable experience to say the least! Thanks Brian from your new Colorado friends! I would recommend wearing old tennis shoes you can toss after. People with water shoes were slipping like crazy. We all wore tennis shoes and it was perfect. Our 9 year old daughter rocked it, but would have been tough for a 6 year old though with the muddy and slippery trails.

I would like to say the tour was awesome! I recommend bringing a hiking stick because if there is any rain it becomes extremely muddy and slippery. Many people in our group slipped or fell. But, the online special they run you have to be careful. I called in before booking and mentioned the special but it was showing for full price. The person told me that our price amount will change if we get a certain number of people to book and would be reimbursed the difference. The day of the tour I saw I was charged the full amount when online it was showing the special price. My tour guide called in and spoke with the owner and I was told I would be reimbursed the difference. A Week later, I still was not reimbursed. I called in to ask about it and was talking to the owner who told me he never said that to my tour guide and what the person said to me on the phone prior to booking was wrong. I felt like I was told that just to get us to book right away instead of waiting for the price to drop. I said that is unfair to the people who book in the beginning and then the owner began to talk condescending to me. So if you book online and see that it is full price and was told you would still get the special price don't believe it. Wait until you see the price drop and then book.

Annie was a great guide for our 7 am kayak, hike, waterfall tour. She was very personable and spent time getting to know everyone on the tour during the kayaking and hiking. We highly recommend taking the 7 AM tour since this means your group will be the first ones to the waterfall so it is not crowded. This tour starts with a 45 minute 2-person kayaking on the beautiful river. After beaching the kayaks, we hiked through the jungle for a good 30 minutes to a beautiful waterfall to swim! Thank you to Annie for taking great photos with our phone for us! Part of the trail had elevated planks to walk on (one positive result of Covid); however, other parts of the trail was climbing through rocks, crossing streams, and muddy areas. We wore our Keen hiking sandals which provided great traction, excellent toe protection, and great for swimming in the waterfall. We also kept our cell phone in a special waterproof bag made for cell phones which was worth it. The tour does provide dry bags for you to use which was good for your lightweight jackets and snacks. We did not use bug spray, we put on sunscreen prior to leaving the dock, we wore hats and sunglasses with lanyards, we didn’t need our jackets; however, we did drink lots of water and needed our snack before hiking back along the trail and kayaking back to the start.
We are a couple over 55 who are used to bicycling 20-30 miles a day so this was a very doable hike and kayak for us. If you are someone who is not in good physical shape for your age, then you may want to rethink it. This was our favorite thing we did during our vacation on Kauai and we would highly recommend it! Remember to bring water, a snack, and wear good hiking shoes that can get wet and muddy and you will have a fantastic time in the most beautiful natural surroundings! Thanks Annie!!!

Brian was an outstanding tour guide. The kayak and hike were wonderful. The falls were spectacular. Brian told great stories the entire trip. Most importantly we had 9 and 11 year old kids, and he kept them entertained and gave extra special care to our youngest, as the trek is not easy. Highly recommended!

Myself, my husband and our 11 year old son did this tour and had a great time. The paddle wasn't difficult since the water was very calm but was a bit more strenuous when the wind was against us at times. The paddle is about 2 miles followed by a mile(ish) hike to the falls. We did the 7am tour and are grateful we did it early since the falls wasn't too packed when we got there. The way back we passed a lot of hikers and kayakers so I can only imagine how packed the falls gets as the day goes on. My son wore water shoes and my husband and I wore tennis shoes. Expect to get them wet from the few river crossings on the hike. We were grateful we had shoes on when we went into the waterfall area as well since it is pretty rocky. It was fun to climb on the rocks and go under/behind the falls. I almost didn't go in the falls but by son convinced me and I am glad I did. It was a pretty cool experience! The hike wasn't too muddy but I could imagine it would be if there was recent rainfall. The hike is more of a walk and is fairly level but sometimes a bit tactical with rocks and roots. It could be done by all ages for the most part. Bring some snacks to sit on the rocks at the falls and soak in the scenery while you eat. Our guide, Hawaiian Brian, was fun and very knowledgeable as he grew up on the island. I would recommend doing this with a guided tour like this rather than on your own. We came across a few groups that rented kayaks and didn't know where to stop with the kayaks and didn't know where the trail was. Plus the guides watch the rain gauges at the top of the mountain to know when it is safe to kayak and hike the area and know the escape route in the rare case of a flash flood.

The kayaking was easier on the way out. By the return trip, wind had picked up and required paddling into the wind. It was a good workout getting back to the starting point. The hiking portion was beautiful and rugged and required more effort than anticipated. At 70 years old, my husband and myself were the oldest ones in our group, and among the oldest of all the participants we encountered. Our guide, Brian, was entertaining and knowledgeable, as well as quite the photographer. We enjoyed this excursion and would recommend to all who love an adventurous outing.

What a fun adventure ! As others have said Brian is a great guide. Full of funny stories, songs and enthusiasm - Brian is so much better than the other guides we could hear explaining the sights. The other guides seemed to monotonously repeat the tour highlights but Brian made it fun. This tour was also less expensive than the others because you brought your own food and drink. The paddle and hike are strenuous and not suited to someone uncomfortable with slippery slopes, mud and a paddle 45 minutes each way. Brian also made it unnecessary for us to pull our phones out of the water proof bags. He shot dozens of great pictures for each couple then airdropped them to us at the conclusion.

Ok, my husband and I managed to turn a 1 mile kayak trip into 4 on the way to the hike by zigzagging from shore to shore. I would suggest discussing paddling techniques before if you have not done anything like this before. Maybe paddle length is what it is so you can't hit your partner with the paddle...lol. (We did much better on the return trip and are still married.). Hike was not as muddy as we had heard and that was just fine. Hardest part of the hike is the area closest to the falls. Worth the effort but someone might have to bribe me with drinks to do it again.

My husband and I went on the 5 hour Kayak, Hike and Secret Falls tour. Maana was our guide, and he did a great job explaining how to kayak, keeping our group of 12 safe, and pointing out interesting things along the way. He even entertained us with is ukulele on the trail! The kayaking was fairly easy, but assumed some previous experience. The trail was flat, through some grasslands and forests and ended at the falls. There were several other groups there, but there was plenty of space to settle in, eat your lunch and swim if you wanted to. The water was clean and comfortably cool. We then hiked and kayaked back the same way we came. It was a great overall event, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a fun outdoor adventure.

This was one of the best things we did in Kauai on our family vacation. You start off by kayaking up the river about 45 minutes. You then dock your kayak and start off on the 1 mile hike as you make your way to the waterfall. You do trek through some mud and have to cross a stream, but the hike was relatively easy! You end up at a beautiful waterfall where you can eat your picnic lunch and swim!

We would highly recommend wearing water shoes with some traction/grips on the bottom (not the classic pull on, really thin ones). We ordered some for $30 a pair off of Amazon and wore them the whole way! Since you are stepping in mud, little puddles, and crossing a rocky stream, it was so much easier and more comfortable then wearing soaking wet running shoes and socks!

Our guide Kyle was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about all the plants and birds as we made our way through the tour. He even let us get up close with some of his bird friends as he fed them! When we got to the waterfall, Kyle made sure he helped all of the couples and families get group photos before we settled in for our lunch! During the whole tour Kyle was so friendly - asking people about where they are from and sharing some of his own stories.

This tour was amazing and if we ever come back to Kauai, we would do it again in a heartbeat! Thanks Kyle - from the Meyer Family (Toronto, Canada)

I went on the tour with my 7-year old son. Our guide, Brian, was very friendly and energetic. He told fun stories that kept the kids (there was another 7 year old in our party) engaged and entertained. The waterfall is majestic and worth the short (and muddy) hike. After the trip, Brian used his personal time to send me photos he had taken of us, which I greatly appreciated. Would definitely do this again.
