If you are looking for a guide to show you around this beautiful island, look no further. You will not find a more kind, compassionate, or knowledgeable guide than Ricardo (and his team) because his family has been showing people around Madeira for years. Nature Connections' communication regarding our tour was excellent. I could tell from the moment he greeted my family of 10, while he picked us up from our hotel in their adorable 4x4 jeeps, that we were going to have a wonderful day. He then drove us through Funchal (bringing us along one of the old roads, to show us just how much Madeira, and its infrastructure, has changed in the last 15-20 years). We stopped at a few viewpoints along our drive to take photos, and throughout he explained everything and anything he could about the island. We even passed one of his family members' houses as we drove :) We then arrived at our hike and began our trek. My parents are in their early 70s and became about a third of the way into hike, so his assistant for the day (Maria) headed back with my family, which was incredibly kind. The hike was gorgeous (São Lourenço) and Ricardo also captured our hike with a newer camera he was testing out. After our trip, he sent us a video of the highlights of our day! If my family ever makes it back to Madeira I will be sure to book another experience with Nature Connections, as they were the best guides we had our entire trip!

For a second year running I have again experienced an amazing tour experience with Ricardo as my husband wanted to see the island this year with me. We all had a great time and was also nice to see some different sights to last year's tour. I Loved the small Levada walk and the birds landing on my hand was a special moment that and so pleased we were able to do this walk with spectacular scenery to look at! If you are reading this review considering a tour guide to show you beautiful Maderia, I cannot urge you enough please do not hesitate booking Nature Connections as you will be missing a professionally and safely run tour with an amazing guide bursting with knowledge. Ricardo is so courteous and passionate about nature and the island and you will feel so amazed at the places he drives you to! We took the West and Northwest tour with Ricardo. A very prompt collection close to our hotel, Ricardo was very polite, knowledgeable and a safe driver for our open top jeep tour. I would definitely recommend this tour, a good pace and an opportunity to visit places that would be difficult to get to without your own car. We had hoped to book another tour but it was full, so maybe next time.

We had a fantastic day with Maria as our guide. From the moment she arrived to collect us she made us feel really special. She was very informative, caring and made our day so enjoyable. Maria is a lovely person and I don’t know how she managed some of those narrow lanes and bumpy terrain but we felt very safe with her and she took great care of us. She took us to a restaurant for our lunch and made sure we had a table before leaving us. We were taken to some lovely places and we have lots of photos of an extremely enjoyable day. There were only four of us in the 4x4 which made it a very personal service and we highly recommend Nature Connection Tours.

Ricardo was the perfect guide. He is so knowledgeable about Madeira and imparted that knowledge in a friendly and humorous way, fielding our barrage of questions in a conversational manner. We toured the west and north of the island with rain pouring down for the most part, but we still managed to see all the sights on our list. Our guide, Marie was great. The jeep was comfortable and the scenery amazing. The four wheel drive got us to places a bus or car couldn’t. Scenery was amazing and would highly recommend.

I highly recommend this tour. Ricardo is a very knowledgeable, organized, and professional guide. He is a good driver, and it felt very safe to travel with him. He communicated clearly beforehand and provided the exact pin for the meeting point. We got to see many beautiful places and different parts of the island. He was calm and empathetic. He stopped if we wanted to photograph something and showed us several highlights of the island. The route was well-planned. We got to drive on some of the island’s old roads, which was fun. He knows a lot about the island, both its history and present, and answered all of our questions. Simply a fantastic day!

We were picked up promptly from our hotel and greeted with a huge Madeiran welcome by our guide for the day Joao. He explained the outline of the day to us very clearly. He and Ricardo in the other jeep were in contact during the day, ensuring that we were able to make the best choices depending upon the weather (which was variable but really ended up being better than anyone could have hoped for). It was so clear that Joao was proud to share his island with us and his knowledge was excellent. We travelled rarely used roads and also had some fun off road too. We really feel that we had a comprehensive tour of the East/North East and learned a lot. Thank you Joao for such a lovely day and Ricardo it was so lovely to meet you too. If our jeep buddies read this Tomas and Suzanna it was great to spend the day in your company too. Would highly recommend this company - don’t hesitate to book them.

This tour included many of the "must-see" attractions of the west and northwest of Madeira but what made it more special was the way it was conducted by Nature Connection Tours and our guide Ricardo. Ricardo's experience in this role brought with it a wealth of information. The tour took us through some "off the beaten track" roads which made it even more interesting and thrilling. The booking experience was flawless and communication re meeting points and times was shared promptly. Ricardo was constantly in touch with the weather predictions and changes and it seemed that good weather followed us everywhere...or did we follow IT? I would recommend this company, guide and tour without hesitation.

This tour includes many of the "must-see" sites of Madeira. What made it special was the way it was done by Nature Connection Tours and especially our guide Joao. NCT was in touch with the changes in the weather and quickly included additional stops to compensate for one that we would miss because of bad weather in that area. The booking experience was seamless, and communication re meeting points and times was on point. The tour included some off-road adventures, and used some roads "less traveled" which added interest and included information we would not otherwise have encountered. Joao's personality made it even more special with his many stories and lots of information. Lots of fun while maintaining safety protocols and professionalism. This really rates as one of my all time favourite tours - everything about it was exceptionally organized. The guide, Ricardo, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate to share insights into all aspects of Madeira. The trip was really comfortable in the jeep - and despite some very difficult off-road routes I had full confidence in his driving skills!
