- 1Take a self-guided Tour and discover awesome coastal views and a quirky history of the lighthouse keepers. Find out about the Shipwreck Coast and the importance of lighthouses to keeping ships safe. We have an awesome collection of historical local photographs that complements the tour and depicts what life was like in the area when the lighthouse was permanently manned. The tour then enters the lantern room and then out onto the balcony for the spectacular 360 degree views of the Great Ocean Road, Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary and the Otways.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- RustyHTims590 contributionsAmazingAs the area was quite crowded we drove up to the Split Point Lighthouse just checking it out on the outside which we still found quite amazing.Written 11 August 2024
- normanp3110 contributionsVery good - worth a visit.Time to push further South. Firstly visiting Airley’s Inlet, where we stopped at the Eagle Rock lookout and visited the Split Point Lighthouse. This actually turned out to be very good and we spent quite some time looking around.Written 29 April 2024
- rochelleforster0 contributionsAmazing viewsWe parked the car in the lot and then walked up a fairly steep sandy road to gorgeous lookouts (there is a place by the tour operator to avoid the uphill walk but we did not know this). The just looked at the lighthouse from the outside and walked to the 2 lookout points up the hill. There is a fabulous viewWritten 7 April 2024
- AndreaBR70 contributionsWatch out for Parking Inspector/Parking Officer!Lovely little place but very busy. You are signposted to a small car park and on one side you can clearly see "no stopping" signs. On the other side it is easy to assume you can park, given that is where the signs lead you but there is one sign that can easily be obstructed as you drive into the car park. This happened to me with a high sided vehicle parked blocking the one sign and I incurred a $192 fine which spoilt our visit and made it a very expensive stop off. When we returned in disbelief there were 5 more cars who had made the same mistake and thanked us for pointing the sign out to them. So if busy skip the visit as not worth the hassle of parking in poorly signed areas and getting a ticket - I am sure this car park is a main income stream for the council!!Written 10 January 2024
- 303lelanh0 contributionsGreat stop on the great ocean roadGreat little stop on the "The Great Ocean Road", beautiful view from the top and a good bit of history of lighthouses and the part this one played in history. The gentleman at the top gave alot of good info about how this lighthouse was built, worked and how it helped save ships from disaster.Written 19 December 2023
- tiger_n_ox0 contributionsMust do if visiting nearbyAmazing views, special history, well maintained, super friendly staff. $10 entree per person. There are 136 steps to the top and what a view! Great information posters inside. If you’re scared of heights maybe not for you. Parking was ok but we went midweek and it didn’t seem that busy. Walk past the Tea house on way to the lighthouse. Walk to the lookout nearby also lovely.Written 6 December 2023
- StewartsVacation0 contributionsSpectacular viewsIt was the friendly and very knowledgable ladies (one stationed at the base of the light house and one at the top) who made this visit interesting and worthwhile. Besides, of course, the amazing views! Entry was very reasonably priced at $10 per person. There were 136 stairs to the top. We enjoyed learning about the history of the lighthouse. There are some viewing platforms at the foot of the lighthouse, but the views are nowhere near as spectacular. We turned off the Great Ocean Road onto Inlet Crescent and kept left around the lake. Then turned left onto Lighthouse Road and left again at the top where there was a large area for parking. The walk from the car park along Federal Street to the lighthouse is reasonably level. En route is the Lighthouse Tearoom.Written 5 April 2023
- 216paulq0 contributionsLighthouse viewingWe visited this lighthouse via a private tour (see my review via my profile). Excellent example of an Australian lighthouse. Some interesting history behind it. Good lookout points.Written 23 December 2022
- Urns3880 contributionsWorth a VisitAbsolute muat for lighthouse lovers. Didn't pay the $10 to go up but the view around is already spectacular enough. Didn't realise you could drive almost all the way up. Stumbled upon a nice little tea house on one side of the access road but not quite sure how to get there.Written 12 October 2022
- agoh690 contributionsWorth a stop !Not sure why the split point lighthouse becomes a company of tours. Anyway, we came here as first stop when landed from plane. Long drive from Melbourne toward Apollo bay. Stop by this lighthouse to have some pictures taken. A short walk from the carpark and mostly closed alrinf 3pm. Walk around to the surrounding park to have a great biew of the ocean. Nice contrasting the sky, ocean and park! Lovely place for you to spend 45mins to hike around.Written 10 September 2022
- Niccers160 contributionsGreat photo opportunityVisited the lighthouse for a photo opportunity. Even though we didn’t tour the lighthouse, which only costs $10 anyway, we felt it was a must stop. Lighthouse is stunning and has great views and photo opportunities. The foreshore is equally as stunning too!Written 10 August 2022
- Tony W0 contributionsA lighthouse to visitIf you like visiting lighthouses then this is one to not miss. Only about a 100 metre walk from the carpark at the bottom of the hill. When you get up there you are provided with spectacular views of the coast as well as a very well maintained lighthouse. Tours are available but it was closed when we arrived.Written 24 December 2021
- PlanetOz0 contributionsScenic ViewsMy wife and I stopped here for a lengthy coastal walk during our drive from Melbourne to Lorne for a holiday. There are various walking tracks to choose from and we did a few of them of enjoy the scenic views, the sunshine and get some physical exercise at the same time.Written 25 November 2021
- emparry110 contributionsHave you ever ever felt like thisFan of the show Round the twist then this lighthouse is for you. 100meter walk from the carpark to the light house but good views of the coastWritten 1 November 2021

We drove there to see the lighthouse and parked the car inside the designated "PARKING" area for about 90 minutes, along with many other cars. Upon returning, all the cars on that side had a parking ticket, $192 !!!! The signage of 'no stopping' is not really expected in the area which has a 'PARKING' sign at the entrance. That side of the parking can easily be closed for cars!!!!!!

Thank you for the review and we are sorry to hear you had a negative experience with parking. Split Point Lighthouse Tours are not responsible for the parking in the area as that is a matter for the Surf Coast Shire.

An absolutely amazing experience! We went along with childhood memories of Round The Twist, but also just wanted the amazing experience of climbing a lighthouse. We were given an introduction and some great history when we arrived, and then we headed up to the top. It's quite a decent walk up, but plenty of great information to stop and read along the way.
The view from the top is quite something else though. We could've spent ages up there. There's a guide at the top to help control the amount of people out on the viewing area at any one time - we were able to be out there for quite a while, but I could see this could get busy during peak seasons.
Like a few people mentioned, it does cost a reasonable amount for a short visit. But knowing the money goes back into helping preserve the lighthouse makes it a whole lot more palatable. We also didn't find the parking a problem at all - the signs were pretty clear we felt, and there was quite a bit of parking on the eastern side of the lighthouse.

There was one guide at the top of the lighthouse and one at the bottom. Both were very willing to answer questions and provide information about the lighthouse and area.

What a fantastic experience to climb this fabulous lighthouse. It is not a Strenuous climb- you just need to pace yourself- but when you get to the top you are rewarded with the best views imaginable. Highly recommend this activity.
