Begin with pickup by at the port, where you’ll learn about local history, and see a hotel that was once the home of a notorious Nicaraguan dictator. Continue to a nearby church, then climb to the hilltop statue of Cristo de la Misericordia. You’ll climb the almost 100 stairs to the statue, and a moderate fitness level is required.
Leave the town behind at Las Nubes Adventure Park, heading into the trees on a 15-minute, 1.5-mile (2.4-km.) ATV ride to an overlook with views of the Pacific Ocean and Lake Nicaragua. Enjoy an hour of free time at the summit, and try local beer and rum (own expense) in a Wi-Fi equipped café. If you're feeling adventurous, perhaps try some of the park's other activities, such as the canopy tour or the Tarzan swing (at own expense).
The final stop of the day is Pelican Eyes Resort and Spa, where you’ll arrive to a complimentary welcome cocktail and access to the pool. The tour concludes at the spa, where you could enjoy a bar or restaurant (own expense). A free shuttle is provided for the return trip to San Juan del Sur and the port.
Optional canopy upgrade: Select the canopy option when booking to experience the Las Nubes Adventure Park zipline course, which has 10 platforms, seven ziplines, and one inclined rappel.
