About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 680rashmik0 contributionsMemorable and interesting solo tourWent on a tailored tea heritage trip in Darjeeling and Assam, understanding the tea industry. This is an emerging area of tourism in India, with some established facilities for tourists and others that are more of an adjunct to tea growing and production. Overall a very insightful 10 days - as a solo traveller I had the opportunity to have some tailored experiences such as trying local foods and seasonal produce, and benefit from the local knowledge of this company. Although I was travelling during the off-season when many tourist spots and activities were closed (e.g. Kaziranga National Park was closed due to monsoon flooding) there was still plenty to see and appreciate about the northeast region, as well as less traffic and queues. Definitely a company to work with who will apply their local knowledge and research to tailor experiences to make your trip interesting and memorable. Not the cheapest option if you have a very limited budget but the cost is demonstrably worth it.Written 16 August 2024
- Nachi_the_great0 contributionsGreat company if you are looking to explore North East IndiaEntire itinerary was meticulously planned with finest eye for detail as there were senior citizens aged 70+ years as well as children as young as 5 years. The hotel bookings were thoughtfully booked that was suitable for all and from day 1 till we reached back home, we were always checked if everything was ok. The team puts in lots and lots of efforts and they are passionate about delivering travel experiences. I would surely book next trips with this company and certainly this is not a paid review :)Written 16 April 2024
- mekala60 contributionsIndia in a new lightSuch an amazing experiment with "The Unexplored", they took care of us (3 women travelling in the north of India) everyday and allowed us to discover the area without any troubles or misguidances. Driver and guide were amazing and really helpful, all the places that we suggested have been visited and even some more places which were truly amazing. Some little improvements could be done on the daily organisation during the trip but otherwise I would definitely recommend it to everyone who wish to explore that part of India!Written 9 March 2024
- F9543VQjessicam0 contributionsUnforgettable private tripOverall trip in Meghalaya was amazing, Rajeev took time to create our itinerary including our wishlist spots as well as adding spots and activities with his expertise while still meeting our requirements. There is room for small improvements here and there but this lifetime experience is unforgettable and we will definitely go with The Unexplored to discover more states of North East of India.Written 24 February 2024
- SudhakarSilveru0 contributions7N/8D Arunachal trip with the UnexploredWe are a group of nine including three kids under 12yrs. Rajeev and the unexplored team planned the itinerary well, arranged a Tempo traveller and the ILP and Bumla pass permits. The driver Kailash is courteous, suggested the hotels for lunch, knows the locations well. Unexplored team was flexible to add/remove the attractions throughout the trip. Rajeev helped us with the flight booking as well though it is not a standard service they offer. This saved us few thousands. They gave us clear instructions of what to bring. Good accommodations (clean, safe) and tasty food at homestay. Especially the homestay experience was pleasant. The host at Sangti valley took us to Kiwi orchard and the host at Bomdila homestay surprised us with his singing and Apple plants on terrace. Sangti valley homestay has 360 views of the mountains, and the rooms are twice the size of the standard hotel room. We stayed at an Eco camp site inside Tea Garden at Kaziranga. A walk in the morning fog was a pleasant experience. The cultural show in the evening at the Orchid Park from 6.30pm was simply superb and must attend. Rajeev was in touch with us throughout the duration. He helped book the Alfresco cruise in Guwahati at discounted price. Rajeev also introduced us to a priest at Kamakhya temple so we could finish the Darshan quickly. He met us for Lunch, and he is knowledgeable of the Northeast, the history, people, and the culture. We had a memorable trip to Arunachal Pradesh. I do recommend "The Unexplored" to anyone planning to visit Northeast Indian states.Written 26 October 2023
- Road068645006590 contributionsExploring Arunachal with the UnexploredA trip that started with a reminder call from "Rajeev" the founder of the unexplored, reminding me that my trip starts in two days.. who does that right? The unexplored team did not just arrange and planned my trip.. they made sure all are requirements are taken care of, from arranging an eggless cake in a small town of Dirang to suggesting what local cuisines and wine to try.. It was a memorable experience... Thank you so much Rajeev and the unexplored team for arranging everything to the T..Written 25 October 2023
- Climber7601610 contributionsVery Bad.I did trip to Sikkim + Darjeeling with my family through Unexplored Travels in the last week of March-2023. Initially we got quote from Mr. Yashwanth, and paid 50% advance. Then he disappeared, then one bloody Rohit came in line who totally spoiled our trip by booking very substandard hotels and rooms though took money for 3 star facility. He is sitting in Varanasi, and he employed one Mr. Ashuthosh for the car service who was a terror just for taking money only. Then one Nishanth Singh came in the last taking again additional amount and some how finished the trip. This Rohit is very fraudulent and never trust this Travel Agency Unexplored Travels to say from my personal experience.Written 13 April 2023
- dbhogle0 contributionsRustic MeghalayaWe planned our trip with the help of Rajeev and his team. We are very organized when travelling and were extremely happy to have that same level of organization from the Unexplored team. Rajeev was always available to help and ensured we had the required support through every step of our journey. We planned a 7 day/6 night trip through Meghalaya and Guwahati. We had a great experience hiking to the double decker bridge and Rainbow falls. Our guide Bakor (organized by Unexplored team) was a delight to talk to and gave us so many insights of the local villages and the forest area. We even changed our plans on one of the days and the Unexplored team obliged to provide us an alternative in no time. The car and driver were also very good and our driver pretty much knew all the nooks and corners of the area. With his help, we managed to enjoy local Khasi food and that was an experience of its own! Lastly, Rajeev went above and beyond to ensure our visit to the Kamakhya temple was planned and as quick as possible. Overall, we had a great time discovering this rustic country-side and would definitely plan another trip with the Unexplored team.Written 4 April 2023

- Dream_destinations10 contributionsMeghalaya 7N8D group packageWe had a very stressful experience on our trip to Meghalaya. Very unprofessional and casual attitude. After endless discussions and exchange of mails and whatsapp messages things were not taken care of. Starting with one of the cars breaking down on the way from airport to Shillong. Rooms not booked in the property we asked for and had been discussing over months. Paid for an MAP plan, but we had to reach the hotel and order dinner for the group, which took time and was inconvenient. Not told clearly that starters was not a part of the package in one of the hotels we stayed for 3 nights and on the last day we were asked to pay for the starters. Travel time and distances were not what we had been told, so everyday we spent hours traveling, it was all a mess Entry tickets and parking tickets for all the sightseeing were not bought in advance and again we were not informed about this, We had to pay and later got reimbursed.Written 2 May 2022
- Mehak_jain930 contributionsGood accomodations and very well planned. The itenerary was well planned keeping in mind our preferences. All accomodation and transits were well managed with good properties on good locations. Their continuous guidance helped us a lot. Driver provided was also very helpful and friendly. Cab provided was a little uncomfortable given the long travel time. Overall it was a great trip and we enjoyed a lot.Written 5 March 2022
- MaliniSuri0 contributionsWonderful experienceWe were 6 people including 1 kid. Everything was managed by Mr. Rajeev very well including accommodation, entry passes, taxi he provided a very comfortable stay keeping in mind our 4 year old kid. He kept guiding us throughout the trip since we were going to almost all off-beat places. The cab was a little uncomfortable and not in a very good condition but overall we had a wonderful experience and enjoyed a lot. We look forward to more such trips..thankyou Rajeev.Written 3 March 2022
- Ketakink0 contributionsOverall okayWe did an all girl's 8 days Meghalaya tour. Rajiv made the bookings and all the documentation necessary due to covid. Entry into Meghalaya was seemless. He booked hotels/homestays at clean and safe places. He was accomodating since we made a lot of last moment changes. The driver he provided was very reliable. I just felt a little lack of communication as we had specifically requested a few things but they were not taken care of. I also felt like he made a unilateral decisions about a few things. Overall the trip was okay. It could have been better. There were a few locations which he wasn't suggesting but we chose anyway and enjoyed a lot there.Written 24 January 2022

It was a 7 days North Sikkim tour and we covered the locations Darjeeling, Gangtok and Ravangala. We missed some main attractions due to the climate conditions, but still we really do appreciate the efforts they took to make our trip memorable. Thanks a lot Rajiv for the customized plan and for the support throughout the trip..Written 6 January 2022

Trip was planned according to my requirement and locations I chose. Unexplored team stayed in touch throughout the trip to answer my queries. Thank you Unexplored team for arranging my trip at the 11th hour and making it a memorable experience. I would definitely recommend it to female solo travelers.Written 29 December 2021

It was a family trip to meghalaya . While packing my bags i knew it will be a normal family trip with few side scenes and some pictures with hills . As they say life is full of surprises and that's what happened . From a monotonous family trip to an adventurous experience , this was one of the most cherished experience of my life. That late night scenes in dawki , waterfalls, trekking, unseen locations , it was an amazing experience. All thanks to our guide "Rajiv" , he was very cooperative and friendly.
Keep it up !!

We went to Meghalaya in a couple package. This was our first time, certainly not our last due to the cordiality which the unexplored.in provided. Rather than a normal tour operator they have become our friends. Any time any problem we faced they were just a ring away and the problem was solved. They are educated and well aware of all the places in northeast.. When we went to meghalaya the double decker root bridge was closed down and we were sad that we got unlucky this time as it was on our list. The unexplored customized our package as the double decker bridge was closed..but just 2 days before our trip ended, Rajiv our trip advisor from unexplored called us and told it has opened. We were so happy and immediately went to that place the next day.. Even the locals told it was closed but Rajiv was confident that it was open and asked us to start trekking.. And yes he was right it was open. Just indicates. how great the contacts of these people are in all of these places. And yes it was the most memorable day of our trip. And the team is also great at telling all the folk lores before going to the place which gave us a new perspective when we visit the place. And food and accommodation they provided were so great . Especially the homestays they arranged were all secure and home like . The people were very friendly and cooked us great food.
I can suggest unexplored.in to any one who is looking to explore northeast. We are certainly going back to other places , for northeast is nothing short of surprises. Thanks unexplored team for making our trip memorable and for your flexibility, adaptability and understanding. Can't thank you enough for all the comfort you provided.

Circling back to TripAdvisor where i had first come across TheUnexplored and Rajeev...
Our package was planned after multiple discussions with Rajeev who ensured to hear our expectations of Meghalaya and pick spots accordingly. He was very flexible with the places to be visited and also ensured we got flight tickets in very very reasonable rates, as promised.
Meghalaya during February is not lush green, however the water bodies were stunning, the people as well. Despite being an off season we were mesmerised by the lovely state. Apart from Kerala we haven't been to places where nature is so well respected and maintained.
We started off from Guwahati airport where our polite and wonderful driver Abhishek areived. He took us to Kamakhya Temple, then we headed towards Umiam lake in shillong. The night was chilly ..went down to a good 6 degrees by the night. I was practically in covers and would've preferred to cuddle the heater than my girlfriend.. Being from Mumbai didn't help !
Next morning was a trip to Laitlum village on a mountain top, where we saw long brown pastures meeting the blue sky. A small trek down the mountain and up again followed by snacking on some delicious chicken momo and bhutta (corn). Next stop was Krangsuri falls where we were absolutely stunned by the still and clean water which was greenish blue.
From here we headed to Shnongpdeng village, right on the banks of river Umngot. This river flows through India-Bangladesh and we camped the night on the banks of this river. The camps were solid and we were entertained with a bonfire as well.
The beauty of the river came alive right after sunrise, where the blue of the sky met the lush green mountain top between which the aquamarine green water flew. We clicked some photos on the suspension bridge post which boating option was provided (unmissable). After breakfast we headed to Dawki where we saw the Umngot river flowing into Bangladesh and the border where our some of our Jawans were hurling water and sand at the locals who would try to come very close to the Indian border. Felt funny how it was the same land, water and an imaginary line divided us from the other country. The locals from Bangladesh were noisy (in a good way) where they were excited to see the Indian border, the Indians and probably wanted to hop over the line.
The day ended with visiting the single root bridge in Mawlynnong. The bridge was beautiful however a crowd gathered by the time we reached there and couldn't get the pictures we hoped to get. In Meghalaya if you want to see anything beautiful, one has to trek a bit. This was no trek however there were water, maggi and fruits stalls to boost any tired soul.
We visited the cleanest village in Mawlynnong the same day as the root bridge, post which our stay was in Shaiti homestay. We were greeted by a cute uncle and aunty who made our stay extremely warm that night.
We left the next day morning for the bamboo trek of Meghalaya in Mawryngkhang...the trek, though people hype it upto be scary, is not very scary. We climb a mountain from its sides just on bamboo. The structure is very solid and sturdy. However, if someone has vertigo issues, beware. I had a good time climbing it. Our entire day went at this trek and we returned to our hotel stay in Cafe Cherapunjee. Lovely surrounding to the cafe/hotel...decent and clean rooms. Wish they had big sized Radiators just like in Shaiti homestay, Mawlynnong.
The next day was a trip to Wei sawdong falls ..a small trek to the falls. Absolutely worth it. Many locals and college kids were seen around at this place..which made the place more vibrant. The water here was again absolute clear and had the aquamarine glow to it. The day ended in Sohra with a visit to Mawsmai caves, which was a quick tour and we got some time to buy souvenirs.
The following day we had a massive trek to Double root bridge, beyond which was the blue lagoon and then the rainbow falls. It's not a trek for the faint hearted. Trek to double root bridge is 3kms and another 2.8 kms to rainbow falls. And then come all the way back. Preferably start the trek early..7 or 8 AM . I trekked only uptil double root bridge..starting at 9 AM and returning by 1 PM.
The next day was a sad trip back to Guwahati for our flight, where Rajeev spent some time with us before we reached the airport. Rajeev always had an anecdote or two related to the places we went and thus always had an interesting conversation with him.
Special thanks to Manisha as well who was prompt to respond to our queries and always checked uon us during the trip.
Thank you so much to the UnExplored team. See you next time when we come to the NE ❤️✨
