Drivers and pedestrians smiled and honked as we rolled past, it was truly like we were sent to spread Christmas spirit around downtown Charlotte as we took in all the decorations and lights. - MizzC0 contributionsCharlotte Comes AliveWe thoroughly enjoyed this educational tour of Charlotte. Our tour guide Dianna is extremely knowledgeable on all things African American in Charlotte, as well as ALL of the history of Charlotte. She made Charlotte come alive. Pointed out historical markers, beautiful neighborhoods and homes and buildings that are registered as historical landmarks. We walked part of the campus of Johnson C Smith University and enjoyed a delightful coffee and danish at Archive_CLT, a coffee shop/bookstore. At the coffee shop we met a couple of Charlotte legends in the black community. Amazingly delightful conversations were had. I highly recommend this tour.Written 10 December 2024

It was a great tour. I had never ridden a Segway before and was a little scared of how difficult it might be and whether it would be hard to balance and maneuver. Our guide was Ashby and he did a great job of instructing us and then practicing with us in a safe quiet area until we had the basics down and were more comfortable with the Segway. He led us on a great tour, stopping at a variety of interesting historic and scenic spots in the downtown area. He was also very safety conscious taking us places were there was not a lot of congestion. I had so much fun. He told us the Segways would become intuitive to operate and he was completely right. Can’t wait to do another Segway tour. I highly recommend you give this one a try for a really fun experience.

I highly recommend the Charlotte Historical Segway tour!! We had six family members participating - 3 that had never ridden and 3 that were very experienced. James did a fabulous job of making the tour fun and informative for both the new and experienced riders. It was a great way to learn about some Charlotte history and see the different aspects of uptown Charlotte.

My wife and I booked our Segway tour on the last day of our getaway weekend. The weather was chilly and overcast but we had a wonderful time touring the city without walking. We had never been to Charlotte before and this was great way to see and learn about it.
For whatever the reason my wife and I were the only ones taking the tour so we had a private experience with our tour guide Lane. He was only 19 but he was very knowledgeable and professional. His instructions for using the Segway were very helpful making us feel comfortable and confident to safely ride them. Great job Lane!
We highly recommend Charlotte NC Tours if you’re interested in a fun experience.

I used Segway for first time and the detailed training along with video was perfect. The tour timing was apt and the information provided was great. I don’t feel that tour was rushed up. Guide had great experience and knowledge about the history of the city and kept just checking on us whole time on our Segway status. Felt great and different experience. Definitely recommend one time !!

Days before our Segway tour, I received text messages with instructions on how to find their office in this huge business building and most importantly the parking lots around the area and the prices! Even on the day of the tour, they were communicating with me and making sure we were okay.
Our guide was Rod and he was very knowledgeable. He would point out fascinating historical highlights that blew his mind throughout the tour and gave us a deep appreciation of Charlotte. We didn't want the tour to end.

What a great way for a first-time visitor to get introduced to Charlotte. We felt we really got a sense of much of the city in a 90 – minute tour. A wonderful way to begin our visit to Charlotte.
And Rod was as good a guide as anyone could hope to have: He was patient in teaching us how to use the Segway, was knowledgeable, had an endless supply of interesting stories about various facets of the city, and generally was a lot of fun. He even provided restaurant tips for us at the end of the tour. Rod made the tour a very memorable experience.

This tour was exactly what we wanted. We were able to explore Charlotte in an immersive way by being on the segways. Our guide was Rod and he knew a lot of the history of the city and seems to know a lot of people in the area also as a long time resident. This allowed us to hear more personalized stories of the city’s history and people. The segways were fun and easy to catch on to riding. Loved that it wasn’t with a large group so we got a very personalized experience. Our 13 year old thought it was great also.

From their site.....You must be at least 14 years of age to operate the Segways. You must also weigh at least 100 lbs and not more than 260 lbs to operate the Segways.
Hope this helps.

Can I book a tour the same day I want to go, or do I have to do it in advance
Written 18 June 2019
I'm pretty sure that you can do it on the same day BUT if the tour is full you will be out of luck. Doing it ahead of time guarantees you a spot.
Written 20 June 2019
Not sure about the age requirements, I would check that with the tour company. I will say though, if someone can ride a bike - keep their balance - they would be able to ride a segway. For the younger ages, if they need training wheels, this is definitely not for them. And at the other end, for a senior that has balance issues when walking, this is not for them. Hope this helps!
