Awful and overpriced!
The full day trip turned out to be 3.5 hour! The tour guide knew very little about history of Stone Town or the Prison Island. I really regret booking this tour before getting to Zanzibar. You can find a better selection of tours for much better prices when in town!!

The tour guide was unprofessional
The guided tour was for 6 hrs , where the tour guide completed in 3hrs, he just made me to walk around the town and he never spoke much as I was the only person in the tour.
He even told me 6 hrs tour is for old people .

Great trip
Jan 2020
I found prison island especially interesting and to see the huge wild tortoises roaming around. I found the Stone town tour a little boring walking around int he heat and the traders were a little intense in trying to get you to buy which actually worked the other way and chased me away. The wares they have are beautiful. Not sure about the price tho as I didnt buy anything

Nice trip, could be more informative!
I booked the trip 2 days before and it was super easy and fast. Reply came after short time. Even pic up service was no problem to book aswell. Got picked up and dropped off at the hotel on the other side of the island in Paje for 50$ which was ok for both ways.

Trip itself was nice, sadly we were in a bit of a hurry. Would have enjoyed a bit more time with the turtles. Prison island was cool to see but I would have wanted more information about the quarantine time etc. It was just a quick walk through.

After that we went on the boat again and for the tour through stone town. The tour was interesting and everybody got a bottle of water, much needed on this hot day. Sadly same here, it was not as much information provided as I wished there would be. Didn't see things from the inside like house of wonders, Freddy Mercury house just walked past them and for that price I found it quite expensive tour. We walked through the markets which was nice and had time to shop a bit. For lunch we went to a small restaurant and enjoyed our food there. Everybody hat a budget of 15 000 Tanzania Schilling to spend on food which was included, the rest if needed you had to pay for yourself but it was quite cheap so mostly no need for that I guess.

It was a nice little tour to see an overview of prison island and stonetown, but if you want to dig deeper maybe get a brochure in advance or look for a more complex tour. It was good, but I had wished for more details and information!

Very interesting, not to be missed.....
Oct 2019
Stone town was a very interesting town to visit in view of the terrible slave trade which took place there. There is a lot of information on view as well as seeing what terrible conditions the slaves were kept in before being auctioned. A beautiful church now stands on the very site which is very fitting after such dreadful times.
Prison Island is worth the short sea trip but only to see the giant tortoises which you can feed and they are free to roam around. The actual prison is not much more than stone ruins but you can buy a cold drink there which is good. I must stress, you must be fit and able to climb into the boats which are used (old and falling to bits!). Also to disembark upon reaching Prison Island, very rickety landing stage. A couple of small sandy beaches are good if you fancy a dip but otherwise nothing else there.
Would I recommend this excursion...yes.

A great tour!
A really great day with our excellent guide Ally. He knew so much about the people, history and culture of Zanzibar and was very helpful with answering questions.
The tour was great and I would recommend to it everyone who wants to get a really good overview of Stonetown and Prison Island.
The lunch that was included, at a local restaurant, was really good too. Another thing about the tour that was great was that during the city tour, we had Ally just to ourselves and could customize parts of the tour.
All in all, a really great tour and would def recommend to it other people. Don’t forget to ask for Ally when booking!

Day trip to see the Giant tortoises
Nov 2019
We booked a day trip here, through our Hotel. The driver took us the Harbour in Stine town, where a lovely local guide took us on the small boat to Prison Island. He explained the full History of the island, and then we got to meet the giant Tortoises that live and breed on the island. After catching the boat back to Stone town we had lunch, and then a guided tour of the town, taking in the museum, the fortress, the churches and Freddie Mercury House, and the local market. It was a lovely day out, and the chance to experience the diverse culture of Zanzibar.

Nice intro tour of Stonetown area
The tour company can arrange pick up from hotels on East coast beach area but to note it is extra $55 and takes 60-90 minutes each way. Meet guide on waterfront in Stonetown then around 30 minutes boat ride to prison island. Few things to see there but the giant tortoises and how they got there is interesting. Back In Stonetown a walking tour of main sights and walking past lots of good souvenir shops and restaurants. The local food market interesting to see how people live day to day but get there before 2.00pm after which it gets very packed. Entrance fees at all sights are included as is the great stop for lunch. Guide was super friendly and helpful but did not share much of the detailed history of the island, Stonetown or detailed historical knowledge of each location. But overall a nice little tour to get quick overview of Stonetown and out to Prison Island.
