- S3877MPjimm0 contributionsGreat overview tour of the Twin CitiesDouglas did a great job giving us an in-depth overview tour of the Twin Cities. We stopped several times to see the beautiful cathedrals and parks that makes the area so special. Douglas is very knowledgeable and he was able to give us insight into the history and growth of both Minneapolis and St. Paul. I highly recommend Douglas for your next tour of the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area!Written 29 July 2024

- Travel084755871380 contributionsWonderful tour! Highly recommend! Our tour of St. Paul’s historic Summit Ave with Douglas was fantastic. He gave us a wonderful, customized tour of Summit Avenue’s architectural, social, and economic history. My wife and I do a lot of tours when we visit new cities—it’s our favorite way to learn about a new place in a short amount of time. And Douglas’ tour was one of the best we’ve ever taken. Douglas was also very helpful making recommendations. He gave us recommendations for places to eat/things to do in St. Paul before and after our tour. The next time we visit the Twin Cities, we will definitely book another tour with Douglas.Written 25 June 2024
- lisalK3421QT0 contributionsGreat tour - Great day - Lots of fun!!!What a great day we had with Doug! We drove all through Minneapolis - St. Paul. Doug was agreeable to stop & see the interiors of the places WE were interested in. We learned so much about the history and the culture of the area. Jeff was a great driver - who threw in a few factoids, too. :) Doug was also flexible to meeting our needs as far as walking abilities, which was helpful. All in all a wonderful day. Highly recommended!!Written 12 June 2024
- Seaside7463290 contributionsFirst trip to the Twin CitiesOur family of 4 enjoyed the private tour of the Twin Cities with Doug!. Prior to the tour, he reached out and asked about us and what our interests were. He and the driver picked us up promptly and took us by many places in both Minneapolis and St Paul, stopping at a few. We learned quite a bit in 3 hours and felt as though our money had been well spent.Written 29 May 2024

- KDB15020 contributionsWonderful! We took a tour when family was in town visiting. It was lovely to have the tour guide just to ourselves! He was engaging, charming and knowledgeable. We spent about two hours touring the architecturally significant Twin Palms neighborhood. So many beautiful mid-century homes and remarkable history. It was fun and informative! You needn't be an architect or a mid-century expert to enjoy or appreciate this tour. Thank you!Written 8 April 2024

- eb20200 contributionsA Gem of an MCM TourWe were searching for a fun activity for a group of friends in town for a long weekend and this tour was a perfect fit. The leisurely walk took us though a neighborhood filled with classic Mid-Century modern homes, many of which were in excellent condition and true to their original aesthetics. Our guide, Doug, was super-knowledgable with lots of details of the history, architecture and stories of the neighborhood along with Palm Springs' place in the history of the MCM home and architecture. The tour was an easy walk, well-paced and allowed plenty of time for pauses and questions. I'd highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in MCM architecture or just an interesting walk through a picturesque and historic neighborhood.Written 4 April 2024

The F. Scott Fitzgerald walking tour in Saint Paul with Douglas Kline was one of the highlights of our visit to the twin cities. Douglas not only provided my wife and I with a detailed and lyrical portrait of F. Scott Fitzgerald as a boy and young man growing up in Saint Paul, but also thru various residences identified the social and familial influences that informed Fitzgerald’s coming of age as a writer. What we did not expect was Douglas Kline’s love of architecture and how he seamlessly wove into the narrative of our tour a unique and detailed insight into the architectural evolution of not only the homes F. Scott Fitzgerald lived in, but how the melding of architectural styles from home to home on Summit Avenue characterized the generational changes of Saint Paul writ large. Douglas Kline’s walking tour is an absolute must not only for F. Scott Fitzgerald enthusiasts, but for anyone who enjoys the company of a congenial and gracious guide whose thoughtful and eloquent acumen is not only revelatory but decidedly above all else inspired.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the blending of Fitzgerald history with the beautifully restored homes in his historic, boyhood neighborhood. Fitzgerald's fame and success can be tied to many of the locales we visited. Our exploration helped place his later life in context. Happy you liked the tour!

Doug was an exceptionally friendly and helpful host. He gave us wonderful tips about what to see and do during our stay in the Twin Cities, for which we’re grateful. Be sure to start your trip with him in order to benefit from his knowledge. The tour itself was a pleasant walk through the lovely neighborhoods Fitzgerald haunted. The information was pretty basic (especially considering the cost) and the delivery unpracticed, presumably because it’s a new tour. I would recommend Doug’s other tour on Summit Ave’s Victorian homes instead, as he seemed more knowledgeable about that subject and knows the area well. The Fitzgerald tour should be more polished in a year or so.

My fiancé and I had a really lovely trek around F Scott Fitzgerald’s hometown of St. Paul MN. Doug was very knowledgeable of the intimate details of Scott’s family life, his upbringing in St. Paul, and the architecture of the homes in the surrounding neighborhoods.

6 of us booked a tour with Doug after a get together where we talked about how Fitzgerald likely walked past one of our homes many times. We enjoyed the stories, facts and considerations Doug shared and felt like we were walking with a more knowledgeable friend.

Thank you, Jessica. Your group was both interested and interesting, with some great perceptions about F. Scott Fitzgerald's crazy life. I look forward to future tours with your organization's members, and that includes "Esther" the lovable dog that accompanied us.
