- mbmcdoyle0 contributionsAmazing Architecture and Tiffany Too!My husband and I took a quick weekend trip to Chicago and this tour, which was the Historic Treasures of Chicago’s Golden Age, was a bit of a last minute after thought but we are so glad we scheduled it. This was such an interesting and enjoyable experience. Jacquelyn was an excellent guide, both informative and friendly. It really allowed for an appreciation of the architecture within a historical context. The Drake Hotel and the Chicago Cultural Center with the amazing Tiffany ceiling mosaics were drop jaw gorgeous. I highly recommend and look forward to future tours with the Chicago Architecture Center.Written 23 March 2025

We had Juan Carlos, and he was so well-informed and enthusiastic about everything he talked about- I knew next to nothing about architecture before this and I really felt like I learned a lot! The weather was gorgeous and he took us to extra areas to tell us stuff about buildings he liked and their history which added time and was super appreciated. I will recommend this to anyone visiting Chicago and I am so grateful to have experienced this tour on my trip!Written 14 March 2025

Even sites that I did not think would be enjoyable, I enjoyed learning about. She was informative, professional, and very engaging and obviously puts a lot of time into learning about the sites to make the presentation interesting and engaging! Although it was very cold outside it was well worth the experience! Thank you, ElizabethWritten 12 March 2025

An excellent walking tour throughout the north loop and near north side. We probably walked 1.5 total miles in 2 hours so bring a good pair of walking shoes! Some of the tour goes into the lobbies of the buildings providing a unique and new look at many of the buildings you may have seen from the outside.
Our tour guide Joelle (I think it was Joelle!) was excellent at helping us understand the nuances of the art deco style.

I took the Art Deco Riverfront tour with Russ S today, and it was outstanding. He gave great details about the art deco characteristics of each building, and had very engaging stories at many of the stops. So knowledgeable! Highly recommend!

CAC provides some of the best tours with very informed and passionate docents. The tour guide was very friendly, and had many connections with staff of the buildings we toured inside to give us some great inside scoop. Will definitely book again in the future!

We really enjoyed the Art Deco tour with Mitch, who was fantastic guide. He packed a lot of great historical information in the two hour tour. We visited gems along the river including many gorgeous lobbies that are packed with beautiful engravings, metal work and unique marble from the time. I took my 84 year old dad and he was able to manage the walking just fine. Highly recommend!

I chose the Art Deco Skyscrapers Riverfront walking tour as I wanted to see inside the Carbide & Carbon building, which was as beautiful as I'd imagined. I think we visited the interiors of 5 buildings and our guide Leslie pointed out many others to us. There were only about 6 of us on the tour. Leslie was very knowledgeable and answered my many questions, even about buildings that were not on the tour. She really knew her stuff in terms of architects and dates. At the end of the tour, we asked for a cafe recommendation and she took us to an excellent one.

Deb was a fantastic tour guide and docent who provided an in-depth look at some extraordinary art deco building of Chicago.
She had great information, was able to answer our questions, and made the tour feel very homey and comfortable.
Look forward to taking more tours from the Chicago Architecture Foundation.

I took the Art Deco Riverwalk tour with Betsy yesterday. My friend, was visiting from out of the country, was quite engaged with the tour. I have often seen the buildings we toured but I learned a lot of new things about the them (especially the interiors). We went into a section of the Merchandise Mart that I hadn't previously seen and I had a question about the murals and Betsy did some research and emailed me afterwards in response to my question.

Highest rating; for all levels of interest. This tour covered Art Deco architecture within a half mile loop or so. Our tour was hosted by Mitch, who was quite knowledgeable and has been doing the tour for a long time. It was fast paced because of the amount of material to cover, but Mitch was accommodating for a photographer, and somebody with a slight disability. History of those that commissioned the buildings and details of the era as well as history of the architecture was provided. Highly recommend.

My family and I had a great time in a chilly day in November visiting Art Deco buildings with our guide Cynthia.
It was a cold morning in Chicago, nonetheless the combination of time spent outside and inside of the buildings, along with Cynthia’s knowledge, enthusiasm and warmth made this a wonderful experience.
The tour was very informative, and gave us the opportunity to learn about and see Art Deco details that are normally overlooked.
Once again, the Chicago Architecture Center lived up to our expectations.

I have always been a fan of art-deco and with our visit to Chicago I could not pass up. The tour wraps around the downtown riverwalk to highlight art-deco skyscrapers. The guide was very knowledgeable and did great at explaining the history of the buildings. The walking distance was also very doable for all ages. Would recommend!
