Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- aquimariani0 contributionsBetter having dinner outside and then go to the skydeckReally poor experience. It's too bad that something that could be a beautiful night turned out to be a hilarious situation. The pizza was served cold and after asking for heating it up FOUR TIMES they weren't able to make it hotter, the dessert was presented in a plastic cover and the beverages were just a glass of soda, we asked for water and they only gave us the bottle without even changing or cleaning the glasses. They only argue about the fact that we didn't choose the options on time... I don't know why that should be related but I wouldn't ever pay again for something like this. My advice is to eat the pizza in Giordano's and then just pay to go up to the skydeck. You'll save a lot of moneyWritten 16 September 2024

- 177samanthav0 contributionsTerrible customer service - will over charge you and not make it right! The view was great - Tuesday night was the perfect time.... but customer service absolutely dropped the ball! I tried to pay for our tickets online. The payment went through on my end, but I was never emailed tickets. I called, they told me to come in, in person and we could get it worked out. I went in...they told me that that their daytime office staff could help me the next day, just to call in. I went ahead and paid again. I paid. The system did it again. My card was charged - but the transaction never went through on their end so tickets weren't issued. They apologized. Said customer service would help work it out. We tried one more time. It went through fully! Over the next 2 weeks, I called numerous times, spoke to different people, finally found 1 person via email who seemed to be able to help. I ended up being refunded for 1 of the 2 "duplicate charges".....and when I asked for clarification about the second charge they have ghosted me. The view was great.....but the 90 seconds in the "ledge" wasn't worth the headache it has caused or the price they ended up charging me.Written 25 August 2024
- joyces9230 contributionsDo this !!When visiting the Skydeck, we took in the Ledge ... I couldn't really look down (until I was back inside the building), but I would definitely recommend doing this. You get a specific time to be inside the "ledge", so everyone has a fair chance of taking enough pictures - if you want to take more, you just re-join the queue!!Written 22 August 2024
- egwanderlust0 contributionsNot For Scaredy CatsThe experience is great, but I would not recommend this to anyone who genuinely fears heights. The museum before the elevator ride was a lot of fun - unique photo ops and many facts about Chicago's history. The elevator ride was quick, and the views from the top floor were beautiful. You really can see the whole city! The queue for the Ledge on a weekday wasn't bad - 5-minute wait for the two of us. As much as I tried, I only stood on the Ledge for about five seconds before getting vertigo. My husband had a wonderful experience and loved the look-down. I'm not saying this isn't worth it, but for someone with a fear of heights, I think the ticket price is too high.Written 18 August 2024
- Cosmic-Sand0 contributionsGreat views of Chicago and amazing photos!Great experience. The staff was nice and welcoming. Stepping into the ledge for the first time was a little scary but you get comfortable quickly. Once it’s your turn, you have exactly 1 min to take pics so think ahead what poses you want and be ready. You can go back in line as many times as you want if you have time and patience to do the line again. We took lots of great photos! Highly recommended especially if it’s your first time in Chicago.Written 28 July 2024

The ledge is an exciting experience that lets you stand over the city and get a picture of you above the clouds. After having purchased regular tickets online we arrived at the tower and were told that the line would take 2 hours do we paid an additional $50 each for the fast pass. The lift was out of order so there was a fiasco of being directed to 3 different lifts. When we got to the top the views were brilliant as was the ledge. However, the queue to go down was huge and the fast pass didn’t give you priority to leave.

Thank you for visiting us at Skydeck Chicago! We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the brilliant panoramic views from our 103rd floor. For future reference, to experience a shorter wait time, we suggest visiting first thing in the morning when we open to the public at 10 AM October through February or at 9 AM March through September, and pre-purchasing your tickets on our website. Thank you for visiting the Skydeck. Our express elevators are out due to annual service so we are using alternative elevators to get guests to the observation deck.

Make sure you go at the right time!!! Waited 3 hours to get into a crammed elevator when they said the wait time would only be an hour, the views are good at the top, but “The ledge” with the best place to be photographed you can only stay for 60 seconds and the staff will not take your picture with your phone only there iPad so they can sell it to you in the gift shop when you leave. The reason I’m giving this one star and what put me over the edge is the hour wait TO LEAVE!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! Spent a total of 3 hours for actually only 15 minutes of viewing, would not recommend this unless you want to spend a lot on a fast pass or really are strategic about the time of day your going. Good luck!

Warning! We waited in line for an hour and were only allowed 60 seconds to take pictures on the Skydeck. With Covid going on, the only group pics you can take are their professional ones which cost $30 each. Not worth the money in my opinion!

Last time we were in Chicago 5y ago we opted for the Hancock tower for only one reason - Willis (Sears) Tower is a Chicago symbol and I wanted it on my pics.
This year we went for the Willis and it was awesome.
We bought our tickets online for around an hour before sunset time slot so we could enjoy both, daytime and night views. Views are definitely better than from Hancock, and the night views are simply stunning.
The Ledge is absolutely amazing and unique. There's a wait time for it and you're allowed to stay in 1-2 min depending on your party size. That's quite understandable as without time limits people would wait forever until all before them finish their photo sessions. Employees by the Ledge are very kind and willing to take photos of you with your own camera after the official compulsory photo (not obliged to buy it). If you wish to repeat, you can join the line again as many times you want for the Ledge.

We pre-purchased tickets, not cheap, $74 for two adults for a timed entry. So what do you get. A nice walk through displays regarding chicago, it's history and architecture. Very informative, but not really what you are here for. The ride up to the 103rd floor is not the fastest and the lifts are quite packed with visitors and this is my first gripe, there are simply too many visitors allowed in at one time. Having just read another review, I wholeheartedly agree about buying expedited entry, because we queued some 30 minutes to get one minute on the ledge (you get a whole 2 minutes if there are more than 2). It's really not enough time, especially when I observed some getting a lot, lot longer, probably expedited entry peeps. Great views of the windy city, so do enjoy. It is worth a visit, so is recommended, but do better investigation than I did and pick a quieter time to visit.

This is exactly what you think it is. A clear box hanging off the Willis Tower. It is a $20 photo shoot. Still, you won't get much higher than this. If heights doesn't impress you, this isn't your attraction. If you enjoy being one hundred plus stories in the air, you won't be scared and it will be pretty exhilarating. r
It is three different elevators you will need to take. There are plenty of staff members around who will guide to where you have to go next. Once you make it to the top, there are four booths (one was closed when I was there). You socially distance yourself in a line and they call you to the next available ledge. Each party is supposed to only get about 90 seconds but if the line isn't long, it feels more like about three minutes. I got in there early and there wasn't much of a line. Make sure your cameras are ready as you don't want to waste any of your seconds turning your stuff on and off. Because of Covid, they are not allowed to take pictures of you so either bring a friend (they will have to pay admission as well) or get yourself a nice selfie-stick. Once they tell you that your time is up and you have to go, they sanitize the ledge so I felt like they were taking care of the cleanliness aspect. I don't know if you can go back into line after they tell you to leave. They don't take any tickets while you are in line for the ledge so it's not you have nothing to give them. You could always give it a shot and see if they remember you but the exit just puts you back on the same floor so it would seemingly be pretty easy to get back in line if you're able. The gift shop is right before you leave. A lot of Chicago souvenirs and stuff you could probably find cheaper on the streets but also there is stuff that is unique to Willis (Sears) Tower.
The staff is nice enough. I talked to a few of them on the way up. It isn't a terribly complicated staff position. It's not like you are giving a tour through the Art Museum. Still, they were nice and would talk about their position. They won't get you any bonus stuff but it's better to be nice and try I suppose.

103 floors up offers fantastic view of the city and Lake Michigan and is a once in a lifetime opportunity which shouldn't be be missed. Would recommend booking your tickets in advance. They are available on the day but, at odd times like 8pm in the evening. Before joining the lift an official photo is taken of your party against the background of the Chicago skyline. Keep the ticket handy as you'll need it later.
The lifts are smooth and takes up 103 floors quite quickly. When at the top you can wonder round taking as many pictures as you like. Definitely try the Perspex Sky Pods hanging off the side of the Tower. You can look straight down 103 floor! There are four but there are queues (the wait isn't too long). Hand the ticket to the Guide so it can be scanned for your official photograph. After that you are then allowed about 60-90 seconds depending on the number of people in your group to take your own photos.
When you get to the ground floor, hand your ticket to the Guide who will retrieve your official photos. You can buy the full set for $45 (expensive) but given that you may never return is worth the on-off purchase.

If you like city views from way up high this is for you. All ages were present but I would not suggest this for those with vestibular conditions or handicaps. If you have mobility issues they do have ramps but the elevators are packed like sardines. Also even with reservations (supposedly required but more for you because they sold lots of tickets to no reservations) the place was packed. Our original time (10:30am) was rescheduled due to no visability thanks to clouds The staff advised us before we checked in and was good about rescheduling.
The bottom part of the “tour” was cool with tons of places to take photos of. They have bypassed for some scenes for motion sensitive folks but the last bypass before the elevators ended stupidly with the lines going through the final exhibit. Fortunately my husband and I were together so I could get in line and he could wait at the bypass.
Elevator line took 4 elevators . By this time my legs and back were giving out from walking and standing . No Benches or Chairs anywhere not even for employees. That sucked.
The sky ledge where you stand on glass was a mess. We abstained due to an additional wait of about thirty minutes to stand on the ledge for a photo for 60 secs. Nope.
Photos were physical and 10 bucks each (about 6 bucks more than most location photos) Youhave a souvenir shop in the skydeck itself. Which honestly makes it way more crowded and ruins the experience. The huge gift shop downstairs is enough.
I’ll stop because the more I write the less happy with the experience I am. It’s sort of a money grab. It’s also fairly pricey for what you get . I would not do it again.

This is an amazing experience. I would advise coming in the morning about 20 minutes before they open and get in line to beat the crowds. They let you take your own pictures, unlike the Grand Canyon Skywalk where you have to buy the company’s pictures. This awesome experience is worth the wait.

I was hesitant to do this attraction because of the expensive price tag (over $100 for a family of four), but my family loved it. We bought tickets online in advance. The museum in the basement of the building was an added bonus - my kids loved taking photos with the giant deep dish pizza and life-size photo of Oprah. We had to wait in line to take an elevator to the top floor and wait in an even longer line to go out on the ledge, but we were not in a hurry. Overall, we spent about 70 minutes at the attraction.

Which is the better view the sky deck at Willis or the 360 degree at John Hancock ?
Written 25 December 2019
Both have excellent views of Chicago but I would choose the Sky Deck in Willis as the better. We went at dusk and watched the sun set. A fantastic view.

Where can you purchase the Fast Pass option and how much is it?
Written 30 July 2019
I went on-line. It is not a fast-pass per se. You can purchase for a specific day and time frame. The price is $75. I believe normal cost is $25.
This also gives you no waiting for the deck that over hangs the building(glass bottom). So it does save you time on 2 fronts.

Hey, we went in July ourselves and got there around 11am and it was so quiet and we only got the SkyDeck admission no fast pass. We were there for approximately 2 hours with minimal queue and wait times but it was cloudy. Not sure that the fast pass would gain you much.
