- Dreamer5265060 contributionsEconlohatchee Canoe TripEconlohatchee Self Guided canoe rental. Wow. Use this outfitter, don't even think twice. As a Florida native of Old Florida, (I grew up in the 60's on the coast) this trip is an amazing, convenient dip into wild Florida. This trip is for people with some experience canoeing and camping but it's totally safe and easy. Yes, airplane traffic from MCO can be heard, but otherwise you'd think you were so far away from it all. We did the 20 mile paddle and spent the night on the river, and it was everything I hoped for. It was serene. You could power paddle it in 6 hours but we took two days and drifted quietly quite a bit. We saw otters, fish, many large polite alligators, herons of every kind, bitterns, egrets, limpkins, and near the St. Johns, many spoonbills and wood storks. Our campsite was perfect....white sand beach, flat grassy tent spots. There are plenty of those. Along the way, there are a couple of sulfur springs feeding in, you'll smell it for a minute as you pass, but it's a good thing. Greg is an amazing, knowledgable guy who grew up around here. You will love the Little Big Econ and this outfitter.Written 19 December 2024

Their knowledge of the swamp and all of its creatures from river otters and feral hogs to alligators to hawks and waterfowl made the swamp come to life. Off river, they fed us healthy, taste food and answered all of our questions. The state park offers cottages with plenty of hot water, clean rooms, rocking chairs on screened in porches, and an internet cafe.Written 16 December 2024

Greg and Bill chose different paddling locations for each day, and offered hiking and paddling options following the one rainy morning. The Suwanee River is a serene and beautiful nature experience. Greg and Bill do it all: planning paddle locations, loading/unloading boats, help getting in and out of kayaks, and all cooking delicious varied meals, and clean up. Even with the post-storm higher waters, Saw and photographed multiple gators and herons and bald eagles and more. Great guide - accommodating, knowledgeable, skilled, and engaging. - petrasilie20170 contributionsAmazing wildlife experience with excellent guidesThe Kayak trip: amazing wildlife tour with view of alligators and lots of birds. The material: high quality equipment, very safe The guides: Very professional, friendly and you can ask them a lot of questions they will know to answer. Very helpful and adaptive to the kayaking skills of the visitor Highlights: Despite the fact that it was only the two of us, they did not cancel the tour but gave us the experience with two guides. A snack was offered that included amazing chocolate cookies handmade by the owner of the business. An overall absolutely recommendable tour, we chose it as an alternative to an airboat tour and it turned out to be the absolute highlight of our Florida Trip. Thank you very much for giving us this experience!Written 6 August 2024
- kayleem9950 contributionsAmazing bucket list experience!I cannot recommend this tour enough. Lucas, our guide, was kind, friendly and knowledgeable. He made sure everyone felt safe and was fun to converse with. The place that we launched from had some light pollution but Lucas explained that they use this body of water because the deepest it gets is 8 feet or so. They provide life vests and give a safety talk and walk any newcomers through how to use their kayak. He took our group to 2 islands and let us get out if we wanted to and swim in the bioluminescence. The experience was on my bucket list and was absolutely worth it. My suggestion, do your research to see if you’re going when the bioluminescence is brighter and when the moon is darker. Also don’t forget to bring a tip for your guides because they really are so amazing!Written 3 August 2024
- Maps6433470 contributionsOverall goodOverall A really good experience and seeing the bioluminescence was really spectacular. However instructions to the place we not correct but we found it in the end. - Plan4Fun0 contributionsWonderful Family AdventureHad an amazing river kayaking trip with Lucas a little over a week ago. Our kids (9, 12, & 14) were a little nervous as it was only their 2nd time kayaking, but Lucas made sure they felt comfortable on the water and shared his wildlife knowledge with us which they really enjoyed, especially learning about snake birds and their "special powers". The river was beautiful and gave us a glimpse of another side of Florida that we had not experienced before. It was quiet and peaceful with lots of wildlife to be seen. We were incredibly fortunate it to see around 10 alligators (small and never concerning), a turtle, several types of birds, and even a manatee! Our stop for lunch was great and the food provided - cold cuts, cheese, crackers, spinach dip, cherries, and oreos definitely hit the mark for our group. We had a really great time and would definitely recommend Adventures in Florida as well as our guide, Lucas. Thanks for some great memories!Written 19 June 2024

You know you are traveling with the best guide when tour guides from other companies approach your guide for advice. Astrid was amazing from start to finish. Our brand new kayaks were set up and ready to go when we arrived. Clear instructions were given regarding how to kayak, how to be safe, and how to ethically interact with the native wildlife.
It was very obvious that Astrid and Adventures in Florida care more about the natural world than the occupation of making money. Our tour group was small and we were encouraged to pick up any liter we might encounter on the river.
Upon reaching the manatees, Astrid saturated with manatee facts and answered everyone’s questions. We were told to take our paddles out of the water and to just wait for the manatee to approach us and did they ever approach us! I had several manatee rubbing their face and whiskers on my kayak. A mother and calf just hung out under me in clear blue water for several minutes. It was absolutely the most magical tour ever.
I can’t recommend this enough, it is a must do for anyone visiting Orlando.

Jimmy was AMAZING!!!! Will absolutely be returning. This is a once in a lifetime experience. We are from Nebraska and wanted to see some manatees up close and this was a fantastic tour. Jimmy is kind, funny and extremely knowledgeable. The manatees were so playful and came right over when they saw our kayaks. Jimmy was so kind and cut his lunch short so we could have more time on the water interacting with the manatees. 10/10 recommend to ANYONE wanting an incredible experience with the wildlife of Florida!

Astrid was amazing, friendly, and informative. Her passion for the waterways and the animals kept you wanting to follow her and her patients with inexperienced paddlers made the challenging trip feel more comfortable. The booking process was crazy easy and the price was great for a weekend adventure in Florida. I would recommend bringing lots of water, a hat, and extra sunscreen as sitting on the water was incredibly hot. We will definitely be back!!!

Our tour guide Jimmy was awesome! He knew everything about the area and explained everything from the plants to the animals. We even saw 3 young manatee up by the spring (2 of them were just released from foster care and another one joined them). It was nice to see a "manatee watcher" gal (a volunteer position that keeps a close eye on the manatee and educates the people as they come through) to help keep the newly released young ones safe. Afterwards we paddled down or up the river (not really sure). We saw a lot of gators swimming in the waters. It was fun watching them poke their heads up to watch us and then go back under. Down by the lagoon/ end of the cove we went through there was a deer which Jimmy said he never saw before. We also saw a lot of turtles in that area and then a gator that went right under our kayak and did some splashing around, trying to get away from us, I am sure! It was nerve wracking to say the least but I am sure he was just as scared. On the way back we saw a bird that had a snake in his mouth and then proceeded to fly away and above our kayak. I was thankful he didn't drop the snake on us!!! This tour was absolutely amazing and my most favorite part of our visit to Florida. I highly recommend the tour as there is so much to learn from your guide rather than going on your own.

We originally scheduled a Saturday morning tour. The weather was a little rainy but we went out hoping the weather would break. Unfortunately the rain just got worse and lightning was in the area, so we ended the tour early (after less than 40 minutes on the water) due to safety. We were given the number of the owner who we texted to see if we could get on a tour for the next morning. They added us to the next mornings tour. We had a little drizzle but other than that it was great weather. The guide was very knowledgeable and great at going at your pace.
The manatees are in the spring area if the river temperatures are too cold, so if the river has warmed up due to days of warm weather in the area they may not be in the spring area. We saw a few manatees (mainly snouts breaching for air) in the spring and around the river. A week before there were a lot more in the spring area. So you will have to temper your manatee expectations based upon the weather. We did see lots of gators, turtles, and birds during our tour so even if you don’t see any manatees it is still worth the trip. My wife and three boys (15 13 & 11) all enjoyed the tour.
We stopped at valentine park before the tour to hit the bathroom. We brought rain gear (ponchos) just in case, but we did not need them. Also bring a camera to get pictures, just be prepared for the camera to get wet. The sit on top kayaks were more stable and I would recommend them for anyone new to kayaking.

We enjoyed kayaking down the river full of manatees, gators, and fish, as well as various birds and ample southern greens in the beginning of March. Our tour guide, Astrid, is fantastic, very knowledgeable, and joyful to talk to! She put everyone at ease with respect to the gators and guided us gently through the wild beauty of the deep South. She also took plenty of wonderful pictures and shared them all with us. Highly recommend this splendid experience to anyone!

The tour was absolutely exceptional. Our tour guide was very good at giving instructions, my wife and I learned very quickly because of her timely directions. It was so much fun getting out on the water and having a day of adventure. We saw several manatees but most of them were sleeping so we couldn’t see as much as expected. Maybe different times of the year you could see more. Either way you’ll still have a good time. We learned a lot about different kinds of fish, our instructor was very knowledgeable about the area and we learned a lot, I strongly recommend, you will have a great day.

While we went late in the season for Manatee, we saw a dozen or so. Our guide Gina was great, tailored the trip to our kayaking ability and ensured we saw not only the manatee but alligators and all kinds of birds. Gina was very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, highly recommend her as a guide!

My family and I (2adults, 3 kids 17,10,9) booked the Manatee Encounter Tour and let me tell you, it was amazing!! We learned so much about Florida nature and wildlife! The scenery was beautiful and kayaking was relaxing. Our guide, Jimi, was so helpful and knowledgeable about the area, history, and wildlife. We saw many manatees, eagles, gators, great blue herring, many active fish, so many birds I have never seen! This is a day the my family will always remember. I would highly recommend this tour for new or experienced kayakers and would not hesitate to return for another tour.

Our guide, Astrid, was great. She was super personable and informative. She had a great eye and pointed out so many different birds, and turtles. We even saw a small gator sunning itself. She gave us some great info on the local plants and vegetation. When she saw my teen losing steam during the paddling she paddles up near him and they talked and she put some wind back into his sails(or paddles). That was much appreciated. The highlight was the Blue Spring lagoon. The water was crystal clear and so picturesque. We saw alligator Gars and order fish. The only manatee that day was O'Neill, the local rescue manatee. He was so cool to watch and he even swam under my kayak. What an experience!!! Not going to lie, I was a tad disappointed that we didn't see the hundreds of manatees migrating to eat like the website had said. However we still loved this tour, had a great time and would certainly recommend it. PS, Astrid took and shared some beautiful pictures of our group and trip, Thanks Astrid! You were great! :)
