About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Jaredlangerman0 contributionsFun, Informative. Highly recommended.Excellent tour. AJ was friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The pace was leisurely. It was nice to do it at 9am before it was too busy or hot. It was great to get a different perspective of Key West outside of tourism. Highly recommended.Written 3 June 2024

- annmcm230 contributionsWant to fall in love with Key West? Take this tour.Key West's deep history is too easily shadowed by libation and relaxation - but this tour is perfect, a historical primer and living lesson of Key West's culture of acceptance, with AJ as our fantastic guide. His knowledge about Key West's history and culture was infectious. Our group of 8 found that his tour was just what we needed to get comfortable with the area. Plus, he's got great recommendations for food and activities. Spot-onWritten 13 May 2024
- joannerC7887AE0 contributionsHistory comes alive!!! A must do!!!This is a “must do”. Don’t get pulled in on bike tours or trolleys. Put on your shoes and be ready to be informed and entertained. Alejandro is a highly knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide, full of interesting and quirky stories of the history of Key West. Even after coming to Key West for 24 years, I learned new and often humorous and/enlightening information. He augments the tour with excellent photos from the past of the same places that you are seeing, adding details that make it all come alive. GREAT TOUR!!!Written 22 March 2024
- 351agustinam0 contributionsBest experience in kwAJ was awesome! Really kind person, helpful and he gives the best advice about where to go and have the best time in your vacations. I highly recommend it. So far the best one for many that i did. He lives in key west for so many years and he knows so much history about the island.Written 27 February 2024

- Mark Q0 contributionsFun and informative 90-minute walking tourAJ was a great tour guide. Got to see a lot during the 1.5-mile walk, with plenty of stops in the shade. Definitely recommended to learn more about the interesting history of Key West and get some tips on the best times to visit other attractions like the Hemingway House and Butterfly Sanctuary.Written 10 December 2023
- O4700YCchadl0 contributionsIf you only do one thing in Key WestThe best thing we did in Key West. AJ is amazing! We learned so much about the history of the island and things to do off the beaten path. You won’t be disappointed!Written 9 May 2023
- Margie B0 contributionsJumpstart your Key West vacationThis is a must do tour and should be at the start of your vacation but will enjoy and learn even if you have been to Key West before. Several people had said “Don’t pay for a tour, just walk on your own.” So glad I had already booked this tour. Our guide, A.J, was fantastic! We started outside the Kino Sandal Store and ended the tour with AJ taking our picture at the Southern most point ionic landmark. He knew how to take a great picture without waiting in the long line. That alone was worth the price of the tour! AJ stopped in the shade (thank you!) to tell us about local buildings, history of Key West with funny tidbits thrown in. We learned so much about Key West in a short (an hour and 15 minutes I think) and entertaining way. He books 10 or less people in a tour and uses an ipad to bring the history to life with old pictures. AJ shared places to visit: buildings, tours, activities, restaurants and local bars. My husband enjoyed the tour also even though I pushed him to go. Our tour started at 9:00am when it is cooler and quiter. Yes, I would recommend this tour and the local guide AJ! Most of the pictures I included are from the tour and the 2 from Mallory Square Sunset Celebration are reminders of the many free and fun activities to do in Key West. We did this tour instead of the trolleys/trains for the more personal and up close touch but would still benefit and learn if already have done a ride on tour. This walking tour does not go inside any buildings. It guides you on the culture and history of Old Key West and what moulded it into todays Key West.Written 21 April 2023
- ALsHonestTake0 contributionsYou Do it OnceYou'll only want to do this once but folks that you travel with will want to do it for the first time too. It's a cool picture to take but go too late and the line is unbearable. Morning or evening would be best.Written 16 April 2023

We took this our first day in Key West, and it gave us all the information we needed to make the rest of our week amazing. If you wanted to learn more about the history of Key West, take this tour!Written 1 March 2023

Our guide was terrific. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of Key West and provided entertaining stories along the way. We covered a lot of ground so wear comfortable shoes. Small group of 10 made it easy to hear and ask questions. Book this walking tour.

It was a very nice walking tour covering many of the historic parts of Key West such as Ernest Hemingway house, old Cuban consulate, light house with a history etc. The tour covered outside of the buildings except for places where it was also possible to have a brief visit inside of the buildings like the old Cuban consulate museum and church with beautiful window glass paintings. The guide was able to provide a lot of useful information about the history of Key West along with the old pictures shown using a tablet. Our group had 6 people and so was a very small group. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Key West.

We absolutely loved this tour! My wife were fortunate to be the only two scheduled that morning for the tour so we received a private two hour tour! In addition to the charm and character of old town Key West, what really made this tour was our tour guide, Alejandro ("AJ"). He was friendly, engaging, energetic, and knowledgable. Even though AJ has probably done hundreds of these walking tours, he came across extremely interested in what he was showing us - I'm pretty sure AJ just really likes Key West and that made all the difference in this tour! I highly recommend this tour and don't let the walking part discourage you - it is done at a casual pace and there are plenty of times when we stopped for a few minutes as AJ was telling us about a particular location/site. Also, I feel we learned a lot more and got a better feel of the Old Town walking around than if we would have taken the hop on/hop off tours. Finally, make sure to bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated as Key West can get quite warm. Make your reservation for this tour...you won't regret it!

This tour should be at the top of your list to do, even if you've been to Key West before! AJ was our guide and really knows Key West history and put the oldie time pictures (which are super cool!) together with the current day Key West to tell the complete story of the area in an entertaining and fun way. He also took us to some off-the beaten path sites that were very cool, gave us restaurant recommendations and told us about funny things to do. He's a fantastic story teller, fun to talk to and personable. Highly recommend!

I would highly recommend this walking tour to learn about the history of Key West and the Keys. Alejandro, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and presented the facts and history with photos and a ton of information that was very interesting.
It was an easy two hour walk around the heart of Key West. You won’t be disappointed. Well worth the cost.

AJ did a great job with the Key West walking tour. He brought us to many points of interest and gave us their history. AJ provided many 'before' pictures that added to the tour. If you want to learn about Key West's rich history, we highly recommend this walking tour (about 2 hours).

First off, our guide, AJ, was absolutely fantastic and such a sweetheart. He has a mastery of the finer points of the Key West historic district and gives wonderful details throughout. Everything was fun and very intriguing to say the least. Our favorite part of the tour was visiting the inside of the cigar manufacturing shop and visiting with the rollers while they worked.

Very good tour with interesting facts & unusual places … just be aware not to buy a hopelessly overpriced freshly squeezed orange juice @ Flamingo bar at the start of the tour - $11 for 250ml is shocking. The tours 2nd last stop is a historical cigar factory - quite something to see cigars being rolled by hand from tobacco leaves, just like back in the day! Tour is worth the money, any day.

My husband and I have been going to Key West for the past 15 years and this is the first time we've taken a historical walking tour. AJ was a great tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave an interactive tour. We got to experience some of the local crafts and learn the history of how they came to be unique to Key West. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to learn about Key West.

This was such a wonderful walking tour! Our guide AJ was so kind and informative. I loved our relaxed walk together and seeing places off the main roads, and learning so much about different places along the way. it was a perfect way to see the city and learn so much from a local who is also such a knowledgeable historian. Every time we passed a touristy golf cart or bus, I was relieved I was seeing key west through this walking tour rather than a different mode. It was so peaceful yet still active. I loved it.
