- ssilver331400 contributionsSo much fun!!! The nicest people!!We took needed a quick activity to do with our kids on our way out of Breckenridge and found Country Boy Mine. We booked snowshoeing not knowing what to expect. The whole experience exceeded our expectations. The place is super cool and we all loved snowshoeing. We ended up tubing for a bit and took a quick walk through the museum as well. The staff there was so friendly, excited about what they do and where they work. We'll definitely be stopping by Country Boy Mine on our next trip up to Breck.Written 31 January 2025

- LARockwall0 contributionsGreat outing for the entire family on a no ski day!We went with a family group of 8. 4 Grandparents, 2 Parents and 2 children (4 & 8). The Monster truck ride was fun and our guides were great! We toured a miners cabin close to the top on the hill and saw mining equipment of the way up. At the top of the hill they let you sled down to the bottom of the hill at the mine (all but 2 of us did this). We had enough time and they let us sled 2 times! It was extremely cold that day and they gave us blankets to try and stay warm. After the sleigh ride we went in and panned for gold (with a tutorial with how to do it and toured the museum. We finished off with sliding down and old chute. Everyone really liked it! For the money it is worth every penny!Written 23 January 2025

- G5286UKkarlab0 contributions"Best day of my life!" according to my 8 year oldMy son and I absolutely loved our time at Country Boy Mine. Everyone was so polite and the drivers were so kind to give my 8 year old and I an extra ride on the "little pig" snow truck. I can't remember the name. We had so much fun tubing and taking the fun way down from the mine that we missed the mining experience. We will definitely come here again next time we are in Breck. Pro tip: come an hour early so you can get extra tubing time in.Written 2 January 2025

This was an absolute blast.
We took our two eight year olds to the tour and gold panning experience and all of us had an amazing time. I am so glad that we found this activity while we were visiting Breckenridge.
Every member of the staff was extremely kind and helpful. These people love what they do and it makes the experience that much better.
The mine itself is a straight walk back into the mountain about 1,000 feet. Part of the walk is "wet" in that there is water that drips from the roof of the mine shaft and some water that runs below the wooden planks you walk on. You may get a few drips on you and if you're not careful, maybe your shoes get wet--nothing to worry about, though.
The tour itself was VERY good. Joe was our guide and he is out of this world knowledgable. He kept all of the adults engaged with endless amounts of information while somehow managing to keep the children entertained at the same time. This man is amazing at his work.
After the tour is complete, you will learn how to pan for gold and then be set loose to pan through several ponds near the mine entrance. The water is quite cold and the area can be a little crowded, but it is very fun for any age to participate.
Scattered all around the property are old coaches, engines, mine carts, and mining paraphernalia, great opportunities for photos and for hiking around the mountain side.
If you are gold panning as part of the tour, there is no limit to how long you can stay, and if the sun is out, you could probably manage a couple of hours here without a problem. There is also a large covered area with tables where you can stop have lunch.
My only complaint about the entire thing is that the tour is only forty-five minutes in and out of the mine and the gold panning lesson. I could have spent the next hour picking Joe's mind about mining and wish we had more time before he had to leave on the next tour.
This is 100% worth the price of admission. I would recommend this to anyone spending time up in Breckenridge who needs a break from the slopes.

I took a group of summer camp kids to Country Boy a few weeks ago and had a blast (pun intended!)! Miner Jon and Miner Ryan immediately engaged the kids with lots of energy, interesting history and mine facts, and the ability to tell when kids were scared and what they were most interested in. The kids were very engaged during the faux dynamite stop along the way in the mine. As a counselor, I not only enjoyed myself for the activity alone, but also for the excellent way our group was accommodated the entire time we were there. The mine tour, which goes 1000 feet underground, was a unique experience and I loved it, and then we got to do some gold panning in the nearby creek, and the kids (and myself) were fascinated by the process and all the cool stuff we found. This was one of the best field trips I've ever taken kids on!

I was skeptical about what to expect when I paid for the tour of the mine on the website. It's not super easy to navigate and the address listed on the website brought us to a neighborhood just down the street from the mine. It was pricey but in the end the experience we were given was completely worth it. The parking is in front of an old broken down mine building face that's perfect for pictures. After a quick search we found the sign leading up an incline to a perfect little mine town complete with little details that made you feel like you were visiting a real gold mine. The employs were really nice and we were invited to feed two donkeys while we waited for the tour. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer all out questions. They even provided coats which was nice since my daughter didn't think she needed to bring an actual coat. After the incredible tour we were brought to several pools that were spring fed with water that ran through the mine and showed how to pan. Little gold flakes floated to the surface of the water with minimal effort and we found beautiful pieces of blue and pink copper ore. The experience was well worth the price tag. Highly recommend this experience. My children range from 8 years to 13 and they enjoyed panning and the tour as much as my husband and I.

We're so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves! We're really lucky that all ages love the very special place that we have. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience - and we keep telling Apple Maps to fix up our address in the system but, sigh...:)

Had a great time! Both Jon and Michael were knowledgable, patient, and a lot of fun. You can tell not only do they know what they are doing and talking about, but genuinely are passionate about it as well. We were lucky to have a small group which really allowed Michael, our guide, to engage with and answer our questions. It would really be cool if they had a haunted night tour (hint hint Jon). Highly recommend!

Very informative. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable, and did a great job interacting with all ages on the tour. He also did a very good demonstration to bring us back in time and help us understand the difficulties of what the old timer miners had to experience to do their jobs.

We wanted to see a real gold mine, and this was just as advertised. Our guide Robyn was knowledgeable about the history of the mine and the equipment used. She has a great sense of humor which made the experience a fun time ! We donned our hard hats for safety and headed into the horizontal mine drift about 1,000 feet into the mountain. The walk through the mine is not strenuous, and can be easily done by old and young alike.
Aftwards we were invited to pan for real gold in the stream which flows down from the mountain. The gold is aplenty and is comprised of small pieces of gold leaf which are best sucked up with a pipette. They provide everything you need: wading boots, pan, pipette and a zip lock bag to store your gold. You are welcome to keep any gold and crystals you find without any additional fee. It was such a joy watching the young children with their little ziploc bags of gold, I'm sure they will tell this story to their grandchildren some day!
The mine tour is about 45 -60 minutes, and you can pan for gold all day until they close if you like. I highly recommend, great for small children. It is located near Breckenridge, CO.

This is such a great activity, especially for families. I saw the little ones gold-mining and having so much fun. The tour of the gold mine was awesome for all ages! Not too strenuous so accommodates many levels. Michael, our tour guide, was knowledgeable, professional, and fun; had lots of small kids in our tour group and he just rolled with the controlled chaos that little ones bring! I accidentally registered for the wrong date and didn’t know it til I got there but they were SO great about helping me out and we were able to get right in. It was a great experience to get back into a working mine. Highly recommend all around!!

The mine tour was nice - our guide was informative and patient. But the best part was all the other activities that were available (for Free!).
They had a small sled/tube slide with tubes and sleds to borrow - you have to walk back up the hill, but it was a great way to see how our little ones would react to the bigger slides available in the area.
I thought the gold panning would be a 1 and done - thinking it would be way to cold to go panning. But they had 2 large stock tanks inside a building with 'mine dirt'. The building was a mini-museum with things kids could play with, there was little fireplace that kept the room warm and the tanks had heaters in them that made the water luke warm. We spent about 1.5 hours panning for gold and found many small minerals - pyrite, quartz, amethyst, copper and maybe a few flecks of gold.

This gold mine tour is one of the best. Our tour guide did an excellent job of providing history and education while keeping the kids entertained. The gold panning is so fun, but I’d recommend bringing a change of clothes for kids and water shoes or boots.

A friend booked the mine tour for us and we went along with very modest expectations, but we were really pleasantly surprised. The mine tour goes deep into the mountain and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had 8 younger kids in the group and he was a very entertaining educator and entertainer. The panning for gold afterwards was fun for the kids too, just try to have them wear boots (feet will get wet). The staff were all super friendly, Mike even brought us up to a second mine opening up the hill, was hilarious, really generous with the kids and his time, and took a bunch of pictures for us. The mine is a very easy 3 minute drive from downtown Brick, we will absolutely bring friends and visitors back in the future. The mine tour gets a strong recommendation, particularly families with kids 12 and under, the sledding is awesome for anyone over maybe 8 years old.

Is it cold in the mine in July? Would you recommend a light jacket and good walking shoes? Any other tips/suggestions?
Written 17 July 2022
The folks told us it's 45 deg F year round inside the mine. We were there on a chilly but sunny day in May and wore jackets inside, and were glad we did. Regarding shoes, definitely something for walking and I'd advise against canvas tennis shoes or sandals. There is some water puddled in a few places and you wouldn't want wet feet.
