Skunk Train: Northspur Flyer from Willits
US$ 90.72
Overview

This 4 to 4.5-hour round trip departs Willits and begins the steep ascent (3.5% grade) to the summit of our line at 1,740 feet. Traveling through Tunnel No. 2, the trip descends into the Noyo River Canyon. In one spot, you will travel 8.5 miles to cover a straight-line distance of less than one mile in a serpentine of switchbacks. From Willits we operate the vintage 1925 M-100 motorcar / railcruiser or a diesel locomotive pulling passenger coaches and an open air car.

Northspur is the midpoint of the railroad and is the turnaround point for every train.

We look forward to seeing you and are currently inviting you to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy during your layover in Northspur – as there is temporarily no food vendor at Northspur.  There is a concession area on the train with snacks and beverages available for purchase, including a full bar.

A+ Good Fun

2 hours out, 1 hour layover, 2 hours return. Book a reservation, even if somebody on the phone says you don't need one. Be sure to ask for the Senior discount. Bring earplugs if you intend to stand in the Open car. The train noise...More

Great way to see the Redwoods

The experience of this trip begins when boarding with a warm greeting from the Engineer, Molokai. Riding midweek, there were only enough passengers to fill one car which made it more pleasurable. To enhance the experience of the trip was having aboard, "The Train Singer"...More

Most Enjoyable

We first looked at this train excursion from home. We're very glad we booked it because otherwise we ran out of time to see the magnificent redwoods of northern California. The trip was about four hours and in no way too long. We stopped in...More

Needs better management

We rode the Skunk Train a while back. We hesitated to write this review, but: We had heard rumors about the "Chief Skunk" rudeness and poor management, but unfortunately experienced it first hand during this disappointing experience. We will keep this review objective. Courtesy, cleanliness,...More
