When you show up at the gates of Universal Studios Hollywood, with your express ticket in hand, you're already ahead of the game. The park offers a limited number of these tickets each day and they often sell out. The popular option gives you one-time express access for each ride, show and attraction in the park. You'll also enjoy some special behind-the-scenes benefits at select attractions. Take the park's famous Studio Tour to see where many Hollywood movies are made and witness the world's largest 3-D experience, Peter Jackson's King Kong 360 3-D. Go see the Special Effects Show, where real Hollywood stuntmen and cutting-edge technology come together to recreate scenes from popular movies. Please see Itinerary section below for a full list of rides, shows and attractions. Please Note: Priority entry privileges, reserved seating, special demonstrations and special tours are subject to ride, show and attraction availability.
Some very good rides and experiences:
Positives: Harry Potter ride, Jurassic Park ride, Transformers ride
Negatives: Huges queues if you don't have a Fastpasss (Harry Potter queue was over 2 hours), food is awful

I can’t quite remember the difference as we bought the tickets on the day at Universal. I think it cost us around 700USD for four tickets with the express pass. I believe it is marginally cheaper to pre purchase through their website and we went on a weekday with less crowds. Hope this helps.
