- F6843LIsallyt0 contributionsRed Jeep tour and the San Andreas fault. Our tour guide, Pace, provided a truly exceptional and educational experience, covering the San Andreas fault, the landscape, local wildlife, plants, and the Indigenous tribe of the region. This tour was on my bucket list and it exceeded all of my expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend this trip to anyone interested in learning more about life in a seismically active zone.Written 1 March 2025
- SusanM64040 contributionsPalm Canyon is lovely!Walked the Palm Canyon trail earlier this month. Super cool. An oasis in the desert. Trail from the parking area is pretty easy. A few rocky parts but not bad. Very well traveled, nicely maintained trail. You can walk as far as you want. You can either go out and back or take other trails to go farther. It is $12/person to get in which is collected at a gate a bit of a drive away from the parking area.Written 16 March 2024
- rwarmstrong0 contributionsSan Andreas Fault Tour - Cahuilla Village @ The Matate Ranch A++We booked a trip with Red Jeep Tours - not really sure what to expect but we wanted to explore the Valley. Brandy took our reservation and explained everything with knowledge and patience. Other than a small hiccup trying to find the meeting location (use Google Maps - not Apple Maps), we got there and met our guide. Gary was a super guy, he knew his stuff and taught us all sorts of fascinating things - from a history lesson about the Cahuilla people and recreated village on site, history of the tribe and geological formations all around the tour, you could not ask for more. The hikes were easy, the views were spectacular, the water was cold and the overall experience is highly recommended. I would not hesitate to book another tour with Red Jeep.Written 18 January 2024

Being at work in Palm Desert I took the opportunity to take a jeep tour of the San Andrea fault. From the duration of 3 hours the tour included a drive interspersed with various stops with related walks. We visited an oasis where they told us about the vegetation (they even made us taste some leaves and seeds), the reconstruction of a village of the local natives, and a fantastic walk among the rocks. The tour, taking place on a private area, takes place in unspoilt (or almost) nature with no other tourists around.

This tour was absolutely wonderful! It's so fascinating to learn the rich history of this desert area. Our guide Chris was so fun & informative (you could ask him anything about the landscape and history and he knew the answer!). This was my favorite part of visiting Palm Springs -- I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I had the utmost pleasure of experiencing a red jeep tour in Palm Springs this past weekend. Our guide, Christopher Francis was by far one of the best guides I have ever had on any tour I have taken; jeep or not. Not only was he knowledgeable but he was engaging, entertaining, and incredibly personable. I could not imagine taking another tour from anyone else. The tour itself was also spectacular. From learning about desert agriculture to rock formations, animal ecosystems, and indigenous history, it was all fantastic. I highly recommend Red Jeep Tours and 150% would recommend requesting Chris as your guide. 10/10 and would go again.

Don't know if your exact guide matters or not, because Travis was perfection! Highly recommend this tour before you do any hiking on your own - you will learn so much about the valley, the fault lines, the desert (and palms, plants, wildlife, etc), the oases (plural of oasis??), the local Cahuilla tribe, and so much more! Also recommend if you are new to the desert, or have never had much education on the desert. The back of the jeep comfortably seats 6: three on each sideways bench. The roads can be bumpy but not crazy; I was able to use my ever-present back support/pillow and was perfectly comfortable. We took the canvas roof off to go into the canyons and that really helps you feel a part of it all. Guide has a microphone/speaker, so you can hear quite well even while he's driving on the dirt tracks. Several stops to go into the oasis, a mock village and hiking. Love the opportunities to hike into slot canyons and up a hill for views. Beautiful environment to learn, walk, and have photo ops. If you can't or don't want to hike, you can stay at the jeep. You do need to be ambulatory to get in and out of the jeep, probably even if you get the front passenger seat. Parking is a big empty lot, there is no structure, office or bathroom at the lot, but there are decent bathrooms at a stop.

Anyone wanting a laid back, fun and informative tour really should do this. Our group had a really nice time. Our guide, Leroy was extremely knowledgeable and (honestly) so genuinely into the landscape, the vegetation, and the native culture all around us. He did a great job explaining everything and we came away with a wonderful appreciation for the desert, the history, the native Americans that inhabitated the area. He seemed to really enjoy sharing his view of what it was like to live in this harsh environment, generation after generation. Fascinating. Highly recommended!

Chris, our tour guide was excellent - fun, interesting, informed and interactive. There were four people in our group and we were joined by another two people. We appreciated the small size of the group. An outcome to any successful tour is retention of the information shared. After the tour the four of us continued to discuss what we learned and surprised ourselves by how much we retained, particularly given the amount of information Chris shared.
We learned about the flora and fauna, how the plants thrive and how brilliant and beautiful nature is. We walked through a slot canyon, learned about plants that the Native Americans used for medicine. We learned quite a lot about the Tribe and Bands of Native Americans who made, and continue to make, this part of the desert their home. Learning about the San Andreas Fault was a true highlight.
We highly recommend this tour for anyone who enjoys a combination of education and fun in the desert.

We had a really fantastic jeep tour of part of the San Andreas fault line with Red Jeep Tours and in particular our excellent tour guide and driver Donna!
We are a family of 4 - 2 adults and children aged 9 and 7 - from the UK. The tour was tailored to our needs - eg what the children could cope with in terms of heat and walking, and in terms of the clear explanations of the local natural history and geology, and history of the indigenous people who lived and still live in the area which was delivered in a respectful way.
We learned a great deal from Donna about the geography and geology of the area, past and present and the predicted future. It was fascinating (and a little unsettling too!)
On the tour we were made as comfortable as possible. We went in the heat of the summer (and an unprecedentedly hot and humid summer apparently) but were provided with cool spray bottles, ice cold water, cold flannels and granola bars to cool us down and keep our energy up on the three hour trip.
This adventure is more than worth the money paid and was one of the best things we did on our trip to California. Thank you so much!

Our guide, Landy was extremely knowledgeable about the San Andreas fault, the landscape, the vegetation, and the native culture all around us. His passion for the landscaping showed as he did an awesome job explaining the desert environment. We were able to get some great photos and loved the little trek through a slot canyon. We loved this jeep tour!
We learned a lot about geology of the area, local plants and the native tribes. Gary was a great guide - led us on a number of great short hikes and some spot canyons…and had a great sense of humor. We had great views!
We took the public tour and ended up with two other travelers. The jeep comfortably fit 6 and our tall traveler happily took the front seat next to Gary.
Would recommend for anyone new to the area (but maybe wouldn’t be one I would do multiple times?)

This was an amazing, fun experience! It was our first time in Palm Springs and we were happy to explore via Red Jeep Tours. The jeeps seat 6 people in the back and one passenger in the front, Rick was our guide/ driver. Rich is very charming, charismatic and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. We learned about the geology of the Coachella Valley, some history of the Cahuilla Indians along with botany and much more! Rick knows everything but is not pretentious at all, we could not have had a more ideal guide. I 100% would recommend to anyone looking to spend time outdoors and not opposed to learning something new.

Anyone that has experience taking an Uber/lyft here, how is the cell service for getting one fo the return trip?
Written 25 February 2024
I can answer my own question now 🤣. Ubers might have trouble finding it unless they keep their eyes open for the signs, but Ubering seems really common and Travis was nice enough to take me and my friend as well as a couple that was on the tour with us to the JW in Palm Desert to get an Uber back easier

What or how bad is the dust during the jeep ride?
Do passengers wear face coving because or possibly because of the dust?

Written 9 December 2021
It should not be hot. Evening will be cold so please keep jacket with you.
It may comes up same or cheap by doing private tour if you are 4 . We did it private.
Written 10 December 2021
I believe I read this is a private tour. Can you please confirm this is correct? If we are 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 10 & 12), will there be anyone else on our tour? Thank you!

Due to covid restrictions, all jeep tours are private. Prior to Covid, individual seats were sold for public tours but not now to keep guests and staff safe.
