Itinerary

Make your own way to Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey to board the boat and meet your guide, a marine biologist or naturalist.

Hear commentary about whale behavior and the natural history of the California coast, as you look for gray whales, which are the most frequently sighted species. If you’re lucky you may see blue whales or humpbacks as well. Any whale-sighting data collected will be used to help track the health of the species’ population.

Learn how to spot whales and dolphins, and get advice on making your best photos and videos of the wildlife. Your cruise returns to shore by 1pm, leaving you ample time for other activities in the afternoon.

Went on a morning trip on Labor Day weekend. Saw about a dozen humpback whales, a few hundred common dolphins, a few sea lions and a couple of sea otters. The crew seemed a little disappointed that the whales were not more active, which leads...More

Fantastic!

A fantastic trip. Countless humpback whales breaching - what a marvellous sight! All sorts of dolphins too. And an Albatross. Very friendly and knowledgeable crew. Also, it was a small boat so everyone could get an uninterrupted view of the marine and birdlife.

Sorry not sure how far from where you will be docked but all the whale tours go from The Old Fisherman's Wharf off the pier from 09:00 in the morning.

It’s my understanding that the whales frequent tje bay year-round and that yes, September is particularly good. But I’d also suggest a little research to verify this.
