About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Helen K0 contributionsExperience would be better with less people on the tour.I thought there were to many people (17) on the tour way to many for what was covered. We felt rushed at most of the places. Veronica did a good job explaining the interesting facts about Carmel but at times spoke quickly and it was hard to keep up. The Tapas restaurant was lame, potatoes with spicy sauce, Tapas are small plates, totally missed the point I would never go there to patronize. The food the other places was good, my favorite was the Cauliflower dish at the brewery. Final thought for the price limit the number of people to 10 at most.Written 31 October 2023
- Diane T0 contributionsAwesome Food Tour in Carmel! We have visited the Monterey/Carmel area several times and never realized there was a food tour in Carmel By The Sea! Don’t miss this fantastic tour. We learned about the history and hidden gems here. The 6 stops ( yes 6) were at some amazing restaurants and a few libations too! You will not want to make dinner plans because you will be pleasantly full after the 3 hour tour! The walking was very easy and paced well, definitely wear walking shoes as the Carmel walkways are a bit bumpy. Veronica was our tour guide for the day. She was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly! We look forward to enjoying this tour again next time we are in the area!,Written 23 September 2023
- dankT5032AM0 contributionsWalk among the cloudsWe met up with Bonnie as planned and walked to several places that we can revisit later. Great information, great history lessons on Carmel by the Sea. Food was great and each stop had a great story behind it. Bonnie was the Carmel OG! - Q5798BKcharlesh0 contributionsThe perfect way to experience Mexico!I have been fortunate to participate in two of CFT's offerings; the Carmel Food and Wine Tour in 2017 and the San Miguel de Allende Mexico Tour in December 2022. Both experiences were delivered way beyond my expectations. The Carmel tour provided a wonderful exposure to this charming town's hospitality offerings. The San Miguel de Allende tour was a carefully curated, intimate, concierge travel experience that sets a high bar for our future travel planning. Our new friends Staci and Migdalia were gracious hosts who made certain all guests needs and interests were addressed. The itinerary, accommodations and daily scheduled offerings were exceptional. This was the perfect first trip to Mexico beyond-the-beaches for us and a multi-sensory dive into the food, crafts, shopping, music, history, and culture of this fascinating country. Put this tour on your bucket list.Written 6 December 2022
- Ben_Carmel0 contributionsAmazing tourA great experience for couples, individuals, friend groups, or the whole family. They took us to several local establishments, all of which had great food and drink. We walked throughout downtown Carmel, which was absolutely beautiful. We learned a lot of the history of the area which was really interesting. Our tour guide Bryan was fabulous--smart, funny, knowledgable. He made the day really rewarding.Written 30 November 2021
- Beachchef0 contributionsOver the top- AmazingProfessional, courteous, knowledgeable! It was our first time to Carmel and the tournwas much more than we imagined! The food, shops, drinks and history of this area make it a hidden gem! Finally, our guide Amber was AMAZING!Written 18 October 2021
- ploew10 contributionsThe best!!We, as two couples, have been on numerous food tours in various cities in the US and abroad. The Carmel Food Tour was by far the best we have encountered. Our guide, Amber, was charming and knowledgeable sprinkling historic and current tidbits of information about Carmel throughout the tour. However, the best part was, of course, the food and drink. There were 7 locations we visited with first class food, wine, desert and chocolate and generous servings throughout. We were more that filled at the end. Highly recommended, with a fair price for what we received.Written 1 October 2021
- Mark K0 contributionsFantastic tour!!Our tour guide, Bonnie, was amazing. We had seven stops, all were very good. The walking is easy. Very informative tour, unique stops, and top quality food/drink tastings. Would highly recommend this tour .... my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!Written 23 September 2021
- Gessica B0 contributionsGreat tourMy husband and I had a great time doing this food tour with Amber! She was knowledgeable and very nice! We had some good bites, good sweets/desserts, one wine tasting, and a whole glass of margarita which we enjoyed. We are happy with the great customer service and that they allowed me to buy 2 tickets when only one was available when I inquired about it. They also were nice enough to give us some recs of places to try while out in Carmel-by-the-sea for our 10 year anniversary. Highly appreciated the kindness. I would do it again. - hughejd0 contributionsWonderful way to experience CarmelGreat tour! The pace was perfect, with plenty of time at each stop, and time in between to see and learn about Carmel. Mig was the perfect guide — charming, knowledgeable, and with a gift for making everyone feel comfortable. Highly recommended!Written 9 July 2021
- susanhZ4668LT0 contributionsFun food experienceWe had a great tour with Amber and Brian. On our walk we tasted gourmet meatloaf sandwiches, tacos with a mexcalita, hot dogs, pastries and chocolate. It was a great way to learn about Carmel. Wear comfy shoes for walking and come hungry!Written 12 June 2021
- Jackie P0 contributionsBikes, Bites, and BevsWe booked the Carmel Bikes, Bites, and Bevs tour and loved it! We met at Mad Dogs and Englishmen to pick up our e-bikes and headed to Point Lobos. Staci led us past cottages and historical sites occasionally stopping to describe the landmarks. After a couple beautiful hikes at Point Lobos we headed back to Carmel by the Sea to begin the bites and bevs portion of the tour. Amber escorted us to four tasting locations where we were served a generous taste and a beverage. My favorite was the crispy cauliflower and elderflower gin and tonic at Alvarado Street Brewery. Amber was knowledgeable about the locations we visited and recounted tidbits of Carmel history as we walked to the different establishments. Thank you for a fabulous day of exploring, exercising and eating!Written 2 June 2021
- dimmtoons0 contributionsTastefully MagicI can not say enough about our experience with Carmel Food Tours. We booked it along with a bike tour of Point Lobos in Carmel through Mad Dogs and Englishmen Bike Rentals. After our bike ride our tour guide Amber was waiting to take on another adventure in Carmel. The 4 restaurants were fabulous and the menus along with the cocktails were delicious. I have to say that I was absolutely surprised at the portions that we received from each of the purveyors. Completely unexpected. I thought we might get a little appetizer to share. No way! We each got our own dish, and not just a taste of a beverage but a full cocktail, wine or beer. Even if you don't do the bike tour I'm sure their regular food walking tour if fantastic. I also love the little bites (no pun intended ) of history that Amber gave us were fantastic. Thank you Carmel Food Tours. We will be back!!! M & PWritten 29 May 2021
- SedonaFlyFishingAdv0 contributionsAwesome food tour!Great activity for history, drinks, and food. We did the bike tour first. Stacy the owner came on our bike tour and she was Awesome! Funny, personable gal that kept the tour on pace. She passed us off to Amber, great gal that really knows her history and cuisine in the Carmel by the Sea area. She took us on a walking food, drink, and history lesson in the town. 4 stops sampling different drinks and food from Carmel’s best. From signature cocktails to Carmel’s best wine, this trip definitely covered it. It was a lot of food and a lot of booze! We had a great couple along on the tour. It gave us the chance to chat and have fun as well. Definitely put it on your things to do list!Written 4 May 2021
- Buttons19480 contributionsCarmel Food TourI would highly recommend this tour. Not only do you enjoy delicious food but you also get valuable insight into the history of this charming village by the sea. The tour would make a great gift for a special occasion or just friends and family visiting from out of town.Written 24 February 2020

Our group of ladies on a birthday girls weekend trip did this exceptional tour led by Amber. As a Monterey born and raised local, Amber did a seamless job of delivering history, architecture, food, and wine tips. Our group had the opportunity to meet several restauranteurs, who all shared their passion for the community and cuisine. The highlight was 21 year old Jake Reisdorf of Carmel Honey Company, who started his business at the old age of 12 and has grown it into a multiple location retail empire. We appreciated the attention to detail, the excellent wines, and the generous portions of food (definitely plenty to satisfy your lunch). I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. One of our ladies was gluten-free (allergy, not preference) and every location did a beautiful job of accommodating her since we had communicated that in advance. We had a wonderful time!

Whenever our family travels to a new city, we always go on a food tour.. Let me say, this walking food tour was one of the best that we Ever went on. Our guide,Mig, was excellent. She was informative, helpful to everyone and made sure everyone had a good time. The food choices as well As the drinks were excellent. The walking and the length of the tour was very manageable as well. Our family included my 88 year-old father who was able to keep up and enjoy the entire tour.

We take food tours in virtually every city we visit, both domestically and globally. Today’s Carmel Food Tour is the best one I have ever taken! Stopping at six different restaurants, each had different offerings. But the quality, portion size snd taste of the food and drink were equally excellent! And our tour guide, Bonnie was wonderful. She was personable, creative and enjoyable. Not only did she seem to know everything about Carmel, past and present, but she seemed to know every person we passed on the street. Her stories about the lore of Carmel were both interesting and educational. So if you want to experience great food and drink, great fun, and learn a lot about this beautiful place, this tour is highly recommended!!

I do not like leaving negative reviews but we as a group were pretty dissapointed in our time.
Advertised as a food and wine/drink tour, this was more of a free samples tour and unfortunanly do not reccomend.
They started off strong with a small appetizer and wine pairing at Grazings (which I will say was delicious). We then walked to a honey store which gave us some sample dots of honey, a street hot dog and water bottle (corn on the cob for vegitarians), then to a nut store for some more free samples, a chocolate eclair, lastly chocolate store for free chocolate samples (there was even a sign out front advertising as such).
It was not worth the price tag unfortunantly and was not a food/wine tour as advertised. There was one curated food and wine pairing. If the rest of the stops were like the first location we would have felt more like our money was well spent.
Spend your money on a nice dinner somewhere and then walk around for some free samples. A hot dog/corn on the cob, appetizer, eclair and free samples is not worth the $100+ price tag.

This is the second time I have done this tour in the last several years, first with my wife but this time with a bunch of guys I’ve known for many years. All of us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our guide, Bonnie, was knowledgeable, experienced and charming adding historical and architectural comments about Carmel as the tour progressed.
We had a wide variety of tastings at multiple locations with choice of wine, beer, cocktail, or non alcoholic beverages. The food was of high quality and the venues interesting/charming. Plenty of food and drink by the end of the three hours. All in all, time very well spent. Highly recommended.

My family and I enjoyed an afternoon with Bonnie from Carmel Food Tours. We had a private tour where we enjoyed fare from quite a few dining venues, the Nut Hut, and Lula's Chocolates. At each venue we were allowed time to enjoy their specialties and even had the chance to meet with the owners of the venues. We were able to learn about the locals, the city, all while feeling welcomed at the same time. We loved it so much and look forward to doing it again. Bonnie went above and beyond. Her bubbly friendly personality made it perfect.

Our family had a wonderful tour (our first) with Bonnie, who was engaging, funny, and informative. While all four of us were adults, there were several young children on the tour, and Bonnie was terrific with them, managing to keep them engaged throughout the tour. There was a good variety of restaurants and types of food, and we learned a lot of interesting facts about Carmel.

I normally do not take the time to write reviews but this food and wine tour is worth the time! ! Not only were the food choices/restaurants, wine pairings, and desserts truly delicious but Mig and her knowledge about each destination, the town, and the history put this tour over the top!!! We were lucky enough to have an additional tour guide “in training” along for the ride. Brian added a little sass and loads of fun to the tour. A huge thank you to Mig and Brian for making our girls trip so memorable! I would do it again in a heartbeat!

This was AWESOME! Our guide, Amber, was full of city knowledge, unique insights, personal anecdotes, and made to sure you were having a good time. She’s grown up here, so you got to walk through the lesser traveled back alleys and taste your way through Carmel via her favorite spots. You will leave FULL and wanting to come back for another tour!

We really enjoyed the tour. Brian was friendly, humorous, knowledgeable and made sure everyone was having a great time.
The portions were large and delicious. The historical tidbits about Carmel were fun facts. We appreciated that we got a tour discount at the businesses we toured and we purchased a few items as gifts.
We were impressed that Brian guessed our names before we told him and got 90 percent of the names correct, he made a point to remember every persons name throughout the tour!
We will definitely to return to Carmel.

We are a group of 4 dying to take the tour on Thursday, June 16. I'm only allowed to buy 2 tickets? It's sold out already? We are very disappointed - the tour looks fabulous! Also, what time does it begin? I missed that on the info.
Thank you.

We were very happy with our Food Tour in Carmel. The Deli that they took us to, I never knew was there in all my years of going to Carmel. The little shopping mall had the best Cheese shop ever! They had a cheese I had tasted at a winery in Lake County that I could never find anywhere else. Of course I purchased some. I never knew that shopping mall was there either. This was a Christmas present to my family as I wanted to create experiences and memories with them. They also took us to a high end Mexican restaurant for a taste.
Just remember that its a "tasting", not a meal. We've gone back to some of the places they took us to at various times to purchase items from the tasting.
We as a family had a great time and I would do it again!

Are there non-alcoholic beverage options during the tour in place of the alcoholic ones?
Written 7 July 2021
I am sure they would accommodate that. At some if the stops I did not prefer the type of alcohol and had an ice tea. The good was the focus. Just tell them when you sign up as they seemed to be find with individual needs as long as they knew in advance.

The last two years we have spent between Christmas and New Years in Carmel. Would you consider doing some of the food tours during that time for vacationers??

Sounds as if you are commenting on the area. I am looking for a scheduling answer from Trip Advisor to see if they would extend times for Eat like a local Food tour.

Yes, as one guest used one on our tour. I would highly encourage to experience this tour! One stop they were not able to experience, but met up directly after. This was one of the hidden pathways of Carmel.

My 83-year old husband loves food tours but he can't walk very fast and needs to sit down occasionally. Would this tour be appropriate for him?
Written 10 April 2019
I would agree. The trip is does not include too much walking and you do get to sit and relax for extended periods of time.

My husband is kind of a picky eater (not a lot of vegetables and doesn't like cheeses. Poor guy (lol).
The only allergy I have is to seafood. Would the food tour be something that my husband and I could enjoy and feel we would eat the samplings of food?
Thanks so much!

The problem I see here is that as participants we had no choice in the foods being presented for sampling. E.g. we went to a fabulous upscale restaurant and we had Korean barbecue flavored Kobe beef sliders served with Prosecco. Very yummy! At a pub we had beer battered fish--it was halibut and wonderful! We also had honey, vinegar and olive oil, and chocolates. While I enjoyed it all, and am thinking of taking a different friend on this walking tour, I felt it was a bit overpriced. In addition we tipped the guides.
