Amazing City Tour And Monkeyland Experience
The city tour was fun and very informative. Rafael made the experience so much better. We got to shop around local shops in Puerto Plata and sample some Mama Juana. But of course, the best part of the experience had to be the monkeys at Monkeyland! They made sure we got photos taken by them but also allowed us to take our own with our phones which is incredible compared to a lot of other excursions I’ve done. Overall an amazing experience and highly recommend going.

          Excellent forest and waterfall adventure
Dieggo was our driver and got us through some heavy traffic on Tue way back. He also always seemed to have the bus front and centre when we were returning to it! Floricel was our guide and speaks at least 5 languages. He gave a great tour as we passed through Puerto Plata on the way to the site. They are a great team. The waterfalls: We have 3 young adults and two adults. Some of us were a little worried about the excursion, but it was great. All of us loved it. We were alongside many other groups, but Floricel always kept track of the group and made sure everyone was having a good time. You should make sure to have some sort of watershoes, and heed the warnings about loose items as you plunge pretty fast into each pool. Very fun. Lots of staff on site to help with ladders and stairs, and to make sure everyone has a helping hand.

          Good experience
          - Guide (Mateis) was good overall but didn't have the answer to everything (for example, where to find local venues with bachata or merengue music) - Lunch buffet place did their best effort to accommodate my dietary restrictions - Cable car ride at Mont Isabel de Torres was NOT included - I feel like we had some flexibility to wander around and not feel rushed to go back to the bus every time - The souvenir shops they took us to were very expensive (e.g., I couldn't find a simple magnet for less than 5 USD) - Runners whatsapp number doesn't work, I mean they don't respond

          Hope you find better
The waterfalls were amazing and a must-see so this is not a review of the attraction but of the Runners staff and organization of the tour. - Lunch buffet does not cater to dietary restrictions - Guide (Rafael) was not very good at explaining things, on top of that, he was rude and not understanding - They hire someone else to take photos which cost an additional $50 on top of the tour cost - I was only a few minutes late and they didn't wait for me so I had to find a ride to the waterfalls myself I obviously don't have a benchmark since this was my first time in DR and hadn't extensively researched group tours and went with the hotel-recommended one which was Runners but I think and hope you can find better.

          Puerto Plata city tour
The tour didnt completely match the description. We didnt visit rum factory or drive up the hill to see the statue etc. This was not compensated in the price which was quite high. Also we didnt have enough time to stroll around the city. Just a few quick pics and we were rushed to move to the next spot. Amber museum was interesting and the museum guide was really good. We also liked the visit at the chocolate factory. Lunch was quite bland and dry. All in all i think its better to visit the city independently since it is quite small and all the places we visited are in a walking distance from eachother.

          Go see the monkeys
The monkeys were an absolute delight, bringing joy and laughter to the kids as they interacted with these playful creatures. However, the ATV route left much to be desired; it was not particularly scenic, and the frequent stops interrupted the thrill of the ride, preventing us from truly unleashing the adventure. The waterfalls we visited were beautiful, but the demanding hike to reach the 20-foot cascade felt more exhausting than rewarding. While I would recommend experiencing the monkeys and the ATVs as a way to pass the time, it might be wiser to seek out waterfalls elsewhere for a more fulfilling experience.

          Never again
I would have like to say I enjoyed the experience, however the tour guide pass the hotel I had to run and chase the van . Also they took professional pictures in which I was never offered nor was it discussed with me to purchase so they have all my pictures. Would never book through here again. I would wait to book until I arrive and ask questions first before booking also it was difficult getting in contact with the tour organization. I did leave a tip although the service was subpar. Thanks

This was an extremely fun experience right from the moment we reached our tour guide. The ride on the bus was extremely fun and our driver Gregorio was great about helping everyone into and out of the bus. Even with the difference in the roads and driving etiquette, we still felt in very safe hands. The ride is a bumpy one but you will find it enjoyable with the right attitude and if you like to feel the wind in your hair. Our tour guide Julian was very personable and spoke with a smile on his face the entire time. He really helped make our experience because of his positive energy and enthusiasm for the tourist group. He spoke clearly and loudly enough for us to hear even as the wind roared through our bus. His presentation was very informative and fun overall. Our Monkeyland instructor was Wall e and he was also very informative and personable with the tourist group. There was a place to safely store our belongings for the duration of the experience inside the money habitat and he set clear expectations for the proper conduct. We got ample time to exgage with and feed the monkeys as he made several laps around the line of tourists seated on the bench. The monkey themselves were adorable and had the softest little feet! I would highly recommend this experience and it was the highlight of our time here and of all the excursions we did on our cruise. Thanks again!!

This was a fabulous excursion! We rode about 20-30 minutes in an open air safari type truck. Our guide Julio and his driver were extremely entertaining and gave us lots of info about the Dominican. The monkeys were so much fun! The keeper named Ray made sure that we all had opportunities to experience and feed the monkeys. We fed them cut up fruit and he held sunflower seeds above our heads. They lightly jumped all over us but they only weigh a couple pounds. Some had babies clinging to them. It was something I will never forget and highly recommend it. Afterwards we saw a home that was an original family home without electricity. They brewed delicious Dominican coffee and cocoa over a fire and we got to taste it. We also tasted Mamajuana which was quite good. Then you could purchase the home packaged products right there.

One of the best shore excursions ever! Our guide, Julio spoke excellent English and was extremely informative and friendly. He encouraged us to ask questions and did a great job of educating us about his country the entire time. The bus was right on time and they offered complimentary cold water bottles going and coming back. That was such a simple, inexpensive service that made such a difference and demonstrates how customer service -orientedvthey are. The monkeys were adorable beyond description and they made sure each person had plenty of interaction time with them. They were very gentle, but be forewarned, you could be peed on. We got lots of video and many photos with our phones and had the option (no pressure) of purchasing photos they took of the two of us together. Our tour included seeing a typical, primitive country home as well as learning about and sampling a number of products produced locally such as coffee, cocoa and Mama Juana. This was a great experience all the way around and I would recommend it to anyone.

This was so much fun! I would say everyone will enjoy it as long as you don't get weirded out by animals running over you. We were picked up in a very nice bus and driven to the countryside where Monkeyland is. The guide was very informative throughout our trip and described the area and the inhabitants. Upon arriving we were given a quick tour of the home of the caretakers and typical DR home. Then they gave a very nice demonstration of locally grown coffee, cacao and other items, which, of course, they sell. It was very clean and well done. We bought some cocoa which was excellent. Then onto the monkeys. They told us to leave anything we had in the bus. This means backpacks, purses, etc. If you didn't listen they rent lockers for this purpose. We then sanitized our hands and entered the enclosure. I was a little concerned at first for the welfare of the monkeys, because it looked like a cage. However, this was only an illusion because the enclosure is huge and they explained that sometimes the monkeys don't want to interact, so they don't. The local guide explained everything to us, then began giving the monkeys seeds ON US. The monkeys knew the routine and ran playfully across all of us. A little later, they gave each of us a pet food bowl with fruit in it and they took pics with tons of monkeys on each of us. The encounter was about 30 minutes. A lovely and reasonable store ended the experience. They sold the pics, but were not pushy at all. We bought them and were pleased at the price. On our way back we stopped at an artisan workshop and witnessed cigar rolling, petrified wood carving and jewelry making. Items were available for sale, but we didn't buy anything here, although prices were also fair. I highly recommend this tour.

We went to Monkeyland as a paid excursion from our NCL cruise. The monkeys were adorable and we thoroughly enjoyed the coffee tasting & lesson afterward - which is the only reason this review has two stars instead of just one. HOWEVER. We had four teen girls with our group, each had their mother sitting right by their side. The trainer was purposely tossing sunflower seeds down their shirts. At first I thought it was accidental but I watched as he went round the crowd and he was purposely aiming every time he reached a young girl. This man was easily in his 30s. My daughter quickly caught on that he was doing it on purpose and also whispered to me that he was leering at her and making her uncomfortable. When he got back to our group, I loudly told him to stop throwing sunflower seeds down their shirts as they didn’t like it. He stared right at me, did it again, and smirked. The girls had to resort to pressing one hand across the top of their shirts every time he circled back to our group. If you’re going to run a tourist attraction, you should be sure not to hire pedophiles.

We thought this experience was near perfect. Picked up at our resort at 9:00, returned around 1:30. After a brief tour of a typical DR home and a sampling of some of their local goods (coffee from beans freshly ground in a traditional mortar and pestle, hot chocolate and the local liquor, mamajuana) we went to the monkey enclosure. The guides spent about an hour dropping seeds in your hand or on your head. The monkeys were clearly used to human contact, and as long as you follow the rules (no grabbing, no closed hands) they were very gentle. The guides also passed out small plates of fruit that the monkeys loved. You will have plenty of opportunities for pictures/videos, but be quick! They are only interested in hanging with you when you have food.

Take advantage of the lockers they offer for your belongings ($5 US), and avoid any dangly jewelry or accessories. After the monkey experience, there is a small gift shop with reasonably priced souvenirs and bottled drinks ($2-4 US for water/soft drinks). They also offer photos of your trip, I think you got a package for $35 US or so. Also, note that the monkeys don’t do well with sudden sounds so kids who are likely to squeal or be scared should wait until they’re a little older so they can appreciate the experience. We had several kids in our group (ranging in age from 2-7) and they all did fine with parental help.

Overall, a fun and memorable half day trip from Puerta Plata.

We took a tour of Puerto Plata and visited Monkeyland. The tour guide was Delmis, who seemed to know everyone in the city. He called our group family and treated us like it. He was like your favorite uncle who lives life to the fullest. The driver was Miguel, who navigated the bus through narrow streets in a way that seemingly was impossible. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot about Dominican Republic. Highly recommend this tour.

Awesome time with Santonino and driver Antonio!
Monkeys were great ! Lots of time with them! So cute ! Drive through the town was interesting.
They had a demo and free tasting of coffee, hot chocolate, mama Juana wine /liquor drink that was actually yummy. And smelling their cocoa butter.
Don’t worry ! They sell all of it !! They take cards, Apple Pay and Google pay. They sell small locks for your locker to store your valuables, before you go into the monkey, for $5. They take pics with the monkeys and sell those as a digital package, but you have plenty of time to take your own, as well.
Ride back, we stopped at a flea market area for 15 mins, but we were so hot that we stayed on the bus.
They gave us cold bottles of water, going and coming back. Thanks ! ****We did this tour through Carnival cruise line. Bus was air conditioned and comfortable.

We took a shore excursion from Amber Cove to Monkeyland with Runners Adventures. Totally awesome experience if you love animals. Julio was our knowledgeable guide along the way and while touring the “typical house” and hearing about cocoa, coffee, and mamajuana production. He was articulate, enthusiastic, and full of information about Dominican Republic. Santo, our safari bus driver was also great. He was careful and very supportive, including making a stop and a run to recover one of the guest’s hats which flew off during the ride. And then there were the monkeys! Totally delightful creatures in a well-maintained “wild” enclosure. The monkey guide was outstanding. Obviously loves the monkeys and shared lots of information about them while creating a fun interactive experience for guests. Those little monkeys ran all over us! Eating fruit, vegetables, and seeds, they jumped from person to person, from railings and plants to bodies, scampering over our feet and onto our heads. Incredible experience! And, no stinky smells. Just an uplifting, amusing, and wonderful experience. I would do it again.

We LOVED it!!! Our driver (Runners Adventures, Santo) was great, the man hosting the tour (Runners Adventures, Julian) was very knowledgeable. We actually spend like 45 minutes with the monkeys! It wasn't a crap 10 minute ordeal like I expected. Super shady area so the sun wasn't beating down on us. We got to tour the house on property and they made and let us sample fresh coffee and chocolate!!! Highly recommend. They also were very gentle with the monkeys, knew them by name, area was very clean, the monkeys were very comfortable with the care takers and excited to see them!! Plus the bus driver provided us with fresh, cold, sealed water bottles!!
