Chemka Hot Springs is an oasis of geothermal warmth that bubbles up from underground. The pond can be very deep, in some places up to 10 meters, but the water is so clear that you can easily see the bottom of the pond. Regardless to its name, water in the hot springs is warm and quite refreshing and this is the one place where swimsuit is a must. We will provide you with a lunch box and a bottle of water. Eat your lunch in the shade of the trees or, if you’re a sun bunny, find a hot spot all your own. You’ve plenty of time to spot the wildlife that also enjoy the Chemka Hot Springs and return to Moshi refreshed, revitalized and relaxed after your amazing day tour at the hot spring. There is an optional cultural tour at Rundugai after swimming.

          Amazing time at Materuni
Augustino was a very kind gentleman who answered all my questions and was very polite during the whole trip. He knew answered to all of my questions. It was a very informative trip on how coffee is made but also with a brilliant view of the waterfalls too. The food offered was very nice. I had a very good time and I could recommend it to others who are looking to do something during the day.

Great tour for a first day in Tanzania
The guided waterfall hike and coffee tour was a great way to spend our first day in Tanzania. The views on the hike were beautiful, and the tour guide was very knowledgable and kept the perfect slow pace for us given our jetlag. The coffee tour was really interesting, more to meet the local people and see how they live. Was great to be able to support them by buying some delicious coffee and banana beer!

A wonderfully different cultural experience in the foothills of Kilimanjaro
This was the most amazing day trip! Gilly, a fabulously informed guide to the Chagga area. The visit to the Chagga village was great, made so special by the local women's storytelling. They prepared, roasted and ground my very own cup of Arabica coffee in front of me. One of the best coffee's I've ever drunk! The shop in the village had many local crafts for sale. I like buying locally. Lunch was out in the forest at a place called Kilema Paradise. And it certainly was! Wonderful lunch at a wonderful location finishing off a wonderful day.

Very interesting and beautiful tour to Marangu gate, Chagga village and Ndoro waterfall
I would recommend the Marangu day trip with KLM safaris! First, you go to the Marangu gate of Kilimanjaro National Park, which is fun to see and take some pictures! The guide also knew a hidden little valley nearby, which was very beautiful and had a little waterfall. Afterwards, we went to the Chagga village, which was very interesting and I learned a lot! Here, a tasteful lunch was provided as well. Finally, we walked through beautiful nature to the Ndoro waterfall, which was absolutely stunning. We were the only ones there, and the waterfall itself and the surrounding nature were amazing. As always, everything was well arranged and taken care of.

Excellent, early tour to stunning waterfall and fun coffee tour
I would recommend the Materuni waterfall and coffee tour with KLM Safaris! We left early and on time and we were the first to arrive at the waterfall so we had the whole place for ourselves! This was an amazing experience to enjoy the waterfall in all its calmness. Everything was well arranged. The guide is knowledgeable. The coffee tour afterwards is also a fun activity as they explain everything step by step, show it and even sing songs in the meantime. You also get to taste the coffee and have the opportunity to buy some coffee.

          aggressive village
Materuni is a very aggressive, unfriendly village. "Guides" follow you and harass you that you shall pay, or ... I turned back.

          Materuni EARLY Walking
We were two of us, car came for us at right time. We had nice walk with lot of information about tribes, materuni place, and whole tanzania, when we approached waterfalls, whole place was only for us, we take our time there and other groups starts coming when we were on our way back already. So GO EARLY! after walk back we stopped for coffee tour which was quite straightforward but also funny and right after that we moved for lunch (vegan) and rhat was amazing ...wirh polepole ride (on our demand) we came back home before 15:00 .. really nice day

The most beautiful days in Tanzania, thanks to KLM Safaris for everything
The trip was amazing and perfectly organized. From the moment we were picked up from the airport until the last day at the waterfall and the coffee farm, everything was perfect and suited me and my four and a half year old daughter. The trip was suitable for her ability and built exactly for our needs. The guide Emmanuel was charming and friendly and made sure we saw everything and that she could enjoy herself to the maximum. Special thanks to Gileard who took care of everything and organized a perfect and varied trip for us. warmly recommended, we can't wait to come back again for more Safari adventures with this great safari company!

          Fantastic personalised safari trip
Gileard was a great help in planning this trip from the UK to Tanzania and ensuring that everywhere we wanted to go was included. He was an excellent communicator and replied quickly to every question. Everything went smoothly for the whole trip as it was so well organised. For most of the trip we had the same driver/guide, called Elle. He was a great driver, which is almost the most important aspect of a tour like this on African roads. He was also knowledgable, patient and a great person to spend the time with. He was flexible with any changes that we wanted to make as we went along. We visited many national parks on our ten day safari. Of note were ; Tarangire National Park - Lots of elephants in this park. You have to be aware of tsetse flies. Ngorongoro Crater- This was outstanding. So many animals to see in a contained area. The crater itself is worth seeing. We stayed at the Rhino Lodge, which is highly reccomended. It gets cold in that area at night, and they even came around to light the fires in the lodges, which was extremely cosy. Serengeti National Park- You have to bear in mind that the Serengeti is vast, the size of a small country itself. As it is a plain, you have to be prepared to travel quite a few kilometers to see the animals. It is definitely worth doing though. We saw so many lions, completely close up too. We stayed at the Mawe tented camp. It was very comfortable and the staff were outstanding. Arusha National Park- this was very different as it is a walking tour, whereas most other parks you cannot get out of your vehicle. We saw giraffe and buffalo very close up. Lots of flamingo too. Onsea Guest House - this is highly reccomended as a restaurant for dinner. The food was outstanding, especially their signature menu, which is a taster menu consisting of many courses. The owner is a Belgian chef called Axel. Really friendly and we had a great evening, sitting outside with the magnificent view from their terrace. We would highly reccomend KLM Safaris as they went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable trip of a lifetime.

We met Gilly in Moshi and he responded quickly and professionally. He spent the day with us in the magnificent chemka hot springs and we had great conversations. He offers many other services and was great to have a contact for bringing us to the airport a few days later. Thanks to him everything in Zanzibar was also arranged and we had a worry free and enjoyable vacation. We highly recommend his services.

Great place to go as one of the first tourists return to Moshi which allow my and my son to swim alone on the Hot Springs before some Tanzanians arrived.

Our guide Elly was excellent on everything. Great and careful driver, excellent on explaining the culture, food, etc. He even introduced us to a local card game.

But the high was both the fish eating our skin and the excellent food from the local kitchen.

I just thought I would write this review after going to the hot springs to answer a few questions that I had about going there. First you should know that the water is not hot (it’s not too cold but definitely not like hot springs I’ve been to before which are more like a bath). There are fish which tickle you but once you start swimming they go away. There are no towels provided so bring your own and maybe something to lie on as there are only a few benches to sit on around the water and if it is busy then there are no seats (the ground is quite dusty to sit on). There are no showers/changing rooms so try to go ready to swim (there is a screen led area but it is very small). There are some toilets (typical African hole in the ground). Local food is available eg. Chicken and chips or rice and bbq meats. There is beer and soft drinks available. The water and surroundings are beautiful so it is definitely worth the trip (although maybe only a half day needed -depending how long you like to swim).

Thank you Thomas for your review about Chemka warm spring tour. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the tour, water and the surrounding. We would like to appreciate your recommendations for improvements, however, Chemka has been owned by local villagers and we have good news that recently the government has signed a contract with the local community to upgrade the environment at Chemka which will include infrastructure developments such as shower rooms, restaurant and other required facilities. We hope this project which is under Hai District Council will commence soon next year for better tourist experiences at Chemka. Welcome again for more similar or different experiences.
