About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- knowledgen7440 contributionsOnce in a lot of fe time experienceThank you to Kilisa Tours for a unique trekking experience and once-in-a-lifetime adventure, climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 m above sea level. From when we contacted Kilisa Tours and Safari, Naick was there for us, providing us with everything we needed to reach the summit- Uhuru. We used the seven-day Lemosho route, and Kilisa provided us with two Guides, a chef and twelve porters who carried our bags, tents and food. Considering the high altitude, the food was of a higher standard, a credit to the chef. I can not thank the Guides and the Porters enough for their support and encouragement and for making the trek safer and enjoyable. Despite the challenges, you feel immense accomplishment upon reaching the summit. If you are thinking of hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, I urge you to consider Kilisa Tours and Safari. By using Kilisa, you will help support the local economy, as your money enables the company to provide employment opportunities to the local people. With Kilisa, hakuna matata, no problem. Kilisa Tours and Safari always deliver, and they will help you achieve your dreams of climbing the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world.Written 23 September 2024
- DiminishdRtrn0 contributionsFriendly and experienced company, with locally based office and employees. This trip was a long time in the making and Naick/Kilisa Tours helped us to achieve this every step of the way. Kilisa seemed to be the most reasonably priced when we searched around but when we finally got onto the trek, we realised just how good the value was for our money. We had a team of 15 locals from the Kilimanjaro Region with us, including two experienced guides, Nickson and Livingstone. With their help we, as inexperienced but reasonably fit hikers, were able to reach the summit. The team could not have been more supportive. In the long buildup, Naick was very patient and helpful in emails and whatsapp messaging, allowing us the time and knowledge that we needed to organise our trip. We got a thorough briefing and help preparing our trekking gear/clothes, at the hotel, on the night before the trek. Each evening we had a briefing about the following day, before getting a wake up call in the morning from our attentive host, Zakayo - who accompanied us to the summit on the final day and will make for a great future guide. We were treated to fresh ginger tea daily, as well as other hot drinks and soup to keep warm and big portioned meals/snacks for energy. The porters in the team have great strength and heart. After we had stocked our smaller bags with the day's essentials, they would pack up the camp, including our remaining larger bags and move the whole camp to our next location - overtaking us on the way! At this point, as others have mentioned, paying for a private toilet for your group/self, to have as part of your camps, is well worth the money from the start. Our guides were more than mere pace setters, pointing the way forward, they were knowledgeable about the local region, flora and forna. They have vast experience of climbing Kilimanjaro from all the various routes. Also, importantly, they were very humble, friendly, supportive, just generally good humoured company, as well as making for decent photographers for our small group! The trek itself is manageable, as the guides will tell you, it is more of a mental test and taking things "pole pole" - slow and steady will get you to the top, while allowing you to enjoy the journey and some breathtaking views along the way! Finally to emphasise again, this is a locally based company with local employees. They provided our small group of three with a thoroughly enjoyable and unforgettable experience. I hope that spreading the word with this review, will go some way to repaying them for their hospitality and the fantastic memories which they have given to us.Written 22 September 2024
- Hamisi A0 contributionsUNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCEI had a wish of climb Mount Kilimanjaro since I was a teenager, And my dreams came into realty after I met with Kilisa Tours & Safaris. The reason why I decided to choose them is because they had a good patient to me, and after talking to Naick my tour operator & designer he quickly understood what I wanted and offered me an idea of took the Lemosho route. This is because the rate of reaching the summit is 95%, because of it’s longer itinerary which allows better acclimatization, just a good level of fitness is recommended. From the starting point Kilisa Tours & Safaris was responsive through my Email, Arrivals, Pick up until the next day I began my Kilimanjaro trek through Lemosho route. The journey was incredible and together with the team I had was friendly & supportive. Through them and their encouragement they helped me keep pushing forward to the summit. I am sincerely happy and to be honest Kilisa Tours & Safaris is a home of hospitality. If you’re considering climbing Mount Kilimanjaro I highly recommend you to contact Kilisa Tours and Safaris for better experience and unforgettable memories.Written 21 September 2024

- eurikah0 contributionsUnforgettable Kilimanjaro hiking experience with KilisaKilisa is a trustworthy local Kilimanjaro hiking agency. We communicated the tour with Naick in June, then later experienced many problems such as our flight was cancelled, postponed; other group mates couldn't arrive at Tanzania on time etc. But Kilisa still helped to make our tour happen. The staff Goodluck, Sirili, Amos and others all were very friendly and kind people, taking good care of me and my son along the whole trekking. The last day of trekking, when we arrived at their office late, my ears didn't work well maybe because the altitude descending, Naick helped me personally to call another local agency for the next day safari group tour and set up the good arrangement to save our time and effort (Kilisa didn't have safari group tour exactly the next day). He is really a nice guy worth to work with.Written 2 August 2024
- jassiew20240 contributionsIncredible ExperienceWe had the most incredible experience hiking Mount Kilimanjaro for eight days through Lemosho Route. Thanks to all the crew for making us achieve the summit and making us feel at home Everything was exceptional; from the moment we started the journey until the very end were amazing. The accommodation was fantastic. The guides Goodlucky, Abraham & Joseph were very knowledgeable, friendly and truly made the trip memorable. They helped us to believe in our ability and made our mindset believe it will be easy to achieve it. Their teamwork helps everything to be easier, boosting the journey in the middle of hardship by motivating us with songs gives us joy and relaxation, the word of hope was POLEPOLE help us remain stronger and enjoy the trekking despite the obstacles we meet in the journey we won it. Talking about the food and drinks the chef prepared, it was the best and gave us energy for hiking. We can’t thank you enough, but I highly recommend this local company for anyone looking for a memorable experience of hiking Mount Kilimanjaro.Written 29 July 2024
- David M0 contributionsHiked with a local companyWe would like to express our deepest gratitude and give the highest recommendation to Kilisa Tours & Safaris that help in organizing our Safari and Mount Kilimanjaro hiking for 10 days. Their service was exceptional, going above and beyond to ensure every aspect of the trip was perfect. The accommodation provided was comfortable and truly a home away from home. The food they served was not only delicious but also catered to various preferences, making every meal a delightful experience. The best surprise birthday party the team prepared for my friend was very amazing. We didn't expect it at that Mountain location, the food, drinks and gifts were so good. The team was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and made us feel so safe and supported throughout the journey. And let’s not forget about their well through-out itinerary, everyday was filled with exciting activities and breathtaking sights, making it a truly unforgettable experience. We can’t thank them enough for making our trip so incredible.Written 29 July 2024

Naick gave us all the information we need from the start, and was very flexible on the term and itinerary. We took Lemosho route, accompanied by a furaha (happy) team lead by Abraham. It was the support team that made our journey so memorable. They are professional, cheerful, diligent, and mostly helpful. We thank you Abraham and the guides, Josef and David, Kuruwa the cook, Sirili, Baltazar, Gideon, Robert, Charles, Harold, Immanuel, and the other support staffs.Written 17 July 2024

- Jackline M0 contributionsLIFETIME EXPERIENCEIt was amazing so far, Tanzania is so incredible I don’t know how to describe it, but all you need to do is power your phone or camera battery there so many things you need to capture. Thank you so much to the whole team of Kilisa Tour (guides ,chef ,porter and driver)who work hand in hand to give us such a best and amazing Safari tour with good service and care about our wellbeing I had so much fun in safari I saw many animal like Elephant, Lion, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest and Leopard I learn many thing about them, guide was very knowledgeable he explained about animal and why they behave the way they do. The itinerary was well planned from the day we arrived up to the day the tour ended. I got the opportunity to visit the local society (Maasai society) . I learn a lot about them, their songs and taste local food. They are very generous and welcoming. I got many presents back home like Maasai Shuka, coffee, and art painting. I will think of Tanzania every time I look at them. Thank you very much (Asante sana) for the Kilisa tour, they are a huge part of making my trip amazing.Written 15 April 2024
- karagend20240 contributionsBest Tour EverTackling Kilimanjaro can be daunting, Kilisa made it possible for us. Our guides, Abraham, Alfonse, and Bacarri were the best possible guides. When we'd think we couldn't make it, they made sure we did. I highly recommend this company. They may be small, but they are local. It is important to support local, start here.Written 10 February 2024
- vpcastillo0 contributionsFantastic experience with Pristine Trails climbing Mt. KilimanjaroThe trip was great from the beginning to the end. Good contact/advice prior to the trip made a big difference. I had all of the small but needed things prior to travelling to Tanzania. A rep from the company was there to pick me up and take me to the hotel and everything was on tap when i arrived. The briefing/equipment check out by the Lead Guide and his assistants set me up for the trip and also gave me some time that night to unwind and relax after a long day of travelling. The climb, from the beginning to the end was professionally done. The guides were awesome (Kim and his crew), the tents were always set up and could withstand the wind that we encountered. The food was well prepared and noone went hungry. The support by the guides and porters was spot on and their never ending assistance in assisting us in getting to the summit was greatly appreciated. They were coaches, supporters and always aware of our excitement and physical condition so we could do the most important thing in hiking, talking about it after we're off the mountain. If i were to ever go to Tanzania again, I would do my excursion through Pristine Trails and if anyone I know wanted to embark on such an adventure I would recommend they go with Pristine Trails. I truly got my money's worth and ticked Mt. Kilimanjaro off of my bucket list and came back to talk about it.Written 2 February 2024
- D8768VQhb0 contributionsFun and adventurous!I successfully climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro on December 12, 2023. I knew it would be a tough climb, so Naick Msemo from Kilisa Tours made sure I was accompanied by a reliable support team to accomplish my goal. Before the trek started, my guide Goodluck Mwanga made sure I had all the right gear I needed. Goodluck kept me well informed throughout, kept me motivated and kept me mentally prepared. All the other members of our trekking team including cook and porters made sure my climb was a successful climb by preparing delicious meals on time and by providing all the support and help I needed. The climb itself was a challenge but with the team I had on my side, it felt less daunting. Overall, it was a fun and challenging climb which I will remember for rest of my life. Naick Msemo is very helpful and down to earth. He kept me well informed before and throughout my trip. His responses to all the queries I had were prompt and honest. If you are someone who is looking for a successful climb while having the time of your life, I definitely recommend Kilisa Tours.Written 20 December 2023
- Bakari A0 contributionsBest in planning and helping out when in doubtI contacted Naick in 2020 while planning a safari that fell through due to covid. I’m glad that I came back to them in 2022 and the services was a Top Notch and best believe I wrote a review back then about the best service provided as I am writing another one right now because they didn’t miss the mark even on this tour And my primary reason for visiting Tanzania this time was to trek up Kilimanjaro, having done visiting the Serengeti and ngorongoro with Kilisa last year. Naick was his usual best in planning and scheduling the trek perfectly as he was flexible during the planning stage, responsive to our questions and concerns. And this time with a group of 5 people. Eventually we made it – pick up and transfer was made the hotel picked Parkview was amazing and so were the staff Through the email exchange, we took Naick’s recommendation and did Machame trail and it worked on our favor when we did the trek because we both made it to the summit A professional and committed guide, they understood our physical limits, setting doable speeds with enough rest breaks. It is very clear that we would not have made it to Freedom Peak without their support The Whole Kilisa Team From the office to the mountain crew that includes the guides, chef and porters – I would say they are service minded. Not only do they deliver 110% as promised. They also go the extra mile to make their clients feel safe and comfortable. This was an awesome trip and I am happy to recommend Kilisa to everyone here wondering what to pick for their Tanzania adventure as I had already recommended it to some of my friend and colleaguesWritten 19 November 2023

This was the best experience I have ever had in Africa. The Safari was amazing. Our guide "Chris" was knowledgeable, personable, and was able to get us to all the animals on the safari. When you take this safari ask for Chris. You will be amazed by him.

Amazing bucket list vacation with an amazing company. We went on an 6 day safari with guide Chris. Saw every animal, stayed in great accommodations, ate wonderful food and had the time of our lives. Could not recommend Kilisa's safari more.
Following our safari, we embarked upon a Kilimanjaro trek along the 7 day Lemosho route with guides Rama and Bacari and crew. Everyone was so FRIENDLY and catered to our every need (lots of needs at 15k+ feet). We successfully summited and don't think we would have without the Kilisa team looking after us.
Unforgettable trip that really lifted our spirits after no traveling due to global pandemic. Everyone in Tanzania is kind, warm and welcoming. The team at Kilisa is no exception. Please consider Kilisa and guides Chris, Rama and Bacari on your safari and trek!

I was in Tanzania for almost a month and went through Kilisa to arrange my activities on the mainland. This was a last-minute trip, and I contacted several tour companies with basic questions. Naick at Kilisa was the most responsive addressing my questions in a prompt manner. Kilisa's rates are competitive and they use quality equipment. I spent several days based in Moshi during this time. Nickson picked me up from the airport, and was my guide for day trip to the Materuni Waterfalls. He was very knowledgeable about the plant life, and the area. He's very accommodating.
When I had a needed to buy a shaver and had a question about a flight to Zanzibar, he took me to a mall, and also to the airline's office in town. I also booked a 5-day safari with Kilisa. Chris was my guide and was great in finding animals and catered the trip to animals and attractions that I was interested. He answered all my questions about animals, history, & Tanzanian culture. It was just Chris & I for the safari, which involves a lot of driving, so glad that we got along well. The time went by really fast. Chris also made sure everything went smoothly with the hot air balloon ride company (add-on activity to the safari). The Land Cruisers they use are well-maintained, and very capable of handling rough terrain. The canopy lifts up giving you a panoramic view of the wildlife. The vehicle is equipped with USB chargers and Chris had a pair of binoculars. No AC, but you don't really need it as you are constantly opening the windows for photos anyways. The lodge selection for the safari was very good. I stayed at Marera Valley Lodge & Embalakai Authentic Camp. (also stayed at The Panama Garden & Parkview Inn in Moshi). Lunch on the safari was prepared by the lodges and fancier than I was expecting. We'd find a picnic table each day, lay out a tablecloth and enjoy rice/pasta with an entrée. Kilisa provides water, coffee & tea for the trip. Kilisa has a safari packing list and FAQ on their website. For camera gear, a telephoto lens (more than 300mm) gives the most flexibility for capturing wildlife, but I used my phone quite a bit as well. I wish I had brought a tripod or bean bag to rest the camera on. I was expecting the top of the vehicle to be flat when canopy is raised, but it's actually slightly curved. It also gets dusty inside the vehicle so bring something to wipe your lenses with. If you have luggage that you don't need for the safari, you can leave it at the hotel in Moshi.
I also booked a Kilimanjaro Trek though Kilisa with the intention of joining a group going the week I wanted to go, but one person got sick the day before, so they cancelled. Naick gave me the option of doing the trek on my own (supported by a full team), or joining a trek with another company (there weren't many tourists in Tanzania when I went due to COVID & climbing season just started). I went with the 2nd option and was glad Naick was able to find another high-quality company for me to complete the trek with.
In summary, Kilisa offers good value for the tours they offer (competitive rates, high-quality experience). Being able to make all your arrangements through one company simplifies trip planning. I really enjoyed my time in Tanzania and much of that can be attributed to working with Kilisa. I would recommend them to others.

Dec 2018 • Friends
When we graduated my Beasties and I spent a considerable amount of time reviewing different companies, we found a lot of companies with great’s reviews as we went through trip advisor and other sources to look for the best tour agency who will organize perfect trip for us but then we finally decided to go for Kilisa Tours & Safaris. It was funny but really this was the right choice we made.
The planning stage went very well with Naick “the owner of the company” being very responsive to all questions and clear emails on time and professionally. Then, we decided to go with 8 days Lemosho route & 5 days Safari
Everything was great when we landed as they took care of everything and we didn't have to worry about transportation, Accommodations and Meals once in Tanzania
And during the hike we were set up by amazing guides, porters and cook. team work of Mountain crews helped us success summit Kilimanjaro
After a long climb we went to Safari 5 days at Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngoro Ngoro. Every experience was just incredible
I must admit that this was great adventure for our life and all credit goes to Kilisa Team for Making all that possible
I can't say well enough about this but If you're looking forward for Mt. Kilimanjaro Climbing or Go on a Safari, I and on behalf of my friends I highly recommend Kilisa Tours & Safari to everyone and we're definitely coming back at some point.
