About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Zena360 contributionsFabulous ATVWhat an amazing ATV tour ! This was great fun and you weren’t pressured to race with the other buggies. If you like quad biking you’ll love this.Written 13 September 2024
- srickman110 contributionsBeautiful Cave!We really enjoyed this tour. Bo (for short?) was our tour guide and he was excellent. There is a 30-40 minutes ride in the Super Jeep followed by a short walk to the cave entrance. The walk to the cave was not difficult at all. Getting into the cave was a neat experience and also wasn't difficult. I was worried about pulling myself up a rope (not much upper body strength) but the ice makes it pretty easy. Make sure you wear rain pains/jacket as it is wet in the cave. We brought gloves, but didn't use them-it wasn't that cold in the cave. The ice formations were beautiful and much better than the other lava tunnels that we visited. The colors on the walls were very bright and colorful and the ceiling twinkled like stars from beginning ice formations. Absolutely wonderful! We had a great time and would easily do this tour again.Written 24 August 2024
- 129laurencev0 contributionsGreat thanks to Alejandro and not be missedUnique exploration into iced cave with Alejandro. Very insightful explanation, incredible stalagmite views in un expected area, sufficiently challenging to get down to it, without being too difficult for anyone curious to see this amazing chamber of ice ! Plenty of tips during the tour, you cannot miss it if you are in Iceland !Written 10 August 2024
- andreadA8684RX0 contributionsA must do according to my teen daughterWe had an amazing time with Bo! My teen daughter puts this at one the best things we have done during our 2 week trip around Iceland ( And we did the whole circuit including the West Fjords) This should be in the list of must do for people who want a little adventure and a unique experience!Written 9 July 2024
- jeroenv820 contributionsGeo Travel (& Mýflug Air)We had a very pleasant experience with Geo Travel. During our visit to Myvatn we were supposed to do an UTV tour. However, due to unforeseen bad weather(even for Iceland) standards the tour wasn’t possible. Luckily the company provided us with a very good alternative, in the form of a flight with Mýflug Air over the lake and all the (pseudo) craters and surroundings in a Cessna. Very good problem solving at short notice. Flying with Mýflug Air in itself is a very good activity to do if you want to see the extend and beauty of the Vulcanic landscape in the vicinity of lake Myvatn. So in a sense this is also a compliment to Mýflug Air for making that experience possible. And a tip!Written 17 June 2024
- JanAndJulia0 contributionsGep Travel is top!We did several trips with Geo Travel, they have many good tours to offer. Tourguides were very friendly and professional with a lot of local knowledge. We felt very comfortable and trips were very well organized. When you come to Northern Iceland we recommend Geo Travel tours.Written 3 February 2024

A definite addition to your families trip to Northern Iceland!Written 7 September 2023
- timonk1740 contributionsAmazing experienceThe ride was very fun! We were able to ride through many different landscapes and experience them from a different perspective than just by car. The route was on private area. The guide was very nice and seemed to know a lot about the Icelandic landscape and its history.Written 4 September 2023
- I5378ODchristianv0 contributionsBest tour experience I’ve hadWe had a fantastic guided route through the Lofthellir ice cave today, getting to see amazing ice sculptures that are hundreds of years old! Our guide Steingrímur was just great, he knew all the details, was super clear and safe and also made sure we were having a good time all along. 100% would recommend. PS: you can find bookings for such tours a bit everywhere online but these guys are the OG ones and have the best offer imoWritten 29 June 2023

We were the first people allowed in Askya for ten days due to the weather and Anton our guide was absolutely amazing all through the day. His knowledge and stories kept everyone in the group entertained throughout the long journey and the stops we made along the way were fantastic. The journey wasn't one to be made without route knowledge due to the conditions, but Anton made everyone feel that they were in safe hands. It is a trip of a lifetime, worth every penny and something we will never experience again 🏔️

We took a great tour during September when most tourists had left. The jeep is comfy and our guide had been just great. Told us many stories about landscape and people, a great personal touch. Will forever remember this tour. Worth the money!

This trip was epic. The area had been closed for 10 days and we were the first ones back and the only ones back .100 km of dirt track each way with black mountains and lava fields on all sides.Snow was deep in places and the superjeep had to force a path through. The group was made up of British, French Dutch and Icelandic and conversations was good.Anton is the perfect guide and a top man.He is witty and very knowledgeable plus he is a very skilled professional with tons of local knowledge and first hand experience of navigating difficult terrain in the Highlands. The trip is long but not dull. The landscape is powerful and absorbing with stops along the way to get glacial water and see an outlaws hideout plus toilets. The hike to Askja was through deep snow so hard going but that was fine and everyone made it and it added to the sense of exploration. The caldera, lake and Viti are very impressive and their size is hard to comprehend. The trip back along the 100km dirt track was a little easier as the path had been forged on the way up however as darkness fell another dimension was added.I would definitely recommend Anton's company and think he is the perfect guide. He showed high levels of skill and professionalism throughout the day and was also down to earth , pragmatic , conscientious and a real good laugh. He has the right balance and I feel fortunate to have met him and share a great 14 hours with the group .👍👊

I would recommend everyone to do such a tour to the highlands. It is really beautiful and you don't want to miss it. However, there were a few things that were a bit disappointing.
The guide that was supposed to take us made a mistake in his work schedule and did not show up. Another colleague was therefore called at the last minute to fill in for him. The result was that we took off 40 minutes late. He apologized and of course it’s not the fault of the substitute and things like this can happen, but with such a big delay I would’ve expected a little compensation just as a courtesy, like a 10% discount or sth else. Just a small gesture.
Also the guide was continuously calling other people in the car. He excused himself but then continued doing more phone calls. He said it was because he needed to cancel a few things because his day took a turn, but it were numerous phone calls during the day. I just thought that was a bit odd.
With the last stop he also didn’t say anything about the place. It felt a bit rushed because our day obviously ended a little bit more late than supposed to.
Don’t get me wrong it was a beautiful day. The sun was out, it had snowed 2 days prior, so the landscape looked amazing. The guide was friendly and had nice stories and it was a lovely small group. It was just considering the high price (almost €400 pp - no lunch included) we expect things to be a little more perfect. At least that was our opinion.

Dear Ikevka.
I want to thank you for your honest review.
My name is Anton Freyr I am the owner & head guide of Geo Travel. I was your guide on that day to Askja Caldera. I want to start of by saying that after reading your review think you criticism is fair. On that morning our team made a mistake in the work schedule resulting in the fact that no one came to pickup that morning. Once I got the call, I simply rushed out the door to do my best to make the tour happen. As my workday was set, I had continuous phone calls coming inn all day cancelling other things that where planned. I did not realise it was to that extent that it hurt the overall feeling of the tour, and I am sorry for that. I admit that hopping on the tour with such a short notice set me in a difficult situation, I thought I did not rush the day but obviously that was not the case, We really don't want anyone to feel rushed in our tours. At Geo Travel we pride ourself in quality and make it our mission to alway's exceed expectations on our tours. it is clear that on this day we did not to that. I will contact everyone that where on the tour to make a compensation/refund as you suggested as well as an invoice for a free tour from our catalog of tour for the next visit to Iceland.
Kind regards from the Geo Travel Team

This was an incredible and epic day. It's hard to give it a perfect score though. Here's some constructive feedback:
* The total lack of snacks/water provided to the customers was offputting. There was also not too much instruction around how to procure lunches. We arrived at our lodgings at 8pm the day before our tour and were stressing out about how to make this happen. Luckily, our hotel packed some up for us, otherwise I'm not sure what we would have done. This could have been smoother.
* There is quite a lot of driving on the tour. Our tour guide, while excellent and friendly and knowledgeable, never put on any music. - or suggested it. There were long periods of driving that were quite exhausting with only the silence. Scenery was quite stunning though.
* There were a few occasions where we had come back to the car, really cold, took off all our gear to relax, only to get out of the car within 20 minutes. It was tough to know when to relax and potentially doze off, and when to be ready for another stop. Better communication around what was actually happening from a logistics perspective would have been valued.
I hope these constructive feedbacks don't discourage anyone from going. This was a very rare type of excursion, and I have only great things to say about the experience itself. If you're into Iceland Adventure type excursions, this will not disappoint.

Be sure you get Hannes as your guide. He is knowledgeable, amicable, and truly professional as a guide. He knows the area inside and out. We thought about driving to Askja on our own. But the insight that Hannes provided was far more valuable than the tires we would have saved!

This was an amazing day with Anyone as our guide. We could not have asked for a more dedicated och knowledgeable guide and the day was so much more than we could have asked for.
Amazing scenery, great history about the country and landscape and fun super jeep touring.
I definitely recommend Geo Travel to everyone visiting Iceland!

Excellent trip with very experienced guide.
Guides are also rangers in the natural park so they can show you all the best spots. Tour is very flexible, extra stop to have the perfect picture are no problem.
Guide Anton explains everything on the mountains but also on the life in Iceland, the history, the life during winter...
We are part of a group of 10, so trip was very interactive and informal. Ride in the superjeep is very comfortable and exciting.
Very recommandable!
Thank you Anton, we'll come back!

Very good guide, had answers to all questions - even why roads are never straight and flat at the same time. Was very helpful and flexible. Could not resist taking a small detour to show us some extra. Also loved to play with floating stones as did our children.
Highly recommended.
