A great day - very worthwhile experience
I don’t normally do tours as I prefer to travel independently. However it would be almost impossible to visit wineries in Cape Town this way. So we did the Red Bus Citysightseeing three wineries tour. Our guide, Charles, and driver Division, were fabulous. Very knowledgeable but without being over the top. The wineries were set in stunning locations. Absolutely beautiful. And each venue was itself top class. We had more than enough wine. More than three wineries in a day would be too much so I would avoid some of the tours which do more. We saw some stunning countryside on the way there and back. We thought this was actually good value for money.

          Fraudulent description
The his company is a total ripoff. We were charged $191.26. The only thing this company did was pay for the ferry tickets which are about $30 each and provided transportation to and from our hotel which was $20 round trip. The entire tour is run by robben island and former prisoners. I am so angry about this. I tried to dispute the payment with PayPal but was denied. Just purchase your own tickets and get an Uber

A well organised and wonderful tour
The ferry was comfortable and extremely well organised and when we arrived on the island found our way to a waiting bus. The tour guide was informative and we enjoyed being able to explore the island this way, but also getting off to enjoy the views across the water to Cape Town. When we joined the walking tour, our guide was fantastic - an ex-prisoner himself with so many stories to tell, all from the heart. He had all the time in the world to answer the many questions fired his way, and answered them with dignity and humour. I won't ever forget this - Mandela's cell and garden, learning about the cruelty the prisoners had, the life there and the living conditions. Highly recommend.

          Do Not Use This Company!
I paid $88.98usd per person for 4 people. We were notified that we could not receive transportation to or from our hotel to the ferry. So, we had to find our own way to the station! The ferry ticket and tour is R600, which equals about $34usd. The person from this company met us at the ferry station and gave us our tickets which we could of purchased from the station ourselves. No one from this company accompanied us on, nor did any part of the tour. You are paying for transportation and ferry/ tour ticket. Rhis company only does the transportation portion in which we did not receive! They made a $54 profit per person for just giving us tickets at the station. No refund or compensation was given. I truly feel that this company is a scam for charging my family $216 for transportation we did not receive! However, the tour is worth booking which can be done for $34usd at the V & A waterfront Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island. The experience was priceless and the information given was heart wrenching and gave me a new life changing perspective/ outlook on life as a Black African American woman.

          A must visit in Capetown.
Heart wrenching but necessary review of the purpose, prisoners, and history of Robben Island. Both bus and site guides were excellent.

          Expensive??
I sent this message privately and got no response? We very much enjoyed our trip to Robben Island. However I do wonder if there has been a mistake with the pricing? On your website at the moment the price is £106 for 2 people and we were charged £142? Even more surprising is that do it locally the price would be 1200 Rand and approx 66 Rand for an Uber? At today’s exchange rate this works out at £72 - half of what we paid to Booking.com? I’ve always been very happy with the service and support with Booking.com but this seems excessively overpriced? Appreciate your comments. Elaine

          Not the best value
So everyone is aware you can get tickets directly from the Robben Museum website for $30. You are paying more than three times to cost for the convenience of them picking you up. You can decide if that is worth it to you.

          AWESOME HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE
This is history that must be seen / and heard. Pretty cool that the tour is lead by a former prisoner of the island. The goosebumps you get passing by the cell in which Mandela served in! Everything was a bit rushed though (Guess we were falling behind in time) and I don't think the pricing was fair at all but overall a really good experience.

A must see, but take a jacket
The windiest place on this earth!!!! Arriving at the Robben Island Ferry departure we were ushered in after a full security check (ID & scanners) . Tan a 40 minute wait to board- if it’s a hot day make sure you have water as the lines are quiet long & no aircon in the building. The ferry ride over quiet smooth however on the way back very rough & bumpy. We were on the last tour for the day so not too sure how the seas would be in the mornings. A very informative & well run tour gave you first hand information on how isolated it is & would have been if you were serving time there.

Interesting tour, but some what disappointing.
We were picked up promptly from our hotel and the driver was very helpful and polite. This was the same when we came back, but it did add around £30 on top of the trip ticket price if we’d bought them direct, and it didn’t give us any advantages. I was also disappointed with the tour itself. The boat trip was ok, but then we were on a large bus and driven round for a while with a guide, who explained a bit about the history & about a few of the buildings we passed. The experience then focused on B&C blocks where the political prisoners had been held. We then had a guide who was an ex prisoner. The tour was slow and being in such a large group it was often protracted. It was interesting, but I didn’t feel it was well organised or that the information was as comprehensive as it could have been.

          Very disappointing
This was an incredibly disappointing trip we had booked and were really looking forward to what we hoped would be a somewhat emotional and meaningful experience. The island itself is extremely run down as are the buses that take you round. We were shown round by an ex inmate whose talk was so slow and self relating ,and very little mention was made of Nelson Mandela. We spent very little real time in the prison itself and then were herded onto a bus again and driven to the stone mine and then a tour of the staff village. The return boat was about 45 minutes late. All in all we wish that we hadn't wasted the day. Felt it was all a money making exercise and one wonders where the money is being spent.

          A tourist trap !
After a 50’ boat ride you are immediately requested to board an old bus, in which you will sit there for more than an hour for a useless tour of the island. This set up is just an excuse to manage the crowd that comes onto the island with different boats and give enough time to every group to visit by turn the jail which is shown at the end of the tour. The only part of interest, really. In our case, our guide made in front of our group an introductory speech, paralleling apartheid in South Africa with the sufferings of the people of Palestine, and how Israel created an apartheid-like regime in their land ! Thus expressing the well-known public position of his government… I could not hold myself saying out loud that this is out of purpose, controversial and unnecessary. I also insisted that some people in the bus may not share his views and came – and paid - to visit the island for totally different reasons. I also mentioned that the fact he has been in this jail as a political prisoner does not give him the authority to make a geopolitical broadcast on Israel situation in this bus. As many people on the bus approved my views, I also stated that some of us disagree with his statements and that we would rather stay focused on the subject matter of Robben Island Prison. Then the guide pretended that he could not do his job after my statements, and asked me to leave the bus with my family and sit into another bus ! His supervisor joined the bus and supported his request. I categorically refused it and repeated that we would be fine as long as the guide talks about apartheid and the history of the prison, not Palestine and Israel. He still asked the rest of the bus whether they wanted us out, and everybody shouted “no!’ and asked him to go on with his historical talk on the prison. At the end, the guy asked for money to contribute to his living expenses, pretending he was short of resources ! After checking, these guides have been given permanent jobs from the government as apartheid veterans, which is fine, but I found pretty miserable for this guy to beg for extra money when many of his compatriots did not have the same treatment from his government. I strongly recommend to avoid this visit , which is obviously used by some as an instrument for unacceptable propaganda which is a pity , as it weakens the case they are supposed to make against the terrible apartheid regime. For the record I am not from Israel, neither Jewish nor Muslim…

Poor refund service from Robben Island Museum Tours
Robben Island is well worth a visit. But I booked and paid for this trip through the Robben Island Museum itself as I only wanted a 4 hour round trip for me and my grandson from the UK . At the last moment I received an email from Robben Island Museum that the trip was cancelled due to technical problems with the boat. I immediately applied for a refund ( tour was booked for 15/2/24) and I’m still awaiting a refund! Or at least an acknowledgment to my several emails and phone calls. Poor service!

          Robben Island Fail
Disappointed. We booked this trip 6 weeks ago knowing we would only be in Cape Town for a few days and were really looking forward to going to Robben Island. Having chased for a pick up time (which was going to be around 8am) we were advised around 6pm the night before that the trip was being cancelled. This meant it was too late to arrange an alternative supplier (and we tried!) meaning we missed out on something which would have been a highlight of our trip. At least we got a full refund.
